COLD Weather Kayak Fishing for BASS: One Last Jig BITE!
Join me, SLBASSIN, for anorher kayak fishing adventure on one of my favorite rivers in Illinois-the Des Plaines River!
As water temps plummet and the chill sets in, we hit the water for some last-minute bass action before the season wraps up. Targeting both smallmouth and largemouth bass on the Native Slayer Max 10, we focused on shallow pockets, flipping jigs for a productive day. The Greecrack Spiron Twin and OSP DoLive Beaver were the go-to lures that made the difference. This could be my final upload until March 2025 - don’t miss out!

This is the BEST Springtime SPINNERBAIT for BASS!

Hey there...I'm Marco/SLBASSIN. Once again we fished out of our Native Slayer Max 10 Propel in search of some largemouth bass. Conditions were windy, and cold, perfect for Spinnerbait fishing! We ended up catching 10 largemouth bass, where most were caught on the Spinnerbait, and a few on a Beast Coast Fishing flipping Jig. The best Spinnerbait is hands down the Deps B-Customs Spinnerbait...a b...
Spinnerbait FISHING in the Wind | Springtime KAYAK BASS Fishing!

Hey there...I'm Marco/SLBASSIN. We fished one of 10 lakes here in northern Illinois targeting some pre-spawn largemouth bass. We ended the day with 10 fish, and water temperatures are rising, which means the bass are starting to move up shallow. The primary bait that I used to catch lagemouth bass was the Megabass SV-3 Spinnerbait. Since the conditions were windy, we targeted pockets holding ba...

Appreciate the view!
I had great success this year with the gee crack spiron twin with the dip n glow , along with the beast coast fishing jig in true gill color
That's awesome! That's my go to flipping set up for sure. Glad it's working for you.
Amazing video man! How is your camera on the front rigged up?
Hi Tyler! I follow you and enjoy your content man. I use a DJI Pocket 3, and run it off an external battery. It's mounted on a yakattack GoPro mount using a quick connect mount. The P3 is small but versatile and has great image quality for its size. Hope that helps!
Cool vid! You’re killing me with how little line you have out when you bring the fish in lol.
Ha, no idea why I kept doing that but you're right. Appreciate the view!
Great video and edits! Hopefully spring comes fast!
Appreciate that! Yeah, the waiting while spring comes and the ice melts is the worst part of kayak fishing lol.
Where is your launch point on the des plaines?
I'm all over - By Isle La Cache, Route 66, Lemont, Colombia Woods, etc. The DPR has some really good fishing and launching is a breeze since there are so many launch points.
@ cool man thanks. Keep the videos coming!
@DSwi67 You bet. Thanks for watching!
Also, another thumbs up for the JDM eye candy!
Appreciate that! I've been getting into JDM tackle the last couple of years. Definitely a lot of innovation and quality from the Japanese market.
Interesting to see you using a Dobyns Sierra series to jig/ slack line presentations because I used that series for chatterbaits since overall the Sierra series is known for being softer/ parabolic. Good video though man
You got it! The Sierra series is great for a variety of techniques.
Loving the videos - first time I’ve seen someone in my area with quality content on YT. Let’s hit the water sometime 🍻
Appreciate that, man! Hit me up and let's go! Where are you located?
Winter time in the Midwest is always a grind! Nice video!!
It's a grind for sure. Thanks for watching!
Great video bro! Its funny, out local bass tackle shop, just brought in some of those bass puzzles. Ill have to check them out.
Appreciate it! They also just released the Grass Piece Flex, which will dive a little deeper. Can't wait to fish them in the spring.
I think I saw you today at the river lol
Cool! Were you wading/fly fishing?
@ na I was on the kayak I was leaving when you guys pulled up
@lunamane1 Nice, blue Tacoma, right? Great color. How'd you do?
Good video man!
I appreciate that and thanks for watching!
Hmmmmm interesting! Still waiting for the turnover here in Texas
It's been surprisingly warm here in Illinois. Hopefully I can get on a good bite this weekend.
New sub, great content man. What part of Illinois you from?
Thanks for the sub! I'm in Des Plaines, IL. The Des Plaines River is one of my favorite fisheries here.
@@slbassin awesome bro I’m in north Chicago / Waukegan area so not too far off.
In minnasota the turn over already happened and there deep how has it not happened in Illinois yet or do you not know
Interesting...the weather has been warm though and it's been a nice October so far. I typically don't stop fishing out of the kayak until the 1st or 2nd week of December so we'll see how that goes this year. Thanks for watching!
@@slbassin yah same for here the nights are just cold
Not sure which part of the des plains you fish but ot sure looks good. Going to have to try it out sometime. Thanks for the great videos
Thanks for the view! I'm all over the DPR. I typically fish in Lemont, Willsprings, and Romeoville.
@@slbassin very nice definitely will check it out. Do you mind sharing that lake you just fished. Looks like a kayak fishing dream lol
I'll give you a hint. Look up Braidwood lake via Google Earth. You'll see a bunch of surrounding lakes. All of them produce good fish so you'll see me essentially fish them all. Happy fishing!
@@slbassin thanks so much. Much appreciated
Great video......looks like a beautiful lake. I'm from northern Illinois also and love to kayak fish. Keep it up, see you on a lake someday
Right on man. I appreciate the view!
Heck yeah, bro! Great content. I had to look up and bought a few of those beastcoast jigs, im trying out the hustler jigs.
Awesome man! Yeah, they've been my go to jigs for the past year and are rock solid. Appreciate the view!
You're the reason that I'm going to buy a kayak. Can you make a video of your rig?
I've been meaning to do that so I'll definitely post that with the next week or two. Thanks for watching!
I’ll have a video soon if my pelican catch 100 just got it! My first one so will put good beginner vids
My friend got one as well and he liked it. He did just upgrade to a peddle drive kayak though but the Catch 100 is solid.
@@slbassin I just had my first day where the wind blew me across the lake lol. I’m definitely gonna upgrade soon
@MIKEYfishing229 Ha, yes. The joy of kayak fishing in the wind :)
Dude!!! Great day on the water… gotta love making it into the video at the very end there!
Thanks for watching man!
Now I want to start fishing. Great video
You should! And if you can, try fishing out of a kayak as it will open up so many possibilities for you. Thanks for watching.
Awesome work man. Just subscribed to your channel for future vids. Best of luck out there and tight lines
Thanks for the sub!
I got some of the 6" Slumlords. Have yet to catch one on it, though. Let me know if you find some success with it.
Nothing yet but man is the action so good on the WCZ Citizen baits. I need to start fishing swimbaits more consistently.
I actually started this video thinking "I wonder what SL stands for..." hahaha
Love me some smallies and largies!
Watching some of your videos today and I think you and I have some of the same rods haha. Try the Striker Ice Stealth gloves. Fairly thin, but very warm. The other hack is to get a box of latex/nitrile gloves and wear a pair of those under your warm gloves.
Nice tips! I'll try that out this winter.
Keep fishing IL water and I'll keep watching. New sub
Appreciate it and for sure man! Can't wait to get out there this weekend. I'm thinking the Fox River for some smallies.
Nice catch man. 🎣🎣🎣🎣 #keepemtight_fishing
Appreciate it, thanks for watching!
@slbassin no problem. I like learning new techniques for bass fishing. You seem to be pretty good at it. I'm still learning a lot, so yeah. Good to have good videos to grab a few tips and tricks off of. I subscribed as well. @keepemtight_fishing 🎣🎣🎣🎣 tight lines.
Biggin’ Great job 👍🏻 🎣
Thanks 👍
This was actually a pretty good video.
Thanks, man! I appreciate it.
Love the content, keep it up man! Where do you typically launch from?
I appreciate it! I'm all over the place at the DPR. I'm usually launching at Isle La Cache, Lemont and the Burridge area. Thanks for watching.
New sub... diggin the content my man! Looking forward to watching more!
Appreciate the view, and support. Thanks for watching!
Hey bud! You officially made a guest appearance in my latest TH-cam video...right at the end 😊
@@slbassin I’ll check it out
Healthy looking large mouth, never would have thought it came from the des plaines river
I enjoy this river a lot. I pulled nearly a 6lb (new PB for me) just a few weeks back. The largemouth population is pretty healthy there. Thanks for watching!
How do you fish that jig? You dragging it on bottom or just popping it?
I primarily pop it. The water levels aren't too deep but I can usually feel the jig bouncing against cover. This is why I like the Beastcoast Fishing Battle Jig; it was a thick weed guard. Thanks for watching!
Some beautiful fish caught. Love the slow-mo footage of them. Great video! Really enjoyed this one. 🎣
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching.
Great fish! I’d you don’t mind me asking watch stretch of the des plains do you fish? I fish the area between Romeoville and Lockport all the time. Bunch of small mouths I’ve only caught a couple large mouths in there.
It sounds like we're fishing the same stretch of river. That's a good area for smallies. Try launching by Columbia Woods or the Lemont area for some largemouth.
What part of DP River is this? I’d like to launch there too please
Which part of the dpr is this at?
This is near the Lemont area.
Looks like a great spot to fish. Awesome video. Just Subbed 😎
I appreciate the sub, and thanks for watching!
Great video! Editing and audio along with enjoyable content! I’ll be subscribing for sure!
I appreciate that! I shoot at the highest resolution possible and like to color grade my footage/tweak audio settings.
@@slbassin I have not gotten into color grading yet. I did just pick up a Rode Wireless Mic. I have it used in the cooking portion of an upcoming video. Kind of a test. Ill have to take it out fishing next. Not sure how the battery life is though!
A day fishing is always a good day... Nice video
That's right! A day of fishing is always a good thing.
Have to try these lures out! Just waiting on my order now.
Awesome! Which one's did you pick up? The Spirit Twin is probably my favorite one...the action is so good.
What's your favorite flipping bait?
What's your go-to spinnerbait?
Awesome video man! Your edits are on point. There’s channels way bigger than yours with lower quality which says a lot. New sub from Oklahoma!
I appreciate that! I'm trying...it's tough to crack the TH-cam algorithm right now but it's been fun pushing out videos. We'll see how long I do that. Thanks for watching.
Would you say that the Deps spinnerbaits are better than the Megabits sv-3's?
I do fish the Megabass SV-3s a lot as well. I like the double willow versions but yes, I think the Deps B-Custom is the better spinnerbait. It falls horizontally, swims very straight, and has a better hook. I like the vibration better as well but the SV's are in my top 3 spinnerbaits for sure. Thanks for watching!
Nice video, brother 🤙🏾
I appreciate that man! Thanks for watching.
@@slbassin Yw
what pond is this located at?
It's one of several lakes over at Mazonia. They all honestly hold good fish but you just need to find them.
What cameras are you running?
I'm running DJI cameras. I run 2 Action 4's and one Pocket 3. I've got them all dialed in pretty well at this point with settings that I think get me the best picture quality. Thanks for watching!
What's your go to springtime bait?
Green pumpkin and orange 3/8 oz jig or a ned rig... take your pick
I'm with you! This is the best time to flip a jig, and I typically pair mine with Geecrack soft plastics.
@@slbassin I'm more of a yamamoto twin tail grub person. Great action, even in cold water.
