@@ccee2399 that is great, really pleased 😊 and thanks for your comment! 🐹
Thank you!
Hey we use the Kaytee Clean and Cozy Lavender scented small animal bedding is that okay for the material and the smell as well ?
No, it’s very dangerous for hamsters any type of animal because the scent irratated the hamster lungs and can cause an upper respiratory infection (it’s like having to inhale really strong perfume 24/7, it’s not good for your lungs). Not only that, but lavender is used as a natural rodent repellent. For information, I would look at the rest of this TH-cam channel, as well as the channels ‘ Victoria Raechel ‘ and ‘ SomethingAnimal ‘ also sorry for talking so much 😅 good luck on your hamster journey!
Completely agree, thanks for your qu @cody7022 and thanks for your reply @Omnomnom53
Where can I get the sand and what type of sand
Reptisand is good. Or Rodipet do desert sand which is also good. You can get both online. 😊
You will never get to the point of getting a realistic enclosure, if you want to keep it kind of all steril. It is no problem to water plants inside the enclosure. Water is only bad for hamsters, if they get in full contact. The sand would suck up enuff water for it to be no problem at all.
Wow, finally a video where nearly everything was right. The only thing which you could improve is in the enclosure size. Its not anymore at 0.5m² but got up to 0.6m². So its now a minimum of 100x60cm or 120x50cm. And Roborowskis are more active then the other ones, so even if they are the smallest kind, they should even get above this minimum of enlosure size.
Hey Thanks! My enclosure is 150cm x 50cm. Pleased to hear that re the size update though :)
Just a thought, maybe if mixing soil with sand would provide both sand and burrowing experiences as soil would be able to hold the burrows better
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. 🐕 🐶 🐕 🐈

Really informative!!! ❤
very informative ....doing our best to prevent infestations in the first place by always freezing food and items such as sprays and cork logs should help . i would put everything in the same positions too inside the newly cleaned enclosure as this should help the robo to be less stressed .
Great points, thanks!😊
Very clear and thorough instructions for the disposing of mites. Very Helpful thank you!!
🐹 pleased to hear it, thank you 😊
Did you find mites in Pearl's enclosure? If so I hope they have gone now. I had no idea the water and vinegar solution was meant to be rinsed off. 😱Hope you , Pearl and the dogs are well. ❤
Hey I recently got a robo hamster. Your channel is very useful
Great, really pleased to hear that! ☺🐹
Do you think pellets are necessary? I’ve been using a seed mix with protein off of etsy.
@@helloitislucie4475 Hi No i no longer buy food mixes with pellets. I prefer to make up my own seed and grain mix and to add insects for protein. I worry what is in pellets as they often contain bulking agents/additional ingredients which aren't nutritious. What is the protein added to the mix you buy? Thanks for your comment.
@ thanks for explaining that! I appreciate it. In this mix besides many different seeds & some other ingredients: there’s silkworm, gammarus and mealworms. I also purchased a separate insect mix that also contains silkworm, as well as black soldier fly pupae and crickets which I try to add to her food every once in a while. I noticed how much food she was hoarding, so over the last few days I’ve fed her a little less though.
@@helloitislucie4475 sounds good 😊 Yes Pearl hoards so much food- she enjoys collecting it so much though 😊🐹
@@stefrose awww ! And and how much do you feed Pearl? 🤍

@@anidahadzera8158 thank you, that is v lovely to hear 😊
i really appreciate all the robo videos you have been making ..they are all very informative . do you recommend using any lab / nuggets in the hamsters diet and i'm unsure about things like milky dog / puppy biscuits and whimzee chews ?
Thanks for your comment. I am so pleased you find them informative 😊 I wouldn't recommend pellets, dog biscuits or nuggets because they contain a lot of unatural ingredients, bulking agents, additives etc. and have low nutritional value. I stick to as natural as possible. I used to give Pearl the occasional whimzee for her teeth but have stopped that after looking into the ingredients which I didn't like the look of. Instead I give her the occasional dried dandelion root which is hard and therefore good for her teeth when she gnaws on it. Plus it has great nutritional benefits. I am going to make one or two more diet related videos going into nutrition a bit more. Happy to take suggestions. Thanks again 🐹
Very informative and interesting as well as helpful to keep our Robos healthy! Thank you for all the info and the links!
@@Lily-Rose-b5t so glad to hear it! Thanks your comment 🐹
Lovely to see how much effort you put into giving her a lot of enrichment! I've got an unrelated question that I hope you don't mind me asking: do you have any experience at all with owning pet mice? Besides TH-cam I don't really use any other social media to be able to reach out directly to mouse owners on forums and such. I'm struggling to find any small channels of mouse keepers on here where I might have a chance of getting my questions answered in the comments (it's quite unlikely a big channel would see and respond to my comment). If you're experienced with mice and willing to answer some of my questions or know of anyone else on the platform that you're familiar with that could help out, please let me know. :)
Reddit or quora might have searchable forums for mice husbandry, mouse keeping, or rodent upkeep. You could also become the small channel on TH-cam and people would ALL too happy to inform you when you mess up.
Thanks for your comment. I would love to give homes to more animals but atm just don't have the space for any other enclosures so sadly I don't. Hopefully in the future though! As per the other comment, I would also suggest forums. Hope you find something 😊
I would bury small terra cotta pots in the sand and plant the grass in there to be able to water more regularly with less worries
Love your Robo channel! Would you do one on robos needing their own space please and why? I have read that hamsters do not belong in colonies and robos and other species need their own space when enclosed ie not in the wild.
Hello! Thanks so much for your comment and for supporting my channel! I have done a video on this yes 🐹☺ Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/ZHegj4upj0o/w-d-xo.html Any other suggestions very welcome!
@@stefrose That's great, thanks! I will check it out!!
Lovely to see a video from you! The grass looked lovely and it was adorable to see Pearl explore it. 🥰 My partner tried growing spider plants in coco fibre but they would not grow. He then grew some in organic soil and once fully grown, they were cleaned and put in a tray filled with coco fibre. We put this tray in my hamsters playpen and he enjoys exploring it but only if there are seeds to find so he ignores the plants. 😂
Thank you. Yes I wish I had more footage of her exploring it and digging but didn't manage to capture all and lost some footage too. That is a good idea, thanks for sharing! Will have to put some more thought into this and try again 😊🐹
@@stefrose Aw, sorry you lost some footage. I hope you get to create more. I am glad you got my comment as I have trouble with my youtube account and most of my messages do not show or if they do they can only be read by clicking new comments.

Welcome! I'm an old subscriber but all the vids are soo interesting!!
What wheels do you use for your Robo hamsters? My little one flips over and loses control on his 9 inch silent runner so I downgraded to a 6 and a half inch silent spinner instead. Ik downgrading isn’t recommended but now I don’t have as much of an issue. He seems to be able to control it much better. but I was wondering if there was a larger wheel that you recommend that was maybe better? ❤
Hi I use the large wooden niteangel wheel with cork liner. I tried the medium but found my robo has more control of the larger one. The cork provides grip and the size is easier for her to control than a smaller one that goes too fast. She never flips over or falls out now. I hope you find the right one.😊
my hybrid dwarf feels like a good medium between the two, she's very cuddly but she's also so tiny
My roborovskis he's too skittish doesn't like to be touched or handled at all ,he's a great escape artist though
I prefer the looks of syrians
Why not pick the hamster up with your hand?

@@antivan2844 where is it turning yellow? All over or in certain areas and if so, which areas? And what you mean by messy? He might be unwell so worth a trip to the vet?
@@stefrose it's on the tail part but im pretty sure it's not wet tail. His hair becomes messy from being smooth. I also want to ask why my roborovski won't breed? I've been keeping them for like 6 months together in a 75 gallon tank but they never actually mate or produce offspring, They are both a year old now

Hey youuu! How much Sand did u used for your enclosure? :)
@@conquerc717 Hi 😊 About 4 or 5 bags of the reptisand.
Just came to check the speed of our Roborovski hamster, Bubbles. Seems an average of 1.86mph is about right. I'm using a ESP32 wirelessly connected to a Raspberry Pi to log the hamster wheel data and produce graphs viewable on a browser. Don't tell Bubbles ;)
@@wakkowarner7391 sounds interesting! How does that work- curious!
@@stefrose An optical sensor reads reflective strips stuck to the wheel in order to measure the revolutions per second. From this, the speed and distance can be calculated by knowing the circumference of the wheel. The ESP32 Microcontroller does all this work. All this data is sent to an Influx database running on a Raspberry Pi 3. This database is time based and its built in Dashboards can be used to display graphs of the data over time. Influx DB runs a web server so its all accessed by a browser, I can remotely see what Bubbles is up to.
Hi! I see a lot about sprays, but I’m wondering if they’re necessary. I think I’d like to include it every once in a while if I got a hamster, but if it’s necessary I’ll obviously have it available at all times 🖤
@@helloitislucie4475Hi 😊 Not necessary as you can scatter feed but they are good for enrichment as your hamster will forage like they would in the wild 😊
