Pemberton Icecap Loop - 170km Triangle via the Elaho
มุมมอง 1.1K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
For a number of years now, flying around the Pemberton icecap via the Elaho has been a big flying dream of mine. In my honest opinion, It's one of, if not -the- most classic lines in our local coast range. It follows such a beautiful natural path using numerous valley systems, gives stunning positions and encompasses a massive amount of ice and alpine terrain. The Elaho, however, doesn't go wit...

With an intimidating looking forecast full of north wind and over-development, Ian and I figured there was till a chance we could pull something interesting off with a pair-a-skis and a paraglider. Instead of trying to fly far, we thought why not just go right into the money zone. A quick drive out to Athelstan followed by a lovely hike up through a burn scar, we found a nice little spot hop on...

Solar Powered Skiing - A Skiing and Paragliding Combo Daydream
มุมมอง 2.1K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
Poor Man's Heli Skiing, Solar Powered Skiing, Combo Skiing, Astro Skiing... Whatever you want to call it, it's one of the coolest things you can do with a paraglider and a pair of skis. On this day, my buddy James and I decided to bail on all of our ground dwelling ski friends and go for a little mission on our own. We made our way to Pemberton with hopes to fly ourselves out to some great ski ...
Spring Flying In Pemberton - Paragliding Hyperlapse
มุมมอง 7777 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've always loved that first spring fly day in Pemberton. The lift is strong and plentiful, the mountains are beautifully draped in a full winter's snowpack and the air is clean and crisp. Oh yea, when I say "crisp", I actually mean ABSOLUTELY FREEZING. So stuff them hand warmers wherever you can, clad yourself in every piece of insulating clothing you own and go get some! www.xcontest.org/worl...

A recent blast of winter blankets the hills with over a meter of snow and cool spring air. The first juicy looking fly day presents itself. It's time to break some trail to launch and get into that sweet sweet cloud street. www.xcontest.org/world/en/ flights/detail:JohnnyRo/5.03.2024/22:53 Music: Ten Thousand Smokes, Nym

When life gives you Pineapples.... Make Pineapple Juice? The 2023/24 ski season has been thin enough as it is. The Last thing we needed was the warmest mid winter pineapple express I think I've ever seen. Low-tide turned into no-tide for many local zones. Naturally, my mind turns to high terrain, 2400m plus or bust. The NW face of Mount Matier was the perfect target, Aussie Couloir could be OK,...

Jam a couple wings into a bag for an extra good time. Sometimes you won't make the glide. Sometimes toplanding isn't in the cards. Sometimes you topland as conditions change and you walk down the Chief. But isn't it worth trying?! YES.

*SKIP TO THE 3:00 MINUTE MARK IF YOU DON'T LIKE HILARIOUS SKIN TRACK BANTER.... BUT YOU'LL TOTALLY MISS OUT. Nobody reads this $#!T anyways, so they'll probably end up having to sit through it. HA!!!! They can't all be bluebird days. For South facing couloirs, you might just find they're best had with a bit of wind, cloud and snow. Every winter day spent skiing in the Coast Mountain backcountry...

Thanks for putting that together. It's a great edit job and a useful review.
love all the laughing, you are having way too much fun.
This is so cool! Thanks for sharing the vid!
Thank you Brent! Super happy to be able to share such a fun mission.
Just ridiculous!
🤟🤟🤟
Rad! Can you post a video of your presentation? Stoked to watch! We've been doing a bit of that combo in AK.
We're hoping to get something set up to record the presentation. It'll definitely get it posted if that happens!
Looks epic 🎉 Moving to BC this winter and would love to do some flying
Oh nice!! BC won't disappoint, hoping for a good winter this year
$%&K*n Legends!!!
I totally agree!
Very nice video! Whats your filming setup?
Thanks! I've been using the insta360 x3 with a little homemade mount for the selfie stick in the side of the harness. I have the cam plugged into a battery bank and just let it record for the whole flight.
Beauty, well done. I have the same PG! I've only flown Pemby on one trip, both on my PG and on my HG and I think it's the best flying site we have in the whole of Canada. Can't wait to return and fly there again.
Pemberton is a stunning place to fly. I definitely consider myself lucky to have such a great site just down the road. And the Volt4 has been an amazing glider!
Nice review, thanks! Fun and informative.
Appreciate it!
Great editing John!
Thanks JP!!!
Electric
High Voltage😁
How did you get into paragliding?
I saw a TH-cam video of someone flying in my local mountains. I was basically sold right then and there.
This is very cool.
So was that sweet sweet NW aspect!!!
Awesome!!
😁😁😁😁😁
Awesome mission
So much fun! Best way to access this place IMO!
Badass
Thanks!
Bare handed climb looks scary
It's a "chossy" scramble. Lots of loose rock. The camera makes it look way more wild than it actually is😜
incredible!
Cheers🤟
Babe wake up! New JohnnyRo vid just dropped!!
Baaaahahaha!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Awesome flight
Thanks buddy! Been meaning to do this for a while now. So rewarding.
The joy of free flight. Long may last
Truly beautiful words. These moments are fleeting in the grand scheme of things.
Johnny! Sick. Not only are you Living my hike n fly dreams, you’re putting down some mind blowing tracks through amazing scenery, sweet editing, and capping it with just right tunes. To Life Well Lived. Fly Free. ⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you Mark! Really appreciate this!
Hey Man you got Instagram? Do you do lessons / coaching / mentoring.?
No instagram. I don't do lessons, but can definitely point you in the right direction if you were interested!
Half of the flight there is no roads :)
Almost!
You guys really pulled off a special one. That route is something else... Inspiring
Thanks buddy! It was such a great journey around the ice. One of those fantasy days that somehow becomes reality.

The Tantalus range is beautiful from every angle you can possibly see it from!
Love it
Thanks Alex!
100% one of the least flown most classic lines in North America! Can't wait to get a crack at it one day! Thanks for posting
Oh man, it's so good! I was pretty pleased to be able to have my crack at it, on such a reliable day. More great days to come!
Absolutely insane! I was flying Pemberton that day too, but nothing like that! I saw one of you guys post the flight on XContest that night and it blew my mind. Something to work towards in a few years, maybe. Congrats on fulfilling a dream!
Oh sweet! Glad you got to fly that day. Best looking sky so far this year for sure. Paragliding is amazing. Make those lofty goals and chip away at the sky one flight at a time. One fine day will come along and it'll be on! Hopefully the rest of July delivers!
Wow, what a day!
@@muwatter The kind of day we all wait for and dream about
Holy crap! Just wow! Looks like most that flight you never came below 3000m?!?!?
@@jasonneufeld7373 Wew! It was definitely high flyin'!
Epic flight.. so awesome...congratulations Jhonny
wow! impressive
@@3RDPeakAdventureThanks buddy! It was such a great sky.
@@schoenackerlaurent That cloudstreet was impressive!
Epic as always!
wew!
Nice shots and flight! Thanks for sharing. How are you fixing the 360 camera?
Thank you! I made a little holder out of light fabric for the base of the selfie stick to sit in. It attaches onto the side/inside of my harness with velcro
@@johnnyro8735 thanks 😊👍
Epic! But the landing on the gravel 😢
Not to worry, these babies are dedicated "land anywhere" skis. This wasn't the first logging rd they've met😂
@@johnnyro8735 Even though I knew that, it still made me cringe! lol
beautiful flight! What is your camera and mount setup?
Thanks! insta 360 x3. I sewed a little pocket into my harness that the selfie stick sits in.
How “tantalizing “ !!! Awesome !
Nothin like a quick afternoon hit of tantalization!
duuuuuude this is life done correctly. well done lads. You've inspired me. Imma do the same thing!
Ah thanks buddy! Life delivered large on this one. You should definitely combo. It's so good!
WOW! That's super awesome. Congrats, looks like a dream come true! AND it's in Canada...Respect.
A Canadian dream, EH. Could have used a Tim Hortons en route, tho. It was f#$&ing cold that day!
@@johnnyro8735 yeah, it is Canada...I never fly without serious covers even in August, nevermind begining of the season.
@@FlyingFelix1 totally! If I fly this afternoon, I'm putting hand warmers in my mitts. It's mid June🤣
@@johnnyro8735 I know! I’m in Golden now and am layering up like crazy for flying. Froze my a$$ first day after driving here, thought it would be an evening sled ride, found myself shivering over the top of the mountain LOL
@@FlyingFelix1 Haha, nice! Getting "golden high" would be a tad chilly for sure. Hope for some good flying for ya!
Honestly this is some of the most original ski content I've seen on YT in years. Good work, cool access, good skiing, awesome snow!
Appreciate it! Wish they were all days like these. Everything was so enjoyable
Dude, what a rewarding day. So cool.
Thanks man!
You have officially blown my mind. That was more epically awesome than I could possibly have expected to find in my feed today. Thank you for sharing your adventure. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Hahaaaa! Thanks Nicholas, I appreciate this!
nice
When it all comes together 😉
Oh man, I love it when it actually does!
mans just took flight off a mountain with a parachute/paraglider using the forces of nature to land on a separate mountain that was kilometers away to proceed to ski down it with his fellow human companion... absolutely incredible documentation
When you put it that way... I guess it was a pretty amazing day! Thank you!
Soooooo sick, you’re just missing tele 😅
