Sample Set Creation: Noise Reduction
In this very long video I talk about the necessary evil that noise reduction of samples for effective usage in GrandOrgue really is. In great detail I show how to perform the noise reduction in Audacity. Generally, I try to preserve as much pipe character as possible and only remove as much noise as I think is absolutely necessary.
The noise reduction process is slow and full of trial and error experimentations. Use your own ears and test tweaking the settings until you're pleased with the outcome. Applying, testing, comparing, undoing and further tweaking is a continous cycle until the results are acceptable.
If anyone wants to find out more about Nick Appleton and the command line noise reduction software he developed around 2010 appletonaudio.com is the place to go. Otherwise use whatever tool you're comfortable with! As I show in this video it's possible to get decent results with the noise reduction and noise gate of Audacity.
When in doubt, always leave more noise in the file! Many times you'll find that it's more pleasant to have samples that are "alive" and possibly a bit noisy than if the samples are dull and boring to the ears - for which there's no cure but to remake the noise reduction again.

Sample Set Creation: Recording Samples
มุมมอง 542 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video the actual process I'm using to play the keys to sample each pipe is shown. To keep the video fairly short I only sample five notes for each stop. In a real sampling situation I'd sample each individual key for every stop and in much longer durations. Keep this in mind when watching! I'm recording into a Zoom F6 device with AKG C 451 B microphones in XY configuration for the close...
Sample Set Creation: Mic Setup XY
มุมมอง 232 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I show microphone setup in XY configuration for sampling a pipe organ. This setup is often used for close microphone placements. When watching this video keep in mind that this is a very small chamber organ in a small room! Actual distances and measurements would differ if the sampling was done on a large organ in a church room with more reverb. The goals when recording for sampli...
Sample Set Creation: Mic Setup AB

In this video I show how to setup microphones in AB configuration for sampling an organ. Keep in mind that this is a very small chamber organ in a small room! If I sampled a large pipe organ in a church the actual measurements and distances would be completely different. The same procedures apply though. Also, sampling has a bit different set of expectations and requirements that differ from re...
Sample Set Creation: Recording Techniques

Some useful material about recording techniques will be discussed in this video, especially related to recording a pipe organ for creating a sample set. But the most important information among all the technical details really is: use your own ears, listen through the microphones to find out if the sound is what you like it to be! Some of the sources mentioned are: www.gracedesign.com/support/S...
Sample Set Creation: Recording Equipment
มุมมอง 312 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this episode some recording equipment will be shown and discussed that you might need if you want to record samples for usage in GrandOrgue. The amount of choices available today is almost overwhelming so I stress the initial advice I got when starting out: use what you have available and if you feel the need and have the means to upgrade - do so, but inform yourself of the possibilities. If...
Sample Set Creation: Introduction
มุมมอง 782 หลายเดือนก่อน
A short overview of sample sets for GrandOrgue that serves as an introduction to this series of videos. This video show what basic files usually make up the content of a sample set and how they can be organized. However, it's also noted that there are no enforced hard rules on how to do this, so it's up to the sample set producers discretion.

Sample File Preparation: Adding metadata

When the audio files are cut up into samples the next step will be to add loop and release markers as well as pitch information. GoOdf Screencast 12: Manual Key Extensions
มุมมอง 1074 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this screencast the possibility to increase the number of keys of a manual, beyond what's visible and directly playable (accessible), is explored. Usually such a feature means that there are pipes only reachable by means of octave couplers. How to accomplish this is demonstrated. The differences in importance of "first MIDI note" of internal rank of a stop and separate ranks is also discussed.

GOODF Screencast 7: Pipe Reading Options

This screencast examines some alternative pipe reading options that might need to be changed depending on how the samples are created and supposed to be used. GOODF is a tool primarily intended for sample set producers. A "normal" GrandOrgue user just wishing to use a sample set they have bought from, for instance Sonus Paradisi, might benefit more from using github.com/GrandOrgue/OdfEdit, but ...

HI I am trying to modify Piotr Grabowskis Freisach so I can have the Stops where I want them like other simple Grand Orgue GUIs. Ive Loosely got it working (the pedals atleast). But when I press a pedal I get the pipe running (sound from the appropriate pipe) and it seems to run probably for the length of the sample regardless if I hold the pedal down or not.eg about 8 to 12 seconds. How do I fix this? (so that the pipe goes quiet when I let go of the pedal). thanks. alex

GO is short for GrandOrgue and current version is 3.13.1 which can be found at github.com/GrandOrgue/grandorgue so there's no 4.0 version yet.

There is a bug---- maybe in an array index 0 is 1 1 is 2 and last will not set. And the concept is not correct, normal you must prepare before stops, then push combination number an then the fix button.

    • @larspalo9427
      @larspalo9427 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Well, that should be done inside of GrandOrgue itself instead. Even if the sample set producer didn't include an option for turning off the key noises you can go to the "Organ Settings" dialog (Audio/Midi - > Organ settings) and disable the loading, or just set volume to 0, for the key action noises that you should find somewhere in the pipe tree. This is of course working under the condition that the action noise isn't actually recorded into the sample itself - then it's permanent.

It looks so simple, but when I go to load an organ the program is looking for the ".orgue" file extension so it does not see the ".organ" I have successfully downloaded the files for the sample organ and located the ".organ" in my file manager as you have in your video, but when I try to do so in the program I hit this roadblock. I am running pop_os, although I am not very knowledgeable about linux. I think it functions similarly to ubuntu. I think this has something to do with assigning the directories, right?
