The Caledonian Sleeper Train from Scotland to London 🚞 The Caledonian sleeper train is an overnight train between Scotland and England. We took the lowlander route from Glasgow, which left at 11:40pm and arrived in around 8:00am. But then, that year or two passed, to be talked of no more, and life sped up again - now at ten times the speed that it was before. “We cannot go back to the way ...

Dealing with Seasonal Depression by Embracing Simple Joys Ah, it's been a tough Winter this year. Coming out of it, my mood has been very low, verging on a kind of seasonal depression. I use my SAD lamp, go to the gym, and get outside. But still, the lingering low mood remains. I recently learned a new term which covers it: anhedonia. The middling, "bleh" feeling that doesn't feel bad enough to...

Gald you had a nice visit in Seattle! Commercial bus travel in the US is not the same as in other countries. Currently, it typically serves those who don't have a means of personal transportation, can't rent a vehicle for whatever reason or can not afford to fly. And usually, the bus depot is now located in a less desirable part of a city. Yes, most restaurants have become a little pricy over here...as with almost everything else. I've lived in a couple cities in NC and discovered I'm not a city type of guy so I doubt I'll ever visit Seattle. lol I know I've made similar comments in the past, however, it bears repeating....you have such a beautiful command of language....you should really write a book!

Ah interesting, I definitely prefer train to bus if I'm going public transport but outwith cities trains don't seem so common in America. Glad to have had the city Seattle experience but happy to back in Scotland again. And thank you so much for your kind words, I've been trying to prioritise writing more recently. Will keep you posted! :)

Wowsers, Kat, you did it in wintry conditions! Bravo. Your vid brought back memories that are still fresh, having done it only last month. I decided on 8 days. Yep that ruddy Loch Lomond gets us all it seems. I'd missed the last ferry (at 7.10pm) to get to my accomm at the Ardlui Hotel and was crying too. It was all too challenging, too exhausting and I was ready to give up BUT the next day - the ferryman did return to collect me - was a new day and though it was a trek to Tyndrum from there, I settled into my stride delighting in the most awesome scenery.... not that the early parts weren't lovely too. Bridge of Orchy to Kingshouse probably my favourite day but the climb out of Kinlochlevan through that birch forest was awesome.... and the views!! Glad you got your hobbit hut for the night! And yes, those last few miles TAKE FOREVER!!

I did it as an almost 70yo and took 8 days. It was a superlative trip with the most awesome views (as 100's of photos and hours of video footage can testify) BUT there are sections along Loch Lomond esp around Rob Roy's cave (after Inversnaid) that are awkward to say the least. Going solo, I was acutely aware of ensuring I didn't slip, fall or injure myself - there were 2 Mountain Rescue calls to Conic Hill when I was there - so walking poles were essential. I'm used to walking long distances as part of my job so I didn't get blisters but I did tire on a couple of days after 10 hours of walking; the terrain can be rough and stony and slowed me down! It is challenging but supremely invigorating and restful to the soul. I booked with Mac Adventures who arranged all my accomm plus luggage transfer. Enjoy your adventure!

I think it depends on how far in advance you book as to the price. We booked around 3 months in advance and it cost £265 for both of us, which included both the room and the rail ticket. It's around £350-450 for the ensuite shower/double bed options. And £50 for a seat, which is just a standard rail ticket I guess. Hope that helps! 😄
