Don't you know that whale sharks are regularly spotted all over Cebu waters? They were spotted often around Mactan Islands, Malapascua Island, Pescador Island (off Moalboal), Dalaguete, Alcoy, Liloan, etc.
You got the wrong info. Where did you get your info about whale sharks in Oslob? I'm from Alcoy, 2nd town up north of Oslob. I have known about whale sharks in Oslob since my grade school years in 1977 when I began to hear about whale sharks, we call it in our local language as 'tuki' which often got entangled in fishermen's nets. The whale sharks in Oslob have long been visiting the Oslob waters since time immemorial. The local fishermen of Oslob even considered them as pests and they hated them because they ruined their nets and fishing lines. They often hit them with oars and other hard objects every time they get close to their nets and lines. They only became popular when a local tourist from Cebu City posted photos and videos of his encounters with whale sharks on social media (FB) in 2011. They went viral and it easily caught the attention of many people including animal rights advocates and environmentalists who didn't like the videos and photos of a tourist who rode on the back of the whale sharks, tugging the tails. Concerned groups from both government and NGOs (including DENR, WWF, USC Marine Biology Department, etc.) quickly went to Oslob and inspected the area and immediately talked to the local town officials to temporarily stop anyone from swimming with whale sharks in their town until they can come up with win-win solutions. Oslob town officials immediately banned the activity right on and after about 10 months. The town officials, along with the concerned groups have come up with rules and guidelines as to how the activity can become a sustainable tourist attraction that benefit both the animals and the people. Thus, the activity officially started in March 2012.
Great educational video!
@@shibby_travels thanks Ivy, I enjoyed your evening discussion of the US - Phil history. Read Col Fredrick Funston’s biography, he was the US Army officer who captured President Aguinaldo. His capture was in large part due to Filipino locals . Having personally operated with the AFP in Luzon chasing the NPA and later Abu Sayyaf in Mindanao. As good as we thought we were as military soldiers a large part of our success was due to the local Filipinos who sided with the ‘Kano’s’ and assisted in their capture.
@ Oh good to know! Will look it up!
As much as we revere President Aquinaldo, he was given up by the local people of Zamboanga. Much like the locals helped us find the NPA and later the guerrila fighters in Mindanao.
@ if you really like Philippine WWII history read, ‘Rampage’ by James Scott, very cheap used on Amazon.

people in the US ar shopping moe online, malls are dying.
@@mduarte1972 sad but true
The problem in American Malls are the uncontrolled crimes, shop lifters cant be arrested that causing bussiness owners a big problem they are loosing a lot of money thats why its better to close than loose more investment not like in the Philippines they have security everywhere to arrest the culprit and turn over to the police later also checking all people going inside to make sure no deadly weapons can bring inside the Mall areas..😅
Great observations and spot on! What people in my state of California fail to grasp is that the 'presence' of a serious security force be it private guards, local law enforcement, etc. enhances shoppers' ability to enjoy the mall experience. Not having to look over your shoulder, as a shopper or 'profile' certain shoppers who look sketchy, as a store owner, go a long way to drawing in customers.
Beautiful video. I agree with your appreciation of the 996. I own a 2001 996. I wonder how the potential of a 996 can be utilised or enjoyed on the roads of California. I live in Germany. Full throttle.
@@pidderlung5160 yea I feel very fortunate that California has so much open roadway. It does make cycling more enjoyable for sure. Thanks for the comment!
Very pretty po!
One reason here is the weather here...People flock in malls because of heat outside and Malls right here become a place to visit to unwind and just walk around but of course that can't be done during the weekends because you will get stress out with so many people in the malls here....weekdays in the morning is just perfect to go to the malls....south Carolina where my aunt lives she said their malls are too small and not as good as here in manila, when they visit here in Manila....
Same in downtown San Francisco, CA. Westfield Mall closed, Macys Union Square is closing in 2025. Many shops in downtown SF have been boarded up due to crimes, homeless people incamp in the city. The blight of the city is due to poor city management. Thank God the incumbent Mayor has been voted out in the last November 2024 Election. She has done nothing. Well said my friend.
I remember when Ontario Mills was built in '96 since I lived a few miles from there. It was so vibrant but before I headed back to the Philippines in 2006, it was already quiet and seemed to be dying. The only place well alive was D&B arcade/resto. Malls in the Philippines last for a very long time even if new ones are built. There's suppose to be a Dave & Busters soon to open here.

Nice! My epic coastal short video (Caunayan Point) from Pagudpud is very close to the historic USS Stinger landing site memorial on WW2 (found on Google maps). There was even a wedding pictorial going on at the middle of the viewpoint when I went there. One of the beaches further north was being renovated as a Balikatan site and they had a big logo of the USMC's Globe and Anchor on it. I wanted to linger for a bit to see if there were actual Marines there but something tells me their COs won't like that at all lol
Did the VA help with the expenses? A US expat vet buddy of mine got a major shoulder surgery in Medical City done by VA-certified local doctors and he even took culinary classes here on the VA's dime. He has 100% disability rating and an Iraq vet. This was right before C***d but it got watered down sometime during the lockdowns.
@@jportega9404 great question! So as a retired and disabled US vet, in the VA system I checked with my local US VA before departing the states. They informed me that if I received any medical services overseas, that related to my current disabilities, I could file online for reimbursement. I am also a retiree Tricare guy and they said the same. So I’ll probably just use my Tricare.

Democrats ruin everything in the US
One of draws of malls, especially in the U.S. during the 80s -90s, was that it was "third space", like parks, where friends & family just go to hang out or people watch. It's still a thing in the Philippines because Filipinos are generally very social. I don't know what happened to Americans. We just don't seem to like to like to hang out anymore.
@@bobmaluga6247 awesome observations Bob. I’ve had that thread discussion with a few other folks too. It’s sad that Americans can’t seem to juggle the two, personal connections and social media. Here in the Philippines most kids have cell phones yet somehow they seem to balance the two.
@Ncollins99 It's also becoming harder to be with the same circle of friends & family that you grew up with, & even the new friends that you make, in the U.S. Everyone's too busy with work or move to other parts of the country to find work or where cost of living is lower. There's very little sense of community in the big city. There's no one to socialize with in U.S. malls. People would rather go to strip malls or online to purchase anything because it's cheaper & more convenient than the mall. It's depressing.
@ it’s funny you say that, I retired in 2023 from a civilian job I had to take, even after retiring from the US Army, to afford to retire in California. Anyway, since we finally retired we anticipated having the ability to spend more time with friends and family. Well as you said everyone we saw has become so stressed out from politics and work that they weren’t in the mood to get together. We came back to the Philippines again to get away from all of that, for a little while. Good comment! Cheers

Enjoyed this short video! Is the MacArthur Suite still there and available for viewing? Or does it have to be booked? Anything there from ww2? The archives in the MacArthur Memorial in Norfolk, Virginia were taken from his penthouse suite (or from the basement but I was told it survived the war especially the liberation of Manila)
@@shibby_travels excellent questions as usual Ivy! Yes, the McArthur suite’s on the 5th floor. They are still doing scheduled tours however they are changing out the old worn carpets so it was unavailable. On the first floor outside the lobby there is a small Mc Arthur memorial room. I did take videos and will post them but I have to admit it wasn’t that impressive. The Corregidor McArthur exhibit was better there.

St. Lukes is one of the very good hospitals in PH. I would compare this hospital with the one in Bangkok Thailand called, Bumrungrad Hospital Bangkok. One of the best hospitals in Thailand. I was confined in that hospital for 2 nights due sever sinus infection & dehydration. Btw: I do not know if you are making PH as your homebase. The reason is, If you are 60 years old which is considered a senior citizen in PH, I believed foreigners can avail of a senior citizens 20% discount on almost every purchases & bills including hospital & restaurant bills. I think one must apply to get the senior discount card. You have to present a valid ID or Passport. Here is the info. from Google. See below. You can do more research on it. " Foreigners who are seniors can apply for a senior discount card in the Philippines if they can present a valid government-issued ID that shows their age or birth date and citizenship1. They may also apply if they have dual citizenship and can prove their Filipino citizenship with at least six months of residency in the Philippines "
How can there be bureaucracy in paying bills when its completely done online? Also I worked in local bank for two decades. Yes there are proper requirements and procedures in place. Where is bureaucracy there?
@@pidgy_poofoom hummm, I pay my Meraclo, water and internet at my local SM mall. I wish I could pay online but it’s not always available, at least to Expats. Mind you it’s a very minor complaint, an observation more so. Being in my 60’s I remember when in the US all we had was pay in person options too. Times do change and I am sure the same will improve here in the PI too.
@@pidgy_poofoom and please don’t misunderstand, I consider it a privilege and an honor that your country (Philippines) allows a foreigner such as myself to stay here.
@@Ncollins99Yes We admit that corruption exists in this country and its not something to be proud of. But I just think its unfair to say there is "bureaucracy" in paying bills and in people working in banks, as if youll never get served and treated fairly unless you know or pay someone to make it easy for you. Mobile banking and online payments are always available for everyone's convenience. My point is --people who are watching these vlogs, they choose to believe everything you, vloggers say and sometimes puts the country in a very bad light....Yes there may be flaws in the system, but its not as if we havent done anything right. No wonder when I watch other vlogs made by foreign content creators, people from the West (who never even went to the PH) would say the NASTIEST THINGS about us. Sad
@ hang on my friend, first off everything in life has pros and cons, the US has many as does the Philippines. To not mention even a ‘minor’ annoyance, such as excessive paperwork, is doing any non Filipino a disservice by not making them aware that the country isn’t perfect and to expect certain annoyances. I am sick of watching TH-cams who advertise foreign destinations, particularly ones that take 14-15 hours to fly to, as “perfect’ paradises. It’s wrong and sets the Philippines up for failure because people will not return or worse not explore the wonders of the Philippines. You tell those Kano’s the truth, things are not perfect here but the beauty outweighs the annoyances The strength of the Philippines is its people and their ability to recognize the issues, fix them and make things better for all.
I’ve been coming to the Philippines since 1985 and was here through the People’s Power Revolution in 86. The country has come a long way since then and has grown safe for Filipinos and foreigners. It will continue to get better as long as people politely express their concerns and voice their opinions. I am guessing you have not watched any of my other 15 videos about the Philippines. Videos that explain the uniqueness of the Philippines and its resilient people.
Why are people in the comments so hateful? BGC will exist even without foreigners visiting it. It is a business hub first and foremost, a central business district. If you dont like visiting in rhe Philippines, then dont! Is that a typical western mindset that when something doesnt meet your standards, you bash it?? Geez these people!
@@pidgy_poofoom brother I don’t see that, 99% of the comments have been respectful and very supportive and as the channel author, I read and responded to them all.
