Blue neon bulbs (brand new)
These 2 blue neon bulbs come from the bag of neon bulb samples I received from my mom's friend in around 2010. Recently I walked through a number of hardware stores and none of them sell blue bulbs, but only amber bulbs.
These bulbs are powered without a ballast resistor in this demo. To use these bulbs properly, always connect a ballast resistor.
Warning: High voltage is applied to power these neon bulbs. If you are going to play around with these bulbs or any other high voltage components, safety precautions must be taken or you may have a risk of electric shock.

EOL T8 36W fluorescent tube

This lamp started flickering after turning on for 1 minute. The bulb has been replaced on the next day.
E9 4.8V clear spotlight incandescent bulbs

These spotlight bulbs have a lens at the top to focus the light of filament, in order to largely increase the output, making it ideal for handheld torches. The rating of these bulbs is 4.8V 500mA. One of them is came from the handheld lamp in this video, while the rest are from a hardware store I cannot remember.
Dual lamp fixture with different ballasts (1)

This fixture has two different ballasts. The instant start ballast is the replacement of the failed program start one. The bulbs are T5 28W 4000K.
E9 6.3V clear tubular incandescent bulbs

These two bulbs are bought from a hardware store I cannot remember in 2008. These bulbs are supposed to be used as panel indicator lamps so they do not appear to be very bright, even powered by 4 alkaline cells (giving out 6 volts). The rating of these bulbs is 6.3V 250mA.

Battery operated handheld 4W fluorescent lantern

This 4W fluorescent lantern is bought in 2007, having 6V 600mA rating, which can be powered by either a regulated plugpack or 4 AA batteries. One of these bulbs is came from this handheld incandescent lantern, while the others are bought from a hardware store I cannot remember before 2010. In this video they are powered by 4 NiMH rechargable cells, which give out 4.8 volts. The rating of these bulbs is 4.8V 500mA, but capable to run up to 6.5 volts. Besides they feature white paint at the base, the filament also gives a high output.

One of those 22 neon bulbs has been darkened and it behaves differently when turned on. This video shows how the distance of my fingers and the camera from the bulb affect its behavior. Just like most of the other fixtures, the ballast of this fixture is also program start while one side of the electrodes would attempt to ignite during warm up stage.
E9 2.5V clear spherical incandescent bulbs

These bulbs came from some integrated science experiment kits for primary education bought in around 2001 to 2003, having a rating of 2.5V 300mA. Those kits also came with some bulb sockets, AA battery cases and wires for children's self-learning purpose. This is the last video that introduces regular low voltage (below 4.5 volts) screw mount mini bulbs.
Lamps with failed backup battery

These two fluorescent fixtures failed the power outage test because of the failed backup battery. They keep flickering for around 10 minutes until the battery exhausted. When the power supply resumes, they turn on normally. If the battery is good and charged, the lamp will glow when the power supply is out, but dimmer than usual.
Self ballasted amber neon bulbs

These amber neon bulbs are salvaged from 4 broken power strips. The bulbs are used to install at the on-off switch of each output socket as indicator. Failed FIAM T5 4W fluorescent tube: revisiting

This failed FIAM fluorescent tube has been put aside for more than a year after the last test, lets power it up again to see if anything different. Different from all other 4 watts fluorescent tubes I used to have, the color temperature of this bulb is 4000K, but unfortunately this is also the only bulb that fails without reaching EOL.

Not at all, still like that you say. And the new LEDs go bad really quick due to cheap quality.

How this neon bulb didn't exploded and tripped the main circuit breaker, if you didn't operated it with a ballasting resistor?
It is not directly from the mains, but a fluorescent lantern.
I have this light and it relies solely on thermionic emission to start. I really it.

@@fansloverz I do own some fluorescent fixtures, but literally a very small number and most of them have already shown off in previous videos. Please feel free to check out my uploads. Even I would collect some bulbs, but I am an electronics hobbist, not a bulb collector. I have built a number of projects, usually relate to lamp simulations and displays. But the viewers are not interested in those uploads so I no longer making those videos.

I just bought a fixture that takes 2 49w t5 fluorescent bulbs i didn't have the bulbs at the time so i bought some t5 49w bulbs from airam one of the two bulbs broke during shipping sadly so i have one now

You got yourself a new neon indicator bulb, neon indicator bulbs, mainly contain the neon gas, but they sometimes contain argon nitrogen, which makes UV light so they use phosphorus for those neon indicator bulbs, Swiss nitrogen argon, gas Foster glow, blue and green so you have a red standard neon indicator bulb and two argon nitrogen ones with blue and green phosphorus

but is the battery pack the same for all the lamps or is there a battery in each lamp?
One battery pack for one lamp, used as emergency lights. Not every lamp has the battery installed.
Does this fixture use a capacitive ballast? I made one with capacitive ballast and the lamp also lasted about 5 weeks like one of yours that you showed in another video, but I don't know if this is due to the circuit being somehow inadequate or the tube being of low quality
Just a regular electronic ballast with glow bottle starter. I tried this lamp in other fixtures and it still failed to start.
