I'm putting together a list of things I want to do to my 2015 f150 5.0 and upgrading the oil pump is something I feel the need to do, but as a mechanic I still have a "since I'm here" mentality, and I think I'm going to add this MMR pro kit to the list since I'll be taking off the front cover. What other upgrades to the valvetrain would you recommend?

@@hitmanhartman1394 depends what your building the truck for I'm assuming your revving the truck high rpm, get some comp cam nsr cams
@@texaseliteperformance4471 I plan to supercharge the truck, I want it to be a fun sleeper while maintaining reliability, hence why I want to do these valve train upgrades to prevent breakage.

No. He technically followed the manual. Nine o clock to time the left side. 12 o clock to time the right side.
Can this be done after the motor is placed in the car and not have a complete oil mess.

I've been plagued with head gasket failures on my 2000 F-250 5.4L 2V engine. Yet again, I'm in the middle of a head gasket job. The engine is one of those online rebuilds, performance something, there's a few and all about the same. The engine was supposedly remanufactured in a Ford plant in Texas is what they told me. It worked great for a couple years until a piece of plastic broke lose in the right side of the front coolant crossover tube lodging at the reducer Ford puts inline in the heater hose causing a boil over. Even though I shut the engine down immediately, apparently the damage had already been done. First, coolant began to leak. We had just started a 2 month, several thousand mile road trip, the leak was small, so we decided to continue. Over the course of the trip, the water leak worsened and a small oil leak formed putting oil into the coolant. Some Bar's Leak did cure the water leak problem, we still had an oil leak problem. WE made it home and I started pulling the engine apart. Fortunately the heads and block are fine, they sanded out flat enough that a .002 gauge can't slip under a straight edge at any point on either the head or block surface. I hand block sanded the engine block and heads through several grits of sand paper down to 400 grit which results in a RA, roughness average of .023. I'm going to use Cometic 3 layer MLX head gaskets .032 thickness, about half the 4 layer FelPro. Cometic wants a RA of .30 or less. I'm going to use the ARP studs too, 85 foot pounds by ARP recommendation. I'm considering using the Permatex copper spray coating for head gaskets, Undecided if you have an opinion on that stuff. I also noticed you have the MMR coolant crossover kit for the rear of the heads. I have that two but I'm plugging the second hole on the right side and placing a TEE center between the two heads, then returning it with the heater core return hose at the valley tube on the right head. I decided to do that because the way MMR connects the left to the right, there is no actual draw of coolant from the left head. Yes the left side connects to the right, but it goes into a large cavity mostly open to the coolant in the right head and having little suction from the left side. If you TEE the left and right together in the center, then connect to the heater return line, you get equal draw from both the right and left head. I actually had to create a custom mount for my crossover because neither side lined up with a hole on the back of my heads to attach with. I'm also installing the Melling 176HV oil pump. 25k miles on my new engine, and the right side chain tensioner was already plugged and not oiling the chain. Replacing all that timing stuff with the Melling kit. Now I will try to be fair to Ford and the troubles I've had with the 5.4 engine. I do travel and carry a truck camper weighing about 4000 pounds with all our stuff in it. I do try to baby it going over mountain passes and not working the engine too hard, but they did sell the engine in a truck that has a camper and tow package so it should be able to do the job. The goals of this rebuild are to have superior gaskets that hopefully will hold up to demand. I'm adding Gibson shorty headers hoping to gain a little torque and HP. Installing a Y-Pipe kit that eliminates 2 choke points in the exhaust and straightens out the pipe path. Port matching the exhaust to the headers with the help of a flexi scope to verify matching fit, Great tool for that. I expect that with the Cometic gasket, my compression should go from 190/200 per cylinder, to 195/210 per cylinder resulting in about 10.5 to 1 compression. The last mod is to increase the cold air intake from 2-1/2" to 3-1/2". With all the mods, Hopefully the engine should gain perhaps 30 HP and be able to handle it without failure. If you care to respond to anything, I'd be most interested to hear how the MMR coolant crossover kit worked for you. Well hey, sorry to be long winded but you might enjoy the story. I have a couple more weeks before I get the truck back together. Hopefully it will last a good while on this repair.
Canton states these are 7 quart pans how much oil are you adding to read full on the dip stick? I just installed one on my cobra 7 quarts doesn’t touch the dip stick
What was your final flatness tolerance with your feeler gauge?

Thanks for the video this mod is so much easier then I first thought! I didn't realize the teeth were on a small shaft adjacent to the plunger, I was thinking id have to grind a bunch of material off the plunger itself haha. Doing this today for my 2003 f250.
Great video, thank you! When you were rotating the engine, the passenger primary guide on thr tensioner side was moving a lot, almost like the tensioner was pumping up and then collapsing. Any idea why the guide was moving so much?
Because there was no oil pressure in the tensioner
Install a catch can and you will trap 3-4 ounces of that every month. bad coil pack or plug will be big cause of misfire too.

Yes bad exhaust valve guides , and a couple of the valve seats were beaten up to , got them rebuilt and theyre good

Idk if anyone realizes this, but 1/4 NPT is just a compressed air fitting. They're $2 at harbor freight, threads in perfectly. No hose clamps needed if the hose is tight enough. I'd just be cautious threading and unthreading a steel and especially brass fitting into those threads of the oil pressure sending connector as they're aluminum threads.

Just use brake cleaner
@texaseliteperformance4471 I ended up just using a small amount of brake clean, microfiber towel and some detailing q tips from harbor freight. Worked great
