Solo Fishing 35 Miles Offshore on the Pathfinder 2700
มุมมอง 7K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
Fishing Solo 35 miles off the coast of Charleston on the Pathfinder 2700 Open. I tried to use the slow pitch jig, but the current was way too strong for the jigs I had, so I resorted to cut bait. I managed to catch a few snapper, a black sea bass to take home for lunch, and snap a Penn Carnage III in half! I hope you enjoy.
Fishing Solo 15 Miles Offshore in THICK FOG!

Solo Fishing trip offshore near the Charleston 60 in thick fog with near zero visibility on the Pathfinder 2700. I caught the usual suspects of red snapper, grouper and black sea bass on the slow pitch jig.

Solo Fishing Offshore at the Charleston 60
มุมมอง 7K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
Join me for an early morning offshore solo trip to the Charleston 60 on a rough and cold winter day. I caught multiple grouper and snapper on cut bait and the slow pitch jig. The ride was a little rough, but the fishing was good on the SeaKeeper equipped Pathfinder 2700 Open.

I am on the fence of which Pathfinder to get. A few years ago I always pull the trigger on 2600 TRS. We love that boat on the sea trial but life happened and now I’m back looking again. How do you think this boat would do in-shore? Near the mouths of the creeks. That new 2400TRS and Open looks great too since I mostly inshore. Juat wish I had the size when the family and their friends want a day on the boat.
I have owned them both and I really enjoyed both of them, but the 2600 was a lot better for me inshore. I rarely used the 2700 inshore.
@@solofishcharleston thats what I thought and why I was considering the new 2400
I think that would be a better inshore boat for sure! If you are local, the team at Palmetto Boat Sales are great!
@@solofishcharleston oh yes. My restaurant is 2 doors down from them. I know the owner well.
Awesome, which restaurant? I might try to grab some lunch there next time I am over that way.
How are you? Nice job on the solo Black SeaBass trip.💪🏿💪🏿 I would like to know what brand and model slow pitch jigging rod you used on this trip??
Thanks! It is a Shimano Grappler slow pitch 6'8" ML rod with an Accurate Boss Valiant 300 reel and 20 lb braid.
Hey just watch your video this is a place i would love to go how far pass the jetties is the Charleston 60 reef???
It's about 14 miles from the end of the jetties.
I am headed to Charleston next week and will be trying to fish the same wrecks if the weather holds up. Thanks for the video!
Awesome, hope you have a great trip!
Hi nice video 🎣 whats your set up combo sir ? Thanks and advantage!
Thanks! Shimano Grappler Slow Pitch with an Accurate BV-300-SP and 20 lb braid.
@@solofishcharleston thanks amazing combo I will buy it too 🎣🎣🎣
Another question sorry what's the length 6.8 and medium action?
6'8" Medium Light.
Nice, hope i get out there soon!!
Thanks, hope you do too!
No decending device ?
Yes, I always have a descending device onboard. It's only about 60' deep here.
@@solofishcharleston in Georgia they ticket us for not using it in the near by reefs which are in about 40-70 feet of water . And they check your GPS chart to see where you have been fishing.
You should try brining those frozen baits so they’re not so mushy… And if you did a real mooching rig to add action you’d kill it out there. Love your boat!
Thanks!
a sea cucumber
Thanks!
Hey man love the channel. Fish out of CHS the majority of the time, too. What carnage are you using for your 60-80feet of spinning gear?
Thank you! I use the 6'6" Medium Heavy Boat Rod.
Looks like your 2700 is listed for sale!? What’s next captain??
Contender 32ST. I loved the PF, but I just wanted something a little more comfortable for those longer runs. Getting everything sorted out now and hoping to make a run out this weekend.
That’s an awesome upgrade! Congratulations! Can’t wait to see future videos.
Enjoy the videos, keep up the good work. In case you aren't aware, pretty sure you're required to have a descending device onboard (www.dnr.sc.gov/news/2020/jul/jul1_snapper.php).
Beautiful boat. I’ve been looking at the 2700 and 2500 models. How do you like the 2700?
It's a great boat! It has been a great do it all boat for me.
Do you have Livescope installed on your pathfinder?
Yep, I do. I find it very useful bottom fishing.
When black seabassing gotta move around the wreck n rocks to find bigger Humppies .
Agreed, I try to move around often. Thanks for the feedback!
I'm willing to go with you next time :)
Goat
+enjoyed your video. I love bottom fishing.
Glad you enjoyed!
I knew if you had any good structure down there that pyramid sinker was going to get lost, but I didn't think it would take that nice Carnage 3 rod with it. If you got it at West Marine they might exchange it for you. Good video though!
Yep, the pyramid sinker was not ideal, but it was the only weight over 6 oz I had with me and the current was ripping. Thanks for the positive feedback!
Nice👍
Thanks!
Me @ 10:00 screaming at monitor, "loosen your drag !!!"
Yep, I was being impatient! Lesson learned.
Beautiful boat! I’m in the Charleston area! If you see a old Pathfinder 23DV with twin it’s me 👍🏼
Thanks and I'll keep an eye out for you!
You need someone to teach you a bit.
Yep, I'm sure I do. I just started doing this a couple of years ago.
@@solofishcharleston adjust your drag always. If you're out there alone with a 50 your drag isn't set, you could easily go off the boat. Don't leave your filet knife on the deck, and last don't go offshore alone, it's just not safe, find a good fishing partner. If you ask for help someone will help. Look at it this way, it will make you a better fisherman faster. Just a couple tips, good luck and be careful out there.
Love your SPJ vids! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Whats that sound like a loud pump is on or something, is that the seakeeper?
Yes, it is the SeaKeeper. Strangely, you barely notice it when you are on the boat, but it really stands out in the videos.
@@solofishcharleston yeah just wondering cause looking at boats that seakeeper ready, getting old and it seems like a game changer.
It makes a huge difference. At some point, I'll do a video on the SeaKeeper.
@@solofishcharleston cool, definitely like to see that
Sea slug or sea cucumber,I'm guessing.Colouration almost as same as your jigs.I enjoy your solo fishing.Great stuff. Go well.
Thanks for the feedback!
I agree sea cucumber and keep up the videos
Great video! Wtg! Sorry for ur friend as l see he’s struggling with the Willy’s of offshore but toughing it out like a champ! I always test people at nearshore reaf before taking them out to weed out the weak stomachs, the cure is to put them on some big fish and they forget all about being sick and are good to go!
Yep, it was a little sporty out there that day! He finally recovered and enjoyed the day though. Thanks for the feedback!
Can that boat run 35-40 mph in that water condition?
Yes, especially in a following sea. I probably ran out at around 30 and back at 40 + with the following sea.
If you want a lighter reel with more power/torque, try a van staal VR150. I had a Penn slammer 5500. I could only use it for 30min due to the weight. I can fish my vr150 all day The gear on the van staal is twice as big.
I'll check it out as I have not been all that thrilled with the slammers.
I appreciate your videos. I live in aiken SC and watching your videos make my day when I can’t get to the coast Thanks
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Nice catch
Thanks!
What mpg does the 27 get cruising I have a 25 Jupiter that gets 2.5 at 30-32mph
It can do very close to 3 in the low 30s, but it's most comfortable up on the step around 40 mph getting 2.5 mpg.
Cool to see someone locally jigging! Love the videos man and happy to find your channel!
Thanks for the comments and hope to see you out there one day!
@@solofishcharleston 33 hydrasport is what we fish. “Peace Pipe”
Sweet, I'll keep an eye out for it!
Would have been a good day for some footage of that pathfinder running in some chop!
I have some good running footage from this morning that I will put in the next video.

Damn that sucks that the rod snapped, should have loosened the drag.
Yep, 100% my fault. I was just being impatient.
@@solofishcharleston , I've done that before. So excited about the fish, I forgot to set the drag. Love this video. I've spent many days fishing alone. Brings back good memories.
@@dewanehill1435 Yep, I still get super excited when I hook something big! Thanks for the comments.
Beautiful boat!
Thank you!
Where did you get your tool kit? Damn that fog is thick!
It's just a cheap Amazon tool kit. They corrode fast on the boat, so I'll replace it every so often.
I recently sold my 32' Contender to downsize. How is the 27 Open holding up? I love the layout, but concerned the quality might not be what I expect. The Yamaha Performance Bulletin says you'll get around 2.5 mpg at 40mph. Are you seeing close to that?
I have not had any major issues and I run it pretty hard. Fuel economy is great and I generally see 2.5+ at that speed in smooth seas. I had a Regulator 25 before this that was a great boat, but it sucked down the fuel at pretty much any speed. This is my 3rd Pathfinder and they have all been great.
@@solofishcharleston Thanks! Really excited to get 1. I fish NE Fla and make runs similar to you. I know it won't ride as good as my 32ST but I hope it's ok? Keep up the content!
Agreed! The PF doesn't ride as good as my Regulator did, but I still love it. The layout is way better, better fuel economy, easier to handle at the sandbar, etc.
Great looking boat! Where did you have to go to buy it? Haven't saw a pf dealership in Charleston.
Palmetto Boat Sales on Savannah Hwy. Ask for Robby and tell him Brant sent you.
Great boat! Who installed your Seakeeper? What rod and reels do you use for your cut bait rods? What is the smaller screen located on the top of console? Tight lines and keep up the good content!
The SeaKeeper was installed by Safe Harbor City Boatyard here in Charleston. Happy to share more info on the install if interested. The smaller screen is just a 2nd Garmin chart plotter. My favorite cut and live bait setup is my 6' 6" Penn Carnage III paired with a Penn Slammer 6500 and 50 lb braid. I generally use shorter rods just because it is easier for me to handle when I am solo. Thanks for the encouragement!
Yes I would like to see more! So what seas do you like to go out on ? What do you find comfortable? For your slow pitch jigging what size jigs are you using? I currently have a G3 bay boat so I really need calm seas to go out to the reefs! Your boat would be a really nice step up! Thanks for the pics!
I'll try to show more of the SeaKeeper in a future video. Ideally, I would like 3' or less with winds 10 knots or less. However, I will go out if the forecast is up to 5' and wind is 20 knots and the conditions are improving throughout the day. I don't want to go out at the limit if conditions are forecasted to get worse. FYI, I'm still new at this, so don't take this as guidance, it's just what I do. Those G3s are nice boats!
Sir use the small fish as bait to catch the big one..
No doubt, just learning and having fun right now. Bigger fish coming in the future!
I said it before but that boat is bad ass!!!
Thanks man!
What rod and reel are you using?
Shimano Grappler Type Slow J Medium Light rod with an Accurate Boss Valiant BV-300-SPJ Reel. It's a super lightweight setup that I love using.
Think about getting ocen 2000 and game J slow in medium. Do you like slow jig more than cut bait ?
Yes, I do enjoy it more. There is just something about the way a fish hits the slow pitch. However, I still use cut bait quite a bit. I always start with the slow pitch, and move to the cut bait if the fish aren't biting.
Really nice center console boat man. Nice groupers as well. I just subscribed to your channel for future content. Keep them coming and tight lines.
Thanks for the feedback and sub!
To me this is the ultimate SW Florida boat. Few years before I relocate, the 2700 open will be the boat we buy. Just love everything about that boat.
I agree completely. It's a great boat!
Beautiful boat! How is the ride in comparison to the Regulator 25? Where did you install the Seakeeper gyro? I'm definitely gonna be checking that 2700 Open out at the Miami boat show in Feb.
Thank you! The Reg has a better ride offshore, but the PF is faster, lighter, way more fuel efficient, and a better layout for my needs. The SeaKeeper is mounted on the deck in front of the console. I had the fiberglass cooler modified to enclose it.
How much do you love that pathfinder? It looks like a perfect layout. Unless you think the bow layout could be better?
It's an awesome boat! The bow layout works great for my needs.
