I have a question I just ran into your channel how is the pay like weekly or yearly thanks in advance
@Tony92805 It depends on what company you work for, and normal pay is $30, $32 per hour, and maybe 2 or 3 dollars more for the night shift. I say start calling places now. I do not recommend working for companies that pay employees only per trip.
@ thank you for the information
Truck Safe
Thank you! You too driver! 😁✌️
Good video... I like that you show the spot you need to go to. Then show a map with a drawn path to where you need to go. I'm starting ports this week, and to be honest, I'm a little nervous. When you initially get your ticket, does it give you a general directions on how to get to your spot? How do you generally know where you're going? Are there indicators or signs that direct you there aside from a map?
@Mdroudian I'm so happy the video is helping! Please watch my other video, "How to drive in APM port." It has a good map view too! th-cam.com/video/1u32L6IEOic/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mmMsOi3keYjKWyl4 The ports are organized by block, so usually, it tells you the block and spot number. My last bobtail video at FMS is pretty good, too. Mostly, we learn it out as we go. Try asking other drivers and co-workers for help is probably best. The port employees, security guards don't always know either. After you go to the same port a few times, you get the hang of it. It's just a new map to learn. 🙂👍
It's funny how you put all of your videos and fast paced so you don't actually see how long you're sitting in line you can't make no money hauling containers I did it for years you barely break even. All the containers is for people that really don't want to work just have something to do😂😂😂😂😂
@thomasreyes2857 🤣 It does take lots of time, and some videos include the time it for that trip. Although I had my share of negative experiences, good money keeps me here, and I imagine all these other people feel the same.
I drove the port for years if it's taking you on the average 4 hours to get a can out you're not making no money at all. And you didn't have to get lights fixed get a gen set put on get a flat tire fixed all this s*** adds up to more time. Driving in the ports are for people that really don't want to work. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yes, you're right, for drivers getting paid only per trip. However, good money keeps me here. 🙂
Holland containers is for people that don't want to make any money. You'll sit there hours trying to get a reefer hooked up getting lights fixed getting a tire fixed it's a waste of time working in a port. You spend more time sitting there and don't get paid for s*** it's a nightmare. 😂😂😂😂😂
@thomasreyes2857 That is also true here, for people who get paid per trip only. However, lots of local companies pay per hour or a combination of hourly pay plus a container bonus. 🙂
Truck Safe
@Hulicestavares1727 Will do! 😎
that flip line is one of the worst sometimes.
@federicosicairos1592 I have been trying to get a good video there, but sometimes I can't get the video to work-out, and this time was good and clear. 🙂👍
What's the flip line? I'm moving to ports so I'm trying to learn as much as I can.
@@Mdroudian in the shortest of words, it's containers that are set on chassis inside the ports. When you're in that line, you give the clerks the container number, the on site driver then go pick up that chassis and they then take that container off and out it on your chassis
@Mdroudian It's for whenever we have to switch a container from one chassis to another. There are many reasons why. Sometimes, the container is already on a port chassis, but that chassis is damaged, and you'll have to find another chassis, then go to the flip line. The easiest one is when you have a company owned chassis and they have to load the container on your chassis, as it happened in this video. 🙂 For the most part, we all learned as we go.

@@Hulicestavares1727 I did not show that part in this video. Sorry 😅
Hey bro nice video 💯 I’m a truck driver in IL I was wondering how can I come out there and do the same thing?
Hi! Probably the first thing is get your T.W.I.C. card. Then probably anyone will hire you if you already have more than 2 years experience. Then learning the ports is not that difficult, and that is the point to my videos, for new drivers. 😁✌️
@ I have Twic card because I handle air fright at Ohere air port. And I’m almost at 4 years accident free how much can I expect to make
I'm an employee driver, and I would not recommend working anywhere that only pays you per trip or any place that only has very old and rundown trucks. The pay depends on who you work for, but you can expect to make about $30-$32 an hour, and probably $34 an hour for the night shift. I say, just start calling places now!

@@PortsOfLosAngeles You know which lane to be in at all times. Good job and thanks for the post. I enjoy them.
Port drivers are another breed. Just crazy. I would not like this on a daily bass.
😅 Thank you! I am so happy you watched the video! I did my time OTR as a new driver, and now it is my personal opinion that this work is a lot easier. 😊
What happens if you have 2 26 foot containers? 😊
@ssweeps So. They do know it in the control room. I have had a 20 foot, and 40 foot container, in one transaction. In case of 2 containers, they will take the one at a time. When i had different sized, they open the gate so I can adjust the chassis. It just takes a little longer, and someone will probably talk to you in the booth speaker. 🙂
Is the ticket how you get paid? Where do you fill up with fuel? 😊 My cousin used to drive from MN to California. Owner operator. He delivered playground equipment. He would fill both tanks in South Dakota to save money. He could drive all the way to SD and back on one fuel trip. He would pick up trailers in California to take back to SD or MN. Pallets of plastic pellets or whatever needed to get out right away. 😊
@ssweeps Hi!😀 There is a transaction ticket from the port, and that one is proof of the transaction. I am an employee driver and we get paid be the hour, plus a little extra per completed container. There are fuel stations near by. It depends who I work for. Most places, we have to fuel the truck at the end of my shift, so it is full and ready for the next shift. Sometimes, we can have a fuel service, and they come to the company yard and fuel up the trucks.😄
I use to work at a terminal like this. Not as big as this one, but it could get crazy at times.
@tomharris8263 Yeah, it's not crazy every day, but they take their turns.
Good ole trashpac lol
@Og_Blue_ yes! 😅 Every time!
Where are you taking the containers?
I am an employee driver, sometimes I take it to the final destination (a warehouse delivery somewhere) and sometimes they don't need me to make the delivery so I drop it at the company yard. Most companies have the same system.
@@PortsOfLosAngeles so how far away are the final destinations?
@dubbdadubb Usually for us local drivers anywhere in the grater L.A. area. We can drive from a port to anywhere that you can get there and come back to base in one shift. Any trips going long haul are taken mostly by drivers who drive Over the Road. Depending on what company you work for.
So how did you that was your container? The other ones looked the same…🤔
😆 yes they all look alike! 😆 Containers have an I.D. number, and I can only pick-up a container that belongs to my company. There is a whole transaction process. 🙂
@@PortsOfLosAngeles this is so fascinating 😀
