The Best Way to Experience Fall in Maine: Vintage Trolley & Rail Bikes
OBSCURIST TOURIST 150 - The changing of the seasons in 2024 is well underway, and the only true way to experience autumn is by riding an old trolley through the forest and then following it up with a railbike ride on some abandoned railroad tracks in Maine.
The Seashore Trolley Museum is a hidden gem in Kennebunkport and Kennebunk, and has a world-class transit collection. Its exhibits and guides call attention to the technological, aesthetic, and historically significant characteristics of these almost-forgotten modes of transport. Not only does ir offer the opportunity to ride an old trolley on disused rail tracks into the forest, but it has partnered with Revolution Rail to offer railbike rides as well. In fact, if you buy a ticket to ride the railbikes, you are also given free admission to the entire Seashore Trolley Museum (including a 45-minute trolley ride). Come along as I show you around this amazing place!

Inside Italy's Eerie Ghost City: Poggioreale
มุมมอง 1.3K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
OBSCURIST TOURIST 145 - For many years, I had one place sitting atop my "must visit" ghost towns list: Ruderi di Poggioreale. And, I FINALLY had the chance to visit it - and it did not disappoint by any means. One of the craziest places I've ever seen. It is out of a movie. It is so large that I don't think I was able to see even a quarter of what was in the town. Destroyed by the great Belice ...

OBSCURIST TOURIST 144 - I had the pleasure of staying a couple nights at the Blackstone Hotsprings in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. It is luxury lodging at its finest, but on a smaller, much more palatable scale - a small-town scale, if you will. The grounds, the room, and the staff were nothing short of amazing. The hot springs were insanely relaxing, and there's even a resident cat who w...

OBSCURIST TOURIST 143 - Truth or Consequences is a city in New Mexico. It has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names for having chosen to rename itself in the 1950s after a radio show of the same name. I spent a few days here to explore the town and immerse myself in its culture, but I also was not fully aware that I'd be one of the only tourists in the town because Ari Aster's H...

Great story. Will be looking for your book through the library here in Roskilde, Denmark. The first and only time I saw them live was at their final show of the reunion tour in Stockholm. Amazing show! Still have a piece of confetti that landed in my hair as a keepsake.
I was there plus c p r I I'm DC wvp 2586,1965
I was there TODAY!!!
Did you go in the basement? I forgot my flashlight that day, sadly. Was only able to get down there for a bit

RIP George A Romero 😔🍁
I remember that TV show! "Don't go 'way, it's time to play...Truth (ding, ding, ding!), or consequences (Buuuuzzzz!)
Was there 3 weeks ago. Met Walt and hiked to the Great Western mine on top of the hill.
Walt’s a great guy!!! I really wanted to check out the mine, but was strapped for time. Would you recommend?
@@ObscuristTourist I thought the mine was worthwhile. I explored a couple of abandoned cabins along the way. th-cam.com/video/Wg_ZMy1oNHA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_JWFe_Ar6zBDSpaD
Thank you for information
Thanks for watching!!! 🤗
Is it visitable?
It’s remote, but totally visitable. One just had to be careful as it’s unstable. People don’t tend to ruin historical sites and abandoned places like they do in America/Canada … so there’s more trust allotted to visitors.
@@ObscuristTourist Yeah I know… I hope it will be fine to visit despite I’ve read from Google that is permanently closed… Thx!
@@CBD_Games It is an abandoned city, so Google will say it’s permanently closed.
Thanks for sharing this video. Enjoy excursion trains and the little world of adventure they open. The alcohol was a little pricey, but then again, everything is pricey now-a-days, besides, after a few, you just want to enjoy the ride.
What was with that dude in the sunglasses?
He was an interesting character. Seemed like he didn’t want to be there when he boarded, and by the end of the trip he was having a blast. I liked the character arc 😎
The brewery is pronounced boss-kay. Knew of this train, always thought they only went to Lamy. Looks pretty chill enjoyable ride and scenery. Very typical northern New Mexico with the high desert vistas.
Thanks for that. Always hate mispronouncing things. You gotta check out the train, though. So many other options other than that Serenade. Just a really chill vibe as you say, and nice to have a drink and enjoy the sights.
Just stay home

I live 10 minutes from Gilman and have hiked into that canyon to fish. It's all private property and an EPA Superfund site. In the 80's the mine leached serious heavy metals into the river and killed all life for 4 miles down river. Always wanted to explore but because I am a local and know better my LEO friends and the caretaker of the property tell me Id be arrested if caught. If I did I certainly wouldn't film it while showing my face. You're right the ground is extremely contaminated but more so in the canyon by the main shaft. So much so you begin to feel sick after a short time b
The art in the post office is not native American. Its a product of a Depression Era program that created work for artists . Similar art is in old post offices all over the country
i hope u visit the other floors
Captured Germans also lived there during the war. In the summer they were allowed to go to port Stanley. Many refused to return to Germany because of how nice they had it.
It’s a pretty amazing story, and also a VERY good reminder of why Canada is held in such high esteem in foreign countries.
I saw myself at 18:10😂😂
Gettin’ some eats at A&B! 🤗
Great video. Kinda funny that the narrator is a little out of breath because of the high altitude.
I live at sea level, so I’m ALWAYS out of breath in T or C. I’m like an old man. 😂
Pee-wee's Big Adventure - Simone's lumberjack boyfriend Andy was ex-professional football player John Matuszak, who graduated from the University of Tampa

that old press is now down the stairs blocking it LMAO

The nurse in the poster is checking the student for scoliosis.

@ObscuristTourist You're welcome. The experience was kinda weird. Everyone would line up in the gym locker rooms for checkups. Boys in one and girls in another, of course.
My Favorite Town In USA Bisbee, Arizona - AMERICA IS CANADA MEXICO ARGENTINA CHILE ETC
You mean the AMERICAS includes Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, etc. Also, here’s a definition of the USA: “The United States of America (USA or U.S.A.), commonly known as the United States (US or U.S.) or AMERICA, is a country primarily located in North America.” But thanks for the geography lesson 😂
Hey I live here and I thought you did great my friend
Thanks for watching Louis! Love your town. 🤗❤️
Hell yeah...now I moved around when I was younger.. I was and thinking this town sucks And I'm older now..I kinda understand it now 🤣
@@louisgervasio7570 I live in Toronto (pop. 3 million). I loved it when I was younger, but as I’ve gotten older I really, REALLY appreciate the charm of smaller towns. I’ve been going to T or C for over a decade and not much has changed, but so much changes in a year in a big city. I also love the pace of a place like T or C. Just a very different vibe
@@ObscuristTourist well if your in town look me up and I will show you...see that tree got bigger
It is a agave plant or a century plant, not aloe.
Botany is not my strong suit!!! Thank yooooooou!!! 🌴🤗
Great video. Some of your spots were just part of the movie set (the desert rose bar…not a bar; the Christian place…a wine bar).
Wow. Despite visiting many times, I was completely fooled about what was real and what wasn’t. It’s been a while since my last visit. Thanks for pointing that out. 🤗😎
Thanks for featuring our sweet little desert oasis! This quirky place got a little weirder when the movie came to town for sure. One of the funniest business takeovers was our super cool little venue (music, drinks), Love Shack, was turned into the Christ Center. You can sip some Sangria and give snaps to the music guest! Lastly, thanks for giving some love to our Skoolie, Old Bess, who was "starring" in Eddington. We're very proud of her for starting her film career so late in life 😊. Come back and see us and bring some friends!
Haha. I kept seeing Skoolie all over town! I remember the venue, but it’s been a while since I was in town … so I couldn’t figure out if it was part of the movie or a new thing in town. Thanks for the heads up!!! 🤗❤️
@ObscuristTourist the movie DID hire her twice! We just usually use her to camp 🏕
@@krislittman5725 haha. Love it. She’s doing double duty!!! What a legend. 🫡
It good video ,but T or C has lot MORE to offer then our great downtown and T or C is gateway to many other great areas of Sierra County . I hope one day you visit and show off rest of our beautiful little county seat ..
Hiiii!!! This video was kind of a weird one, as I planned on a bigger more immersive video on T or C and stepping off the strip. I will do that one in the future! Promise. Thanks for watching and, of course, I love your town. ❤️❤️🤗
You missed the best parts of our town by limiting yourself to 2 streets. We have so many fantastic places to share. A healing arts center, 5 dispensaries, a bowling alley, a glamp camp, a town full of healers and artists. The Rio Grande runs right through our town and offers floating in the summer. The Healing Waters Trail offers hiking with an incredible view of the town. A walk through of Ralph Edward's Park when mentioning Fiesta would have been beautiful since it was the main host of the party for so many years. This video didn't even know the difference between real businesses, closed businesses and movie sets. You showed our beautiful mountain from behind trees. If you want to feature our town please come back and let a local give you a proper tour first. We have so much to offer.
What a rude commercial on this mans video. Not all residents are so salty!
I don't feel that it is salty to say that our town is absolutely beautiful and what is shown here is not a representation of our town at all. Nor do I feel like I am running a commercial when I get no reimbursement, nor did I mention any business name. Just a person that loves my town.
@@ravenwillow other people can create videos of places without needing such criticisms of their effort. He did this for fun not your emotions. Entitlement to be so nasty about this one makes me less inclined to support your efforts in the town. Salty af. He's a visitor! A guest. Think about it.
I’ve been to T or C a few times in the past, so I was a little confused upon this visit with the movie in town. I recognized some stuff as being from the movie, but not others. Regardless, there is another, longer and more immersive video of T or C in the works. I absolutely love your town, so please understand this one was more related to the main strip and the love, of course. More to come!!! 🤗❤️
I 100% get that. There is a longer and more immersive video on T or C in the works, that has zero relation to the movie and takes you off the strip. Hold tight. ❤️
I lived there for 7 years just got out lmao
😂😂😂
@@ObscuristTouristyou missed the rude people and randos but love the history you put in this video
That was an agave or century plant. Not an aloe. The same kind of plant you make tequila from. Also, we don't have any bars or saloons downtown. We have Raymonds bar, Los Arcos, and the golf course at Turtleback Mountain Resort. Most of what you saw was for the movie set. Most places downtown is art galleries and chochki stores. TorC Brewery is great. They have an AMAZING Cosmic Blonde. TorC is known as the Santa Fe of Southern NM. I watched the video, and i mean no offense but If you're a tourist and filming these places, why aren't you learning more about them to educate your subscribers prior to filming so that you can educate people about these destinations? Literally you could have taken 10 minutes to talk to any local and learned about the town prior to filming this. 😂
I totally understand the frustration, and the plan was to do a broader video on T or C … but the Eddington filming in the town made that impossible. The plan is to do a longer video that is more immersive about T or C, so don’t worry! 🤗
If you think this town is unique then you need to see Eureka Springs, Arkansas. A haunted Victorian village filled with restaurants, hotels, art, festivals all year long. It feels like you are a European village.
Funnily enough, I actually have a video tour of Eureka Springs coming out soon. One of my favorite places in the U.S. for sure. Always stay at the Crescent Hotel. Just the best!!!! ❤️🤗
How dare you call Eddington!
I'm just kidding bro I don't miss that town. the only thing I miss from there is my dad and my sister and my brother!
😂
I can fully understand why someone would want to escape from T or C. I love to visit there; but even after two days I started to get a little antsy to leave.
I the A&B used to have a 1 lb meat burrito that was the absolutely best!
That’s AMAZING! 😂
My Dad still lives there. Man,if i was with you i could show you some awesome things!
I could use a little local knowledge for the next time I’m in town!!! 😎🤗
My mom was born in 1940 just a few miles away from there. She said she always loved to go there. Was there just a few months ago. It's a really cute town.
Love the town! 🤗❤️
My mother's was born
unless it's the place it was when I was young. it can burn to the ground for all I care. Long live boblo island amusement park.
Sadly, a distant memory from what you experienced there. 😢
Anyone know the status to be able to enter it? I heard theres a bit of security but is there a time which its less? or any good routes to enter?
Security makes its rounds. My personal advice is to go alone and keep and super low profile as you explore. My only real issues with security have been because I’ve been with 2 or more people n
@@ObscuristTourist is there a risk of homeless? I kinda wanted to go with a few friends but if low profile is better i might have to make do with just 1 friend
@@Quito87No risk of homeless people. It’s located in a quiet, rural-type area near the new hospital. Also, security is good at what it does in getting rid of any homeless that may linger. As with all these explores, if you kind of do some recon before you make moves in the open - you can avoid the security patrols. I always go alone, because voices carry and most people get caught because of talking rather than seeing trespassers. I’ve always found exploring far safer alone because I’m fully aware of my surroundings and I usually see someone before they see me. Of course, I’m a guy and it’s VERY different as a woman to be alone in these situations.
@@ObscuristTourist Dude tysm! Im really new to urban exploring so im still tryna learn a little how to avoid security and get inside places etc. final thing like do you think its still possible to enter? You dont have to tell me cus ik like the risk of ppl ruining the fun for everyone is high but yea is entering still a possibility? Also im a guy too so dw i getcha
@@Quito87 It depends on the day. SOMETIMES another explorer will have moved a piece of wood for entry and sometimes there’s no way to enter. Because security is constantly in patrol here, you can only rely on luck. That’s the only advice I can give you.
I was just there last weekend. There was a kid who said he could feel a cat brushing up against his legs even tho nothing was there... And the lady who gave us the "haunted tour" said that was one of the paranormal experiences some people have had. I guess it was Morris saying hello, LoL! We got to see Jasper too.
Amazing! The haunted tour is one of my favorite things there. Did you get to meet the new kitten they have onsite? 🤗
@ObscuristTourist No. We saw Jasper and I remember they said there was another cat in the hotel, but we didn't see it.
Bisbee is Mayberry on Crack. lol That’s actually a bumper sticker in Bisbee
That sounds wildly accurate 😂😂
Trivia: The Goldfield Hotel is featured in the original version of the movie Vanishing Point (1971), where character "Super Soul" (Cleavon Little), a blind DJ, broadcast his radio show from the Goldfield. Great flick. The '90's remake - not so much.
Yes! I remember seeing that movie years ago. Interesting little tidbit. 🙏

Obnoxious intrusive music obscures this good reporting!
How do you get in that place?
It always changes, so just show up and see. Though, the owners are far more vigilant now and also do hunting on the land. So the danger level has risen greatly since I explored it.
I was walking around there today. I was trying to find the doc on Tubi movies. It was good and evil side playing out there. The germans were experimenting on prisoners and local poor or displaced humans. That part was hidden from us. I wish I could find the documentary on Tubi. What we were told about WWW-2 much lies.. Hitler wasn't the problem. It was that race not allowed to say. It's Bibilcal . Like happening today when they are trying another reset with the plandemic 2020 . Big rabbit hole. You don't have all the truth... Just what your told.
