  • OBSCURIST TOURIST 131 - Oak Island off the south shore of Nova Scotia, Canada is a privately owned island steeped in mystery and legend. The tree-covered island is best known for various theories about buried treasure or historical artifacts, and the associated attempts to explore the site - and the deaths surrounding those attempts. Some say it's where Captain Kidd buried his treasure, but others just say the island is cursed. The History channel has even based a show on it called The Curse of Oak Island - now in its 11th season.
Come along with me as I give you a rare glimpse of the island ... and see what I find.

I've been watching this show for years, cool to see a bit more of the geography of the place.

Same! It’s a weird island because it seems quite big on the show, but is quite small in reality.

There was an early settler family on the island in the early 1800s who seemed to suddenly start buying goods on the mainland with gold coins. They seemed to have a large number of these gold coins. Personally, I believe that that family found whatever treasure there was and thats all there was to find. Any treasure is long gone, but the TV series is fun to watch.

Yeah, I’d have to agree. With all the modern technology that exists - if there was a treasure it would have been found years ago. The island is pretty small - so it’s not like there are a lot of spots to dig.

I love to visit Oak Island. Some of the Islands on Lake Erie are somewhat similar. One are I went to visit was a walkway in Huron, not far from Sandusky. When we first arrived there I toured the area. They had this concrete Boardwalk that lead up to the lighthouse. It was cloudy as well but not too cold. I hope that you will get a chance to return to Oak Island resort in the summer. Very great video.

We do not have basically any Moose in the Mainland as you will need to go to Cape Breton for that as we did see one cruising the trail and if you sneak on the island i am going to in off season with my Metal Detector on the beach but guessing private property signs may hit you watching now and wow you made it i am shocked great job...

I saw “beware of Moose” signs everywhere on my drive, but now that I think of it … they disappeared just after Halifax. There is a museum on the island, just after the causeway … so you can get up there - but just be aware that there are a lot of private properties which extend almost everywhere beyond that main road.

Always thought the island looks like a baby elephant, when viewed as a map or from a satellite shot above.
