Interesting, geeky, or just plain fun videos about all things saxophone from the perspective of one of the USA's premiere saxophone shops. GetASax is about quality, so we're aiming for Hi-Fi audio and video. Be sure to watch in HD and listen with good headphones if you can. We'll do product reviews and comparisons, 'how to' videos, spotlights on rare or interesting saxophones and mouthpieces, and answer some saxophone FAQ's along the way.

We often get asked what the best way to clean your GS mouthpiece is, and the good news is that it is very easy! Often ligatures can scuff the mouthpiece and overtime mineral deposits will start to gunk up the mouthpiece . This can make your mouthpiece not play the way it should.
For a basic cleaning to remove scuffs and small mineral deposits from your saliva, all you need is a magic eraser, which are easy to find at most supermarkets or you can order off of amazon.
All you are going to do is get your magic eraser damp and start to scrub the mouthpiece. Make sure to be gentle and don’t scrub the table or the side rails. Also, avoid boiling water or harsh soaps.
You can also use this method to clean your ligature if you like!
For a more in depth cleaning to take care of large mineral deposits you will need a soft brush (not pointy at the end) and some foaming CLR or white vinegar.
Cover your mouthpiece with the CLR or white vinegar and let the mouthpiece soak in the material for 5min. Then, before you rinse, scrub the mouthpiece with the cleaner still on.
Then when it seems properly scrubbed, rinse and let the mouthpiece dry. Once it is dry if there are still mineral deposits you can repeat the process again. It is not necessary to use hot water or strong soap in this process, unless for some reason you love the taste of soap!
This process will keep your GS mouthpieces looking and playing new.

Introducing: The GS Supersonic
มุมมอง 3K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
The GS Supersonic is an extremely precise copy of the 50's hard rubber Dukoff Supersonic - my favorite mouthpiece that most people have never played. It plays insanely great. The Supersonic, sold under the 'Zimberoff House of Note' brand, is bright like a Link Early Babbitt, but with a nicer feel, a more complex, fat core, and a certain extra magic. So if you've been looking for something brigh...
Rare Saxophones: The Couesnon Monopole Low A Alto

From the GetASax collection comes this rare Low A Couesnon Monopole alto, just fresh from overhaul by Matt Stohrer and playing its best. These have a uniquely haunting tone- lyrical and centered with a delicate beauty- and beautiful design, that combines to make them the best ‘lesser known’ saxophone (at least in the USA) that I know of. Enjoy!

Wow! Will you do a selmer soloist copy?
I've had good vintage C melody pieces, but they're rarer than the horns...a Conn Eagle from the post-metal-ring era and a rare NY Woodwind model '36. Neither sounds like this though. My all-time-favorite C melody pieces are _tenor_ pieces...a white lucite Buescher from the 50s and a Connétable Swing with a small oval chamber (it barely fits on tenor!).
TOO SWEET!!!...WHAT A TONE!!!
Gorgeous modern soprano sound, clear and clean review.
Thanks for your review. I want to know the name of the song that you've played. Thank you so much!!!
I've been watching several videos on this subject. In my opinion is the straight and the curved neck sound really nice through the register. The curved soprano sounds a bit tinny in the higher register. I've only been playing the tenor sax for a short time but when I'm ready I'm going to go with a soprano because it's in the same key also. ☺️👍
Amazing "sound kitchen" excursion! Thank you SO Much! Subscribed.
Outstanding review and great playing. Hope you are writing and recording.
Expression makes the difference. YDS is dead sounding without. If you can’t play like that in tune go with YDS
My brass ligature kept leaving green stains on my GS slant so I cleaned up the inside of the ligature and sprayed it with clear polyurethane. No more green stains!
Can you also use the CLR to clean up deposits on regular HR mouthpieces, or is that not recommended for hard rubber?
Yup!
yes very helpful got all this stuff and don't know how to bring it together ..
Yep. I sold mine.
Just got a used one for much less than a 120. I fitted an alto neck and mp and use the alto neck strap. Added and mounted a rechargeable battery. Figured out the controller out setting in the app. Configured SWAM on iOS. It now replaced my EWI, AEROPHONEs and WX controllers. This is my daily driver.
I was literally just about to email you asking how to clean them and boom you dropped this vid! I’ll try it with white vinegar but my mpc is very stained, hope it works … will report back …
Keep us updated!
Thanks!
Very helpful, thanks!
Hello thanks for the video but I have an issue, when I start to record I hear only the first 2-3 notes of the sax, later on the quality is very bad. Do you know how can I solve it? I use garageband on the mac and scarlet 2i2
How much ?
I’m interested

It is the player not the gear 😉
Gorgeous tone!
For me, it's the King Zephyr tenor from the 40's. It's the closest thing to the sound in my head. The Zephyr Special in particular is both visually and sonically stunning! The added connection to saxophone/jazz history really does influence my playing.
This sounds truly warm and lovely. Unfortunately, gig jobs have dried up or changed after the pandemic, and it's a hard time to be a sax seller and a great time to be a sax buyer. Minty SBA'S that used to go for $10K quickly are now $8,500.
If you have any minty SBA's for $8,500, or $10,000 for that matter, please contact GetASax here and we will buy them. www.getasax.com/sell-or-trade-us-your-saxophone/
never use distortion onn sax it sucks.Hear that breath distorted ...Y a that sucks.Don't believe me try when your playing with a small or large group it sucks .
Sax players !use a cheap preamp before any guitar pedal you may chose.Don't use the adapter you will thank me . your cables cost money and the di cost as much as the adapter.
I love what you’re doing Tyler. You guys are absolutely breaking new waves with your 3-D printing technology and the accuracy isunmatched. But really I wanted to just come on here and say that you somehow someway managed to increase your physical beauty tenfold with the new haircut. I don’t know how you do it, but you appear to get younger every time I see you. You sexy beast you lol Now, how much of a discount does that get me? 😘
Purchased one of these a few months ago and its the absolute best mouthpiece I've ever played on. I've owned some really expensive vintage links and my Reso just blows them out of the water.
There is a much larger difference when you try these necks in solid silver (not silver plated). Yamaha puts a clear lacquer on their solid silver necks. I have these necks in solid silver (V1 and E1) for both tenor and alto. I use the V1 (solid silver) for my mellow mouthpiece (it puts more sweetness, volume, and focus in my sound) and I use the E1 (solid silver) for my brighter sounding mouthpieces (the E1 sounds much better to me with the brighter sounding mouthpieces). I have the Yamaha 875 tenor and the Yamaha 875 EXII alto. The solid silver definitely adds very noticeable depth and spread to the tone and it seems I get more dynamics in volume from the solid silver necks (especially the V1). If you are a classical saxophonist, you would probably prefer the Yamaha C1 neck... it's more focused and the darkest sounding of these necks and easiest for intonation... the E1 is a little easier for the low notes and also has great intonation. I actually think the V1 has great intonation, but when you listen to the C1 neck, you hear the greater focus and that's why it is easier for beginners or advancing players. Yamaha supplies the E1 neck on their 875 EX tenors and they supply the V1 neck with the 875 EX alto and also the Custom 82Z alto and Custom 82Z tenor... it surprises me that classical players will use the V1 neck... I think they they haven't tried or know enough about the other necks. There is an art in creating your setup. I like having more than one setup for different situations. If you are looking for more warmth or more brightness or more depth in your sound, it is very much worth trying these necks before trying a different saxophone. If you have a Yamaha 82Z sax, you could definitely add some depth to your sound with the E1 neck.
Reso a Beauty
I prefer the SuperSonic. Sounds great and powerful! Nuff said.
I did too. I just was unaware that it was such a powerful and bright piece. I always thought it was very dark similar to like a Dukoff Stubby. I guess you learn something new every day huh. Question for anyone out there was the supersonic made by Dukoff because I know it also had the name Zimmeroff on it correct. Also, was the original supersonic the same mouthpiece that said”house of note” or something like that on it
@@seanmullins7009I have one and it plays way better then my dukoff (crystalite).
Can you upload a video editing the sound with this option with 2 microphones please, with all the details.
I’m impressed by how great each of these sounds and how different the are from each other.
Great! I have a Gs slant 6 and have a sound somewhere between Charlie Parker and Joe Henderson. Couldn’t be happier. I have one question though: is there a selmer soloist copy on the way?
The GS II sounds dark to me. what vintage piece is that based on? I have 3 of your pieces already and the all play great!
Complimenti
Gorgeous sound and playing!
Very nice sound...Thanks
You won't hear low A on this clip - even though the piece is in concert C. It would be gratuitous to the real point of having low A: it changes the tone character of the whole horn in a unique way.
I generally use a bell mic. Is the setup any different from other pedals I use?
Tip opening in the video? Medium or large chamber? Thanks!
where did you get tjhe backtrack? nice reverb gadget
Thank you for this
belle vidéo, mais quelle configuration du Daw pour entendre l'effet de la réverb ?
Tyler --- how does the Ishimori stack up to the Yani bronze/silver tenor -- any thoughts or differences. Great videos! Especially getting into the recording side. Best regards
I think that the Ishimori feels a lot more flexible and open than the Yani tenor's
Wow...great sound!.....I changed from a straight soprano and love the curved soprano much more, because you can hear yourself better and have much better control over the sound...
I love that deep, breathy tone you have. Very Ben Webster.
I love my Martin tenor and alto the tenor is from1954 the alto was made in 1949 like me . I got the tenor from a pawn shop in Brooklyn for 120.00 she was broke, had a big dent on the D key but there was just something about her that drew me to her. I had a friend who played alto who told me to take here up to a guy on 48th street, when he saw her he said " this is a great horn it's a Martin a poor man's Selmer ",I can fix it give me a week. I love the lush sound and the American craftsmenship of these horns.
