LOUIS III: A next-generation pop star, being gay in Saint Lucia, and the less clothes the better
This week we're joined by singer, songwriter, pop and dance music star Louis III. Born in South London with Saint Lucian heritage, in this episode we discuss Louis' rise in the music industry, and how it feels to discover your sexuality and come out under the gaze of a fan base. We look at the evolution of a pop career from writing music about girls to writing music about boys, and the challenges that come with holidaying in Saint Lucia, a place extremely close to Louis' heart, when you have to explain to your boyfriend you can no longer kiss in public.

    One of the things I found so refreshing about Heartstopper was that, seemingly, the actors individualities, more or less, matched the characters they portrayed. For my entire life (I'm 60) it has only been "brave" straight actors playing gay roles. It gave Heartstopper an authenticity that we've never seen before.

    Like the US, UK and other 1st world countries, there are places in SLU where being gay MAY get you in serious trouble (Southern areas) BUT Just like those 1st world countries, there are places in SLU where you can most definitely be out and proud. We have our very own Pride March and week where we walk PROUDLY on the main streets and of course there will be homophobes but we aren't arrested or attacked physically. The sodomy laws have been here since the British/French brought them to the island when they ruled! They didn't last (because we're now an independent island) so there is hope.❤💖

    It's been 36 years since I came out to my parents, and they have both died in the last couple of years. I had a wonderful relationship with my dad in the last decade of his life, but since he died, it's been important to remember how hard it was to come out to him and how much he failed to support me at that time. I know he was doing the best he could, but his reaction hurt me, and it's important for me to own that and remember how it affected me for many years, even as I remember how lucky we were to find our way back to love later.

    I am not familiar with Sam Morris's work. Nor is he my type, even though he is good looking! So I kind of stumbled into this video, initially being triggered. I have a love-hate relationship with adult content creators. Because just like those grindr hookups, they also scratch that itch without ever feeding it. I do struggle with shame, body image issues and it is unthinkable for me to project myself out there like that. It must be mind numbing. But Sam also explained a lot of things beautifully well, especially after the 35 min mark where he gets into the psychology of us queers. I have to say, thjat I agreew that everybody in our society is homophobic, but only within the context of our culture. Before christianity, queers where revered and celebrated. I do wonder how fathers in a different culture would emotionally bond, even celebrate having a queer son.

    Gay men will always be unhappy. They want a conventional relationship but are too chickensh*t to actually commit to it. Open relationships are used as an excuse for freedom when they really just represent an unfulfilled partner and laziness. There is nothing complex about loving another human being. Gays just tend to love themselves more and are always trying to find better. they equate love with sex so the cause is lost immediately. Not to mention anything over 40 is considered ancient and undateable unless it's a financial arrangement. Love is just simply not taken seriously, it's treated more like an accessory. Stop me when you find the lie.

    Brilliance! This discussion is inspiring. Thank you for sharing with us. My experience is also that many of us gay men do not understand who we are [underneath our masks and callouses] and what we need [basic human needs]. We relegate ourselves to anonymous and compulsive sex, because we do not understand that we have instinctual and nonnegotiable human needs for emotional intimacy and vulnerability. While physical intimacy, like drug use, can bring pleasure, it also distracts us from our craving for the deeply satisfying feeling of emotional trust, intimacy, and vulnerability. Our layers of complex trauma [due to systemic homophobia] and the dearth of models of healthy homosexual male relationships, leave many of us desperate to connect to others, platonically and romantically, and clueless as to how. Active participation in therapy continues to be some of my best life choices. Best to all on the journey to understanding and loving ourselves.

      No he did not! Our sexuality is given not made. The ‘purpose’ of homosexual men, is to find (equivalent to mating in the straight world), bond and, as with most humans, find love with another man. That can be severely restricted by the instinctive and intuitive sense in a forming gay man, that a father rejects his particular variety of ‘maleness.’ Let alone what is learnt from culture and society. This can give rise to profound internal shame in gay men. This inevitably can play into the way they split who they are from what they do sexually. I know. My father adored me, loved me. No matter what. I at 76 now I know that for all his faults, he got one thing, the only thing that mattered, absolutely right.

    • @eeetee792
      @eeetee792 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@joekelleher9761 there's no evidence of gay gene anywhere in legitimate science. The existence of bisexual orientated people suggests a choice factor in sexual arousal. Generally homosexual people have a complex for love from the same sex parent and/or early sexual abuse from a same sex person. Therefore most actual scientific evidence suggests that homosexuality is formed from experiences rather than an innate genetic disposition. The "born that way" is propaganda not science.

    I am no prude, but I understand why reserving the mask of the sexual self to intimate moments is considered decent and a decisive factor when choosing a friend or a partner. It’s been like this for millennia. It’s a human nature, not a construct of some cultural trend that will fade away from the social fabric anytime soon. Therefore making a decision to expose that mask publicly (and monetise on it) will always be considered indecent. Of course the most intimate self that you expose becomes the most fluorescent part of you that outshines all the other traits of your character. It becomes the most interesting thing about you even though pornography has been normalised nowadays. Sam’s unawareness that people would not treat him decently while he’s making money being indecent only shows how immature he is (not wanting to call him silly or stupid). This is in response to the statement made at 4:18 Why would you even allow yourself to be this delusional? It only shows a lack of common sense and explains his victimhood. In the remaining 40mins of this interview (yes, couldn’t be asked to finish it) I’ve not heard a single interesting or surprising thing from Sam. I also don’t buy into this Erotica vs Porn sale technique to elevate his craft to something it doesn’t have to be elevated to. If I’ll call a commercial porn an art, how would you even approach building your case against that view. A less profound work was called art. His mannerisms of using “like” as a coma in a sentence is really suiting as well. I’m not buying into this intellectual side of him, I think it’s a self-preservation tactic and I wish him ALL the best, but I’m worrying a bit that his story is not going to end well.

      Or you could live the life you want to lead and let Sam lead his. His work helps and entertains some people and makes them consider their own erotic journeys, and for some people his work is irrelevant. I’m not sure why you think you can make a final determination on behalf of everyone else.
