This is a really wonderful interview. Jakes career must have been like a rocket to the moon for him. He got to the moon full of stardom but then that burst of energy fades with most bands but then you ultimately end up back on earth. I'm glad he's settled in the UK, i think it's a more normal atmosphere here than the craziness that's going on in the States. Being famous in a gay world isn't always what you think fame will deal you in the real world. I totally understand how he feels about how difficult it is to make new friends & how everything has changed so much. But Jake if you're reading this you are so not alone in feeling that way. Covid really kicked the hell out ofthe community & now we have the internet too with social media & hook up sites. The world was so different before the internet & Covid. It was much freer & you had to go out of your home if you want to meet new people. Cruising was in our genes cos we were our own shop window & if you wanted guys to come into your store you had to make sure your shop window was appealing to other shoppers who might then come in. Now that we have apps to meet people we show off absolutely everything we have in our shop window but without having to have a shop to run anymore. So guys don't need to cruise anymore like we used to. Guys don't meet as we used to. You see it any pub or club dancefloor, half the people are on their phones trying to find your profile rather than coming & saying hello. It's quite sad really buy you can't turn back time. But like I said before i think about 80% of our community feel exactly the same as Jake as him. He's still greiving the loss of someone he loved too which sends anyone into a whole new space of loss & needing answers to questions you never thought you'd ever ask. It's what we humans do cos we have emotions & it's totally ok to feel that way. Time settles you out to feel more able to move on but the greiving process can last three or four years until it doesn't hurt so much. You have to give yourself time but when you're in limbo with your career you'll naturally gonna feel down even more. Plus the band breaking up is another real loss for him. He seems to be in a relatively good place now but being a star is no easy life. He has to feel well proud of his successful career so far. They made a lot of great music & gave a lot of joy to millions of people. Personally, I think Jake should pursue more acting work. He's a great actor & film or TV work has so many different avenues he could persue. He'll be fine though, he's not done yet. I think he's still got the best years of success to come for him. Time will tell but good luck to him! ;@)
Hands down, one of the best interviews I have seen in a long time. Thank you, Jake, for being so open. Jon, perfect touch on the interview. We always look for answers and sometimes there really are none; just the raw emotion of life, happy and sad, that we must learn to live with and keep moving forward. When Jake ask the question, regarding his break up and the death of his ex, “has this changed me?” Acknowledging that it probably has changed him, but not fully knowing yet how. That was deep. I thought about my own life and all the experiences that have changed me; often when I wasn’t asking to be changed, I thought I was in a good place. Nonetheless, we are changed and have to deal with it. I guess that’s growth. Maybe?
When Jake was explaining how he loves people but needs a lot of time alone I just knew he had to be a fellow Libra... never related to anything more. I also found it comforting to hear how it can sometimes be intimidating to break into a social group of gay men because it's the exact same for me as a lesbian. Loving this pod
I’ve loved Jake forever.. He’s so fun and is sweet and talented.. I’ve crushed on him .. I miss Scissor Sisters so much.. I’m sorry he’s a Bravo fan.. I saw him on Watch what happens Live, Andy should have spent more time with him rather than concentrating on The Housewives. I’m happy to see an interview with him. I know what it’s like losing a dog, it’s the saddest.. Losing a loved one as well. It’s so good he’s had the time alone though, it’s healthy. I appreciate how open he is and wish him great happiness..
Totally resonate with this... as a gay guy in my 40s now having had the fun parties at rje joiners arms, got the career. The house the car etc... I'm now just sat here at 43 with a cat watching a podcast on the sofa wondering if that was it... 🤷🏻
Jon. Yet another cracking podcast! Thanks to Jake. Incredible and raw. And yes I was brought to tears . What an insight. I confess to not being a Jake Spears ( Scissor Sisters) " fan". Not for me.. Oddly a few of my straight friends, ( back in the day!) would be caught singing a Scissor Sisters song! Jake: really peeling back the layers from life in London to the loss of a loved one...a soulmate. This is another listen to again and again to absorb all aspects of the " interview". Jon, your skill in getting your guests to be intensely honest and to help us navigate life . If I may Jon, could I " suggest" future guests from the world of sport. Rugby, Football.... perhaps young Jake Daniels?... Also Russell Tovey would be amazing! His career and Art. The film ' In from the Side" had an enormous impact on me. ( And again one " gay" film my straight friends really got. So again the lead actors, Alex Lincoln and Alexander King together would be amazing. They have great chemistry. So again Thank You! Fantastic channel. ❤👌
Really great interview Jon. Jake is such a lovely guy, so down to earth, with a fascinating life/career story, & would be a great dinner party guest I am sure, with his amazing stories. Jon 5 ⭐'s again for a great show! Smashing it out if the park, in my book well and truly hooked on your podscast now! 🫂🤍🙏
All Gay men must have their Gay men friends group and all the LGBT people must do the same 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️ It is important to be with people like us, to be around other Gay men and create Gay friendships inside our Gay community between us ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿 In the same way that straight men and women have their women or men friends group. In Europe in general we don't talk to "strangers" really. Like, I've been going to the same gym for years and seen the same guys for years and nobody ever talked to me and I never talked to anyone, not even greeting. :D And I totally feel like a pervert if I'm checking out guys cuz it's totally not acceptable here.
How can you interview him and not know anything about his musical?? I've already got my tickets for NYC after seeing it 3 times in London. Tammy Faye has an amazing score.
I am a bit confused….Jake was slagging off London (for many of the right reasons in my opinion) and yet he still wants to settle there….. I like him, and yet he seems so full of contradictions…. A true libra perhaps?!!!
Oh, and I lived in London for 2 years. Gay men do check each other out in the UK and Europe, it is just so much more subtle and demure, dare I say sophisticated! Generally speaking, we Americans can be a bit “extra” in just about everything and it doesn’t translate well in the UK or Europe. As Americans, they understand that, otherwise we would be considered “nutters” in the UK.
"What are you gonna do, you just have to dodge." What an angel. And the part where he was tearing up had me tearing up. Great interview, great person.

Great interview!! Loved it 🙏 Touched on so many universal concerns we are all experiencing.

I love NOLA. Go for Southern Decadence or Halloween, which is usually a 3 day event. Bars open 24/7, its a massive vibe and the people are fantastic.
