I just randomly found this video and am stoked that its in MB. I stop at Fairford every time I go up hwy 6 and all I ever catch there is drum

Pike get such a bad rep for a keeper fish cuz of the Ybone and the slime. I do the same thing but am out of practice hence why I'm here, way better than 5 fillet method, So much waste doing it that way. Only thing I do with my fish is I bleed them from a stringer and I've always noticed the meat is so much whiter and tender. And it makes cleaning so much less messy.

Why dont you bleed the pike?

The big ones are fine to eat. These are thin fish. The little ones are not any more flavorful or tender. If you don't like eating drum, no worries. It is one of my favorites.

Had that happen to

Two days ago, last day of season, got on two jakes with hens. Tried to call but they would only come so close then go back. Tried a decoy, they came closer but still went back to the hens. Noticed a guy set up about 300 yards down the field set up a blind right out in the middle. I thought that ain’t gonna help me or him. I kept trying these jakes but nothing worked and I noticed this guy was just watching me the whole time with binoculars. I finally decided to make a move on them and when I did he came out of his blind and pointed his gun at me and f’ing fired. Turkey’s ran off. I hid behind the hill because wtf. When I looked to see if he was coming for me he was packing his blind up and ran the f out of there. I called the police and dnr but he already flew out of there, I had no good description of him or whatever vehicle he was taking. So he got away. Now I’m going to be reluctant to go back out to that public spot and I will always be looking over my shoulder. That guy is asking for serious trouble.

Excellent video ! Try grinding the Y bones in a food processor,add seasoning,make patties,flour them and then fry them.. you won’t ever throw them out again, trust me ,they are excellent !

The slot size or size limit is not general to all of Ontario. Eg. in Zone 16 there is no size limit on Pike. Zone 5 on the other hand does have a size limit.
