FANTASTIC KAYAKING APP AND A GREAT WATCH
Nice review thanks, where did you buy from? I didn’t think available in UK yet?
You must have missed it near the end when I talked about this. I got it from Spindrift UK but you must pre-order if you want one for September unless you're very lucky. Check out the last 15 minutes of the video 👍
A boat on the water selling ice cream! I'm on the way out the door, kayak on my back, immediately! That structure overhead at 30:30 looks very interesting btw.
Thought you would like the sound of an ice-cream boat (me too) That bridge has a story behind it because when it was first built, they cut some corners and it collapsed But that was a long time ago.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Whoa! Sounds bad. Yes, there's also a boat that goes around the archipelago in summer handing out free drinks of one of my favorite sodas - but it's never found me on the water. Sad!
@AirOnTheWater That's not good but hopefully it will find you one day 🤞
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Hope is what keeps us going!
@@AirOnTheWater Not just hope, ice cream too Hehehe 🍦🍦🍦🍦
That was really interesting thank you. What an amazing sky - absolutely beautiful.
Thank you, and yes a beautiful day.
Where is the motor ?😅
If you want a motor for this kayak you have to buy it separately.
👍,nice boat. God bless you
I have never seen this kayak, looks really good!🙌
There new. 👍
The quality and details are levels above the x500. If only there were a sit in dropstitch kayak of that quality. I'll be interested to learn how it compares to the Pakayak. The seaeagle might suit you even better
Perhaps ! One of the reasons I wanted this is for its hard construction and travel ability But also for the rare days when the sun's out so I can put the seat back and lay down. To be honest, if she handles like she's meant to, and I can't see any reason why it shouldn't after watching Cliffs and Kens review, then I can see myself using this boat a lot more than the PakAyaK (But we will have to wait and see what happens on Saturday when I take it out for the first time) Also yes David the quality is excellent, and did impress me
Nice overview George and congratulations on the new kayak! It looks quite promising. As you noted, looks like quality footrests, and I can attest to all the pros of having a really light kayak handy in many situations. I must say I really like the layout - that's a really good-looking kayak. In some ways somewhat similar in looks to a SUP as you alluded to. Probably the carry handle in the middle that makes me think of a SUP. Bungees look good. It all looks really good simply. Hope the seat turns out to work well and that you like the kayak on the water! Welcome to the world of the light kayaks 🙂
It's funny in a way because I told myself I would never buy another small lite kayak again because the one I had before just couldn't handle the slightest breeze that's why I got rid and picked up the X500 however when I spotted this and noticed it was a hundred percent drop stitch I thought that will be great. As for the yak yes it looks like a SUP with a tube around the side of it lol But it does look beautiful and the colours really pop out.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Indeed! I imagine as well that the full drop stitch should make a real difference. Hope it works well on the water! My guess is it will, within reasonable parameters.
Yes not a class 3 White water boat lol
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Hehe, probably not, unless tou want to be using it as a bathtub 🛁😜
@@AirOnTheWater Haha
Great vid very thorough with the review, look beautiful close up looks tough as nails too! Cant wait to see it in action.
You and me both! Matey 👍
Like you mine has just arrived today and look forward to getting out on the water on the Stour, Christchurch
Hope you have a great time 👍
Nice looking bit of kit. Loving the graphics
Thanks 👍 yes the colours really pop
Nice with company and seems like a great stretch to paddle with those trees. Completely unacceptable and seriously dangerous with the youngsters throwing rocks. Glad you weren't hit. Would have been reported to the police immediately here.
Yes I just don't understand kid's who would do something like that, they think it's funny, however considering the size of the rock and the height of the bridge if it had hit my head it could have been bad. Yes a nice spot, made a change.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Yes, that's not just irresponsible, it's criminal. Glad you were ok.
@@AirOnTheWater Thanks 👍
What a lovely river and congratulations on showing amazing restraint
Believe me it wasn't easy. Yes it's a nice river but unfortunately not very long, from were we started about 2 miles in both directions. However, very beautiful so I will be going back.
Thanks for highlighting our bags, much appreciated, enjoy your adventure.s Cheers Lomo
No worries! As I say in the video I have a lot of your gear and I have never had a problem with anything.
Interesting George! That is one surprisingly long dry bag, as you say, but possibly as you say it could work well for the X500 if things don't get too crowded by bringing the pump in the back compartment as well. I'm on the way back from a two day paddling adventure in four locations, will be exhausted once I reach home I'm sure but a great trip 😎
Sounds like a great trip, looking forward to seeing the footage.

Don't put yourself down your video was great. Also you did a great job of getting in and out of the Yak. Thank Louise for watching and if she dose subscribe I will buy her some flowers.
Enjoyed this. Been wondering what it's like down there 😅 expected more sunken barges. What was the current like?
Not too bad, but starts to get stronger 4 or 5 miles farther down. Glad you liked the video 👍
Good mirror you found yourself there, the water. And this version of "Over the rainbow" is a classic.
Yes great day turned into a 12 mile paddle with plenty of sunshine But no ice-cream

Calming video George. 12 miles too! had your Weetabix 😂

Thanks for the sub! I'm glad you liked the video.
I hope you do get to Scotland, I had a great time there in May (no midges) Islands of Arran and Bute are both easy to get to with lovely sheltered water to paddle on. Arran has a lovely campsite at Lochranza. But you need to book ferries and campsites. Another boat, you've got my collecting problem. I know of a good x500 with only 2 careful owners, just saying :)
lol... I'm after a white-water yak next as I have found a white-water centre 3 hours away but unfortunately, they don't hire out boats so you need your own. As for Scotland I'm definitely going back next year But this time I'm not planning anything.
That sounded quite bad George! The wind battering your mic! Nice vid mate 👍
Tell me about it matey took nearly 3 times longer to get back lol
Hello. Thank you for another nice video of the River Hull. We managed to paddle there on Wednesday in perfect conditions. Really shocked about the brick throwing incident in Selby. I think you should report it to the police, they could have killed you! Absolutely awful. Re, your trip to York. We did the trip from Bishopsthorpe - brilliant day out. It cost £5 to launch and there are spotless toilet and shower facilities. Plus a cafe serving food and drink overlooking the river. Excellent coffee and food. Lovely people on the site. Launch ramp and parking right next to it. We paddled towards York against the current which was quite strong due to heavy rain a few days before.. But this made it nice and easy coming back. And there's an ice cream boat on the river 😊 but it was closed mid week. Took us 1.5 hours to paddle to Lendel Bridge and 45 minutes to get back - 7 mile round trip. Hoping to go again next week and maybe the current won't be quite as strong.
Glad you liked the video, thanks. Yes them kids were so bloody stupid, just glad they missed. Good to hear you had a nice time on the river on Wednesday, also thanks for the info about York I will check that spot out. 👍👍
I had a cockpit clamp bust in half on my Pak out in the bay. I took on a little water furiously paddling back to beat low tide. All good anyway, they're sending me a complete new set. Looks like I'm taking the Sea Eagle out in the meantime. Best wishes for your new boat, looking forward to seeing it. Enjoy.
Sorry to hear of your bad fortune, and hopefully it won't be long before you get the new clamps. Glad you liked the video 😁👍

I will check
Thanks for the video! I just wanted to share a few thoughts. Kayaking is fantastic because it allows people to experience 'Blue Spaces' in a unique way and offers a variety of disciplines. However, it can be dangerous if not done correctly. As @davidpoots8362 mentioned, joining a kayak club is highly recommended. Getting lessons on how to kayak safely and effectively is well worth the investment. Depending on the club, you'll have the chance to try different disciplines and test various kayaks, which will help you choose the right one when you're ready to buy. While inflatable kayaks are popular, they can be challenging and even dangerous for inexperienced paddlers, especially in windy conditions. They tend to sit high on the water, making them more susceptible to wind. Be very careful when choosing your paddling locations and always check the weather conditions. Paddling in groups is always more fun and safer. For any UK viewers, you can find your local kayak clubs here: gopaddling.info/find-paddling-clubs/
Great advice for beginners mate
Glad you think so! Cheers
Good advice George. I recently asked paddlers in our club to raise their hands if they had bought a kayak quickly but needed to upgrade or sell it soon afterwards. Everyone had their hand up, so definitely try first, join a club and get some lessons. That way you will have fun.
Yes I think we all have made that mistake I know I did, after my 20 year lay off I picked up a cheap kayak, used it about 3 times then upgraded, and yes always best to try B4 you buy, so a club or hire is recommended. Glad you liked the post David 👍
You’re absolutely right to say kayaking is dangerous… to your bank account 😂 some great tips. I started with the Tucktec as I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. I did some courses afterwards and found that I enjoyed kayaking even more!
And after your course was finished Then so was your bank balance lol Cheers buddy 👍
@@THE-RIVER-RAT pretty much 😂😂
Good one George! You included a lot of thoughts I've been reflecting on recently. Thanks for the shoutout btw. Completely agree about the risk of "shortly after purchase outgrowing a low cost kayak" and 150% agree about kayaking being a money pit 😂
Thanks Patrik, glad you liked it. A bit tricky this one because I wanted to encourage new paddlers but at the same time warn them, if you know what I mean.
That is so smooth !
Yes I was lucky to get a great day and the water was like glass.
Thats a nice tent. I just wonder if I could fit my large Alice Pack inside as well. I imagine the reason they didnt want the Amazon link included is because Amazon would get a cut a their profits which could add up if a lot of people used it instead of buying directly from them. They are a business so its understandable. Their prices seem good but I wonder why this cost so much more than most of their other tents. Its still a fair deal especially compared to the big name companies. Maybe they use more costly materials to cut down on the weight. I may get one as all my tents are over four pounds and my other gear is heavy too. Just trying to cut out some weight without giving up durabilty or having to take out a loan. lol. People try to tell me I need a different backpack but I have faith in old alice. Ive carried weight in it that would destroy those ultra light packs. Ive noticed like about everywhere else theres a lot of gear snobs trash talking the budget gear for hiking and camping. It causes a lot of beginners to give up on the idea thinking they could never afford proper gear. So I think its great when people take the time to review budget options. Nice review!😊
Thank you and I'm glad you liked it. This is a great hiking tent ultra light and easy to set up and strong and 100% waterproof. I know what you meant there are plenty of snobs out there that think unless your tent cost £500 + it's no good, well I can honestly say their wrong. You stick with Alice my friend and don't let anyone tell you different.

Great can't wait to see it David. By the way Patrik from air on the water has done one. Very interesting.
Since you forwarded the question and posed it to us as well, here's my story with a video as requested. When the river rat calls to action, the paddlers respond. 🙂 th-cam.com/video/tCjcdswEsl0/w-d-xo.html
Love it 👍
I set up a tripod and filmed myself putting the kayak in the water and paddling away once. As it happened, that was the time that my reading glasses fell off the top of it, so when I got to camp and found they were missing, I was able to put my mind at ease that they weren't at the bottom of the river! I would love a cheap drone for shots like that, so the camera could come to me instead of me going back for it, but I have absolutely no doubt that I would dunk it.
Yes, losing gear can be a nightmare. I heard one guy did something similar but someone grabbed his tripod and ran off with it. As for getting a drone if you do then don't forget this info. In the UK, drones used for recreation (non-commercial) with a camera that is less than 250g do not require the drone operator to have a Flyer ID when flying in the Open-Air Category 1. Drones under 250g can continue to be flown in the A1 subcategory23. The regulations that set out the requirements for UAS operations in the UK are contained within the Air Navigation Order 2016 (as amended)2. To fly a drone in the UK, you must display a UK Civil Aviation Authority 'OPERATOR ID' on the body of the drone, fly within visual line of sight of yourself at all times, and not fly higher than 400ft from the nearest point of terrain, and not fly in a manner that recklessly or negligently endangers people or property4. If you’re flying a drone or model aircraft that’s lighter than 250g, you can fly closer to people than 50m and you can fly over them, but you must not fly over crowds5.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT thanks! I really fancy the HoverAir X1, tiny hand-sized drone that does all the fancy follow, circle, etc., and you just hold your hand out flat and it lands on it. Really cool bit of kit. But its height tracking gets confused over water, so bugger-all use for kayaking.
Sorry for the late reply, this comment has only just popped up away I hope you have fun if you get one
Some funt in a speedboat put Moomin and I in the drink in Copenhagen, going as slow as possible with the nose as high as possible to make as much wake as possible. Snarl.
Unfortunately you will always get them bloody speed boats that just wont slow down. Glad you're ok👌
You had me screaming at the screen George, brilliant way to make an important point, I've lost count of how many times I've towed people back to shore, including quite a few with no buoyancy aid, or any rescue equipment.
I knew one or two would be thinking he's bloody wrong there. But as you said trying to make a point. It's dangerous enough not to were a pfd on a river, but like you I have seen people in the sea without one on (Crazy)
Those were some water happy doggodiles!
Oh yes indeedy.

@@THE-RIVER-RAT Hehe. Hopefully! You forgot to mention that out of those 500 pounds or whatever the fine was, half goes to me and you as ice cream tax...
@AirOnTheWater That should be law lol 🍦
I took my first swim on Wednesday! Open water self rescue. Paddle float on the oar for an outrigger. I tried getting back in but kept dumping back out, until I thought to pump out the cockpit first. 😁😅 The PFD made all the difference! I was actually struggling, treading water and trying to pump, until I remembered I could float. My first dump. Good lessons learned. Anyway, great video, stay safe!
Glad you liked it 😀 and welcome to the club, you're not a true kayaker until you have had to swim lol
Fascinating and funny! Surprised you aren't more into sea kayaking though. We've only just got into it. Stemmed from my husband saying he'd always wanted to sit in an eight like in the Oxford/Cambridge boat race. I contacted our local rowing club and arranged for him to go in a boat. The biggest one they had was a quad and they asked if I'd like to try it too so we both went out in it and absolutely loved it. A year later we retired and knew we were going to travel a lot but we would miss the rowing. Tried to arrange outings wherever we went but not usually possible. Which is when we thought about the possibility of a tandem kayak. Tried a session at our local kayak club and loved it so that was it. Have kayak will travel 🛶
Great story, so you will be in the Cambridge boat race next year 😸😸 Nice to hear how you both fell in love with kayaking together at the same time.
Thank you for this, sorry about your wasted journey, but at least you got on the water in the end. Just back from France and now binge watching your videos as I didn't have enough data over there (all those long videos 😅). We've been researching launch places too. Ladybower resevoir was in my notes with a comment thaft it would cost us £10 each to launch 😮 no mention of Saturday's only. We have done a recce of a launch from Bishopthorpe on the Ouse, costs £5 per boat. Proper launch ramp and a snack bar with bacon sarnies and a very nice pub. Person at snack bar who you pay was very pleasant. Can paddle from there into York. Nice easy launch for us as newbies. We're looking at going on the River Hull next week. If you're thinking of going out we'd love to meet up with you for advice/guidance if you'd be willing. Annette & Keith
Hopefully you had a great time in France. Yes Ladybower is £10 for the day and it does look like a great spot for paddling. As it happens I have been thinking about going to Bishopsthorpe (small world) As for meeting up on the river Hull unfortunately I never know when I'm going out, just like my Scotland trip, I just checked the weather then jumped into the car. However, if the weather is good next week then I will be there a few times so if you see me please say hello.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT The weather isn't looking brilliant next week, more bothered about the wind than the rain. We'll try and pick the least windy day and check tide times, not sure how strong the current is on there. If we don't see you will let you know how we get on 👌
@@annettemckenny1893 After looking at the forecast this morning I don't think I'm going to be able to get on the water for at least a week. But good luck, you never know it may change for you. 👍
@@THE-RIVER-RAT We made it today! Cold weather gear on as it was only 13 degrees! The sun showed its face for around 5 minutes. When we got there there were barriers either side of the slip way with great big piles of muck in them, don't know if they were there when you last went? We parked alongside the barrier but it was right next to the road, not sure what they are planning on doing there. Maybe they are making parking spaces 😂 Anyway, it was a lovely paddle, we really enjoyed it. We're going to launch at Bishopsthorpe next week when the weather is better and paddle up river from there.
@@annettemckenny1893 The barrier went up a little while ago it's to stop speed boats and jet skis. As for the parking that's all there is . Glad you got on for a while anyway, hopefully some nice weather will return soon so I can get out again.
Good video - interesting to hear the background! Nice that the "Why do you paddle?" video still has a little bit of impact. 🙂
Yes she said she had been watching them and enjoyed them 👍👍
