The Surprising Similarities in Every FIRE Journey
During our discussions with people through this channel and within our broader network, Seema and I realised that everyone is going through the same roller-coaster ride of emotions, insecurities, myths, assumptions etc that we went through during our journey to Financial Independence and Retiring Early. So in this video I share 3 such common factors that everyone seem to have. Hopefully this will give you confidence that you are not alone and also help in calibrating your plans accordingly.
Hope you find the video useful. Do please share your experiences, obstacles, emotions etc. Would love to hear your thoughts around this and hopefully get the dialogue going about these common factors.

      Yes travel insurance is an hassle, especially when the travel is more than 90 days. Have the plan to make a video around this but want to do a bit more research around this topic before making a video.

    Hi, i am working on different ways of finding/estimating expenses at my retirement, this calculation looks odd, but cant convince. Need your views on this and what is your advised way of finding expenses at retirement age. 25 years ago, our family expenses used to be 1500rs, now 35K, cagr growth of around 10-13%. If i forward look after 25 years its looking somewhere around 14Lacs per month. I included expenses of basic needs only here. Does it really make sense that i need to spend 14Lacs per month on basic needs after 25 years?

    • @abhisektripathy92
      @abhisektripathy92 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You can track and reduce the growth of expenses. It might be that recently due to some reason your expenses increased much more than the past trend. Or possibly you changed cities where cost of living is higher than before. Otherwise 10-13% is a very large inflation number for needs only by any means if you ask me. Not for 25 years, but for last 12 years, my family's expenses are at around 8% inflation and it includes small wants as well. I hope you can find the real reason and work to solve it. Otherwise, I agree that 14L per month sounds ridiculous, though it will be reality in future. may be in 40 yrs if not 25. 😅

    • @TheFIREdCouple
      @TheFIREdCouple วันที่ผ่านมา

      To be honest, 1500 Rs for 25 years back seems to be on lower side. not sure if it includes all expenses or if there has been a major change in your expenses in last few years like kids education, moved to high cost location, house mortgage/rent or big purchases. Would suggest to apply an inflation of 6-8% on current expenses to arrive at your retirement expenses.

    • @TheFIREdCouple
      @TheFIREdCouple 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      My experience has been different. As long as you follow your risk limits and trading strategy, you can have consistent profits through day/swing trading. Of course, for a full-time trading job or to do at a professional level, you need an expert team

    Same goes... Retired at 47... Its been an year or so still getting used on how to spend lot of free time... But multiple benefits... 1) Not to worry about work related issues, timelines, challenges. One major daily worry about work is knocked off... 2) Makes easy to follow a routine to improve your physical and mental health. What to eat, when to eat, when to sleep? More time for exercise, yoga etc etc 3) Earlier not able to meet any real friends, relatives, attend ceremonies etc. now have freedom to meet more and strengthen relations 4) lot of time for travel. Even earlier when used to work, though took holidays, it didnt give much happiness as we spend time in planning holidays alongside work schedules, and think about work during holidays and handle all the backlog once holiday is over. Now we can enjoy holidays to fullest... 5) Can support children and life partner more and spend more time with them 6) Explore other interests like cooking, music, reading or any other hobby... 7) dont need to worry about money/salary as already ensured we have passive income before retiring. But the time and freedom also gives opportunity to make more money in multiple other ways beyond 9-5 job...

    Education expenses have doubled in the last 10 years. planning for child education expenses for the future. 20 Lacs today will be needed 80lacs in 20 years. With this in place, how can a 25 year old can FIRE by age 40. Even after retirement early, he needs to fund child expenses how to take care of dependents? Because FIRE assumes no dependent expenses, own house, protected with insurance after retirement right? As of now I can only have enough savings for a month to create FIRE corpus. Also feels like not more salary growth other than 5% hikes. And no job safety. Things aren't looking great in financial aspects in terms of early retirement. Let me know your thoughts, it helps to think clearly for me.

      Don’t get discouraged. A 25 year old can definitely achieve FIRE by age of 40 with consistent savings and investing. Yes the education has doubled in 10 years and you may need 80lacs in 20 years for that 20 lacs of today. But here are some encouraging SENSEX statistics against those spending parameters: It has doubled in the last 5 years It is 4x from 2014 till date (10yrs) It is 12x from 2004 till date (20yrs) The 5% salary growth can help offset inflation while regular SIP investments help built that portfolio to beat such future costs Job safety and career is definitely something to think about and work on. That is the biggest lever towards financial freedom
