I used to love the Kangaroo tours. Staying up till midnight watching every game wide eyed. What happened to the true game ??? 😮
i think I was there that day, ... that's a long time ago.
Great game!
Go the Bears
Great stuff, not only for the game but the social history, league has changed so much since then it's not funny, not as good imo. Used to watch these ABC games, 6-7pm on Saturday nights, they also had the rugby union on in the arvo!
Where was magic mick?
Great to see, neil pringle come of the bench to play in the game, after long illness on the sidelines,,& losing so much weight, in the unfamiliar role as second row,,he's always a been a tough wholehearted player, love watching him play,,great names back then, on both sides,,& look how packed Leichhardt oval is,fantastic, up the tigers,,John Martin Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
Go eels
Phil Gould's clothes looked pretty clean at the end of the first half....
Aussie forwards got humbled in this match
A golden age .
I was there It was the best day @ the football i ever had
I was actually at this game. It was the first time I ever got to see Parra play, we are up on the hill in that mass of people. I bought a blue and gold flag for $2.50 and waved it like crazy with each try.
Other than Price. How did parramatta win 3 titles with the forwards they had ????
Sterling, Kenny, Ella, Cronin, Grothe..the greatest backline combination you will ever see.
Belmore was a dustbowl by the end of the season being played on every week.
Thanks for the old game, Kenny my all time favourite player...his defence never gets a mention, rarely if at all gets beaten, rarely palmed off if at all, his defence in England tours was amazing
Must be a manly fan who uploaded this because only manly tries are seen
Great game
Attendance posted was only 16,028 though it seems bigger. The corresponding game against Parramatta in 1986 would see Brookvale's still standing ground record crowd of 27,655.
Before he was a professional footballer, Des Hasler, other than being a school teacher, was also an athlete. His 100 metre time was 10.8 in the early 1980s. That's the same time Martin Offiah would later have as his best. And compared to modern day (2024) Manly speedsters, its not too shabby. Jason Saab is a 10.67 over the 100 while we know Tolu Koula's 10.58 is the NSW Schools GPS record.
That was very entertaining. I was lucky enough to attend a game at Knowsley Road, just before it was sadly demolished. Great memories.
Do you have the full state bank big game intro to this game? Can't find it anywhere
No mate just what you see
Ok, well thanks for posting, great to see the old games
Neville Glover was a pratt didnt lije been tackled and also dirty in the tackle
Ray Warren is the voice of the NRL
Another good mate.💪💪
Thanks 👍
80 minutes squeeze into 60 minutes what a game when Tigers we’re at best ❤to who downloaded I had them on video years ago ( bought them 2nd hand stores in Seth Australia!! What a find at $2 each
What a game!! Jez imagine how sore these men were after 80 minutes of that. ! RIP Scott Gale .
Great game it was back then......Rabs a big Parra supporter
PARRA ARE SCUM!! PARRA ARE SCUM!! PARRA ARE SCUM!!
So much gold in these old games Jack, so many sights /plays/techniques that have dissapeared (some for better or worse,) simple, awesome jerseys that often got muddied beyond recognition, fans climbing up on any vantage point they could get to, the sand bucket takka's, the crowd running onto the field after the game, the streamers, confetti and assorted crap on the field, kicks at the play the ball, being penalized for not standing square to the marker, and since the modern era of the scrum where they dont even pack down long enough , all those infringements that teams got penalized for , screwing / collapsing the scrum, loose arm, incorrect feed, failure to pack, head above the ruck, ..legends like Laurie Nichols , always rockin and rollin , boxing on the touch line for the tigers, cameramen running down the touch line following the play, often getting bundled out of play themselves, the field mikes picking up random ribbing , jibes and banter from the crowd, Bill Andersons non stop expert 'commentary box coaching' on why a team is stuffing up and what they should be doing, good stuff mate, keep em coming.
My word,I wish they’d bring back contested scrums.
The scrummage is to contest the ball. Once a knock on was noticed the scrum was put together to decide who’d gain possession. Both defence and offence had opportunity to regain possession. Now it’s automatically handed over to opposing side.
Forget about Fulton's time with Roosters. Just think Fulton Manly
Gees Belmore looks really dusty. Three grade games every week really burns off the grass
Easts were favourites over eels because of Bob Fulton
i swear Mike Eden has played for everyone
Thank you vids good job more 80s footy
What game are you watching
I was up at inford this day go eels
One of the few times the Moose ever showered praise on Parra
Sterling kicking a 2 point field goal AND a forty twenty if it was a modern game ! he doesnt get the credit he deserves sometimes
As a teenager i experienced the real hatred that Manly has a game against Manly in 1983/1984 at Brookvale where the Manly fans would actually SPIT on us regularly the whole 3 hours we were there watching all grades. We know you might hate you might the team onfield but to spit on kids. it sums up Manly supporters perfectly. Even today manly fans will not travel to support their team, it's called part time fans.
Curious which ground this was played at? It didn’t look like the SCG. Was it Cumberland oval or belmore
Sydney sports ground. It was demolished in 1986 and the SFS was built on on it.
Rare to see Cumberland Oval not a dust bowl
Dunno how are nerves survived watching football in the 80s, talk about helta skelta. It was entertaining all the same.
Was there ever a time Bob O’Reilly didn’t look 50?
Great video - but please - can these be uploaded at a greater pixel rate. They are very difficult to view...
I know mate, unfortunately that’s the quality I received it in.
3 great tries to Slippery!!
I was at this game he ran through Craig Coleman every time, I was and still am pissed off at Tugger for that.
This game was almost a farewell to Peter Sterling as well as Pearce. After winning the Rothmans Medal a week later, Sterling would sign with Parramatta until the end of 1992. However, he would play only two more full games after this one due to a succession of shoulder injuries - a problem dating back to the Third Test of 1988 when Sterling damaged his shoulder in the first half and Great Britain beat Australia for the first time in a decade.
that was when Cement when he was with the magpies gave him that hit in early 92 wasn't it
@@adthomp Yes, it was Cement who finally ended his career. It seems clear to me - though I am no expert - that Sterling’s career was doomed when he first injured the shoulder in 1988, or at all events when he did so in the final round of 1990 after 23 minutes and made a hasty return on Easter Monday of 1991.
great to c a bit of bill greentree playing first grade a huge hitter on his day
One of many men Parramatta tried to fix their perennial problem position of hooker in that era. After Steve Edge retired at the close of the 1984 season, the Eels never had a long-term hooker for well over a decade and weakness in the dummy half position was a key reason for their failures between 1987 and 1996
I was 11 yrs old went to this game with a mate from school and was on tv in Jr lap of honour what a day will never forget
