I have an n16 r56 (base model) and i made a cold air intake and cut off the muffler (legal where I live because its not THAT loud at 1.6L, and I had to swap for an S rear bumper), ngk plugs and coils. I swapped out the hood for a scooped S hood, want to convert to a ram air like the AEM intakes. Everything else is stock (not really a lot of other engine upgrade option, n16 hates boost unless I want to replace the...everything) I'm shopping tuning options, then starting on suspension upgrades and a wee bit of weight reduction (already took out rear seat). I do most of the work on it, but it never needs anything but maintenance. Mobil 0-w30 refresh every 3k miles, coolant flush every 20k, spark plugs at 30k miles, spectre reusable 8.25" cone air filter with aluminum box and 4" aluminum duct, both heat shielded. I get 35mpg while I'm commuting and doing door dash. 45mpg driving 100 mile highway rides.

7:10 is an american only problem. In Europe Minis are very common and no one comments about driving one. Most people dont like loud tuned up cars though.

Yes! One of the Mini Cooper videos I've resonated with most over the years! I have a 2009 R56 JCW as well. I wish I bought it before starting a family, as I would have built it to the 9s ages ago 😭 having a family is great of course, but my timing in falling in love with minis was nevertheless a little off... I just wish that I could afford performance parts more often. I'm always stuck just trying to keep up with what's breaking down 😅 I'm actually halfway through completely redoing the coolant system as I write this; started earlier this afternoon, and hoping to finish tomorrow. I've had my '08 Cooper S for 6 years and about 60k miles and its been far more reliable than I expected. There are 3 big things to improve the life of a Mini: 1. Regular oil changes (3-5k miles, not the 10k Mini tells you). 2. Reduce heat. These things run at 220⁰F. Open up that hood scoop, heat shield the turbo, and use your max air button to bring those coolant temps down. 3. If a metal replacement exists for a part that was plastic from the factory, replace it. Plastic doesn't like repeated heat cycling, especially 220⁰ highs and sub freezing lows.

I am currently using 200cel downpipe for n18 right now. Will catless downpipe be much louder than 200cel?
