10 Point Crochet Snowflake Christmas Ornament Tutorial with Pattern Chart
Welcome to Pattern and Craft!
In this video I show you how to crochet this beautiful 10 point crochet snowflake ornament AND I go over the pattern chart along with the stitching so you can learn how to read a pattern chart too! All steps are shown, but there are a couple of slightly tricky stitches so this tutorial is best for someone already familiar with crocheting.
Make your own wintery decorations to adorn the Christmas tree, windows, gifts and more. Make several to create a garland, use them as fun holiday coasters, include them in your Christmas cards...
There are so many fun possibilities ❄️❄️❄️

Materials Used in the video:
• Premiere Cotton Fair #2 fine yarn
Yarn Link: www.premieryarns.com/products/pcottonfr
• Clover Amour 3.5mm hook
Keep in mind these can be made with any yarn of your preference. I find 100% acrylic or cotton/acrylic blends in a sport to light DK weight work well. Other yarns I've successfully made these ornaments with are Premiere Minikins yarn and Yarn Bee Soft and Sleek DK. These ornaments are also great for using up leftovers since they don't need a lot of yardage.

Very cute and easy to follow, thank you for sharing!
Beautiful
Thank you so much for the beautiful pattern and I was able to follow along.
Thankyou, lovely crochet snowflake tutorial. ❄️
Thank you for this tutorial! It's very easy to follow, and the snowflake is super cute!
The on,y way this could be more simple is if she crocheted the snowflake for you! Wonderful tutorial keep them coming!
Wish the pauses were a few seconds longer. Really want to do this. I’m not a learner but am having difficulty seeing exactly where the stitch placements go despite slowing the speed right down. I hope I don’t have to give up because it’s a beautiful pattern. Any help would be appreciated.
That was super sigma !🐷
Super simple tutorial! Thankyou!❤❤❤
I thought it was just me😂 but no it is not an easy tutorial to follow
@@marissaporter-lilly4618 it seems like some found it easy and some found it hard 🙈 I just filmed my next tutorial and for that one I go slower and refer to the pattern chart, hopefully folks will find it easier to follow that way.
this is beautiful. i’m so excited to try it.
💖💖🙏🙏👍👍🙏🙏💖💖
So simple and easy. Thank you!
This is one of my favorite snowflake patterns I’ve tried this year! It’s so easy to follow and the results are beautiful ❄️🤍 thank you! (:
Thank you My snowflake turned out great 🎉❤
Really easy and quick, looks great, thank you
It’s beautiful!!🙏🏼♥️Thanks!!
Love this! A simple and quick project with a great result. Thank you!
Will you post tutorials for the other snowflakes you had in the beginning? They’re all so pretty!
@@AllysonWonderlandDCP I’m glad you liked them! I plan to do more video tutorials and I do have written patterns for more 😁
This blanket is so nice. I am new to your channel I was very disappointed that you didn't show the border instructions I was going to make the blanket but then decided not to because the border really makes the blanket and I needed to see how to do that.
@@kathleenprice7335 I do have a second video that describes what to do for the few rounds that make up the border (basically just double crochet all around the edge and do the same color switch technique as used in the squares) and shows the decorative edge stitch plus 3 other edge stitch options. I hope you try out these fun to make squares and go ahead and make the blanket! You can use the same technique for lots of things besides just this project too.
Beautiful pattern but wish she was a little slower and w stitch placement for us beginners to follow easier.
Hi there I need it slower too sometimes and found changing the speed helps so much. It’s under settings, game changer.
Finally got it after a few tries, now I got it, thank you
? At point 33:22 you comment that you single crochet all around, and yet when you prepare for the join as you go you have only just completed a single crochet on the one side. Yep, I'm confused. 🙃
Yes, you make the single crochets on the current square as you join it. So for your very first square you would single crochet all around as your final round because you are not joining it to anything, it is the square you will join the nest square to. For the next square you make single crochets up to the point where you are joining, then make single crochets as you simultaneously join them to the first square along 1 side, then continue with normal single crochet for the rest of the round. Continue in this fashion, and depending on where you are in the joining process you will join to one square along 1 side or join to 2 squares along adjacent sides. This is how join-as-you-go technique is done, it means join the squares as you make the stitches. I hope that helps to clarify! Let me know if you need further information?
Thank you ... this comment has definitelycured my confusion. 🍻@@patternandcraft
Thank you so much for sharing! I will definitely be making these as a garland for my dorm room!!😊
This is NOT an easy tutorial to follow.
@@DanielDozier-r3s how could I have made it better? What did you find difficult or unclear?
@@patternandcraftThe only thing I would add would’ve been the written pattern on the screen as you’re doing the rounds, if that makes sense. I thought the video was great regardless!
I don’t follow patterns just learn from videos like these and memorize it or save and come back to it. From someone with crochet and knitting background my only criticism is that it was fast. I had to rush to pause a lot. But then realized I could just put on half speed.
I agree - really unclear! ☹️

This is great! I'm retired now so I want to do these crafts.
Thank you sooo much. I have tried 4 other granny square patterns and none are as easy to follow or beautiful as this. I am a self-taught crocheter and have only been doing it about a year and I understood this first go. Your explanations are really well detailed and you take the time to show us exactly what stitches you are working into (or not) 😂 you don't make me feel guilty for using the chain space instead of the stitch. Sometimes it's just too hard hahaha. I can't wait for the written pattern, I will be buying and laminating it for my collection. Thanks again. My niece will love her new blanket 🥰
@@emilydurham5504 I’m so glad you found it easy to follow that makes me so happy!! I’ll let you know when the written pattern is done 🤗

Es muy bonita y muy delicada. Me gusta muchísimo tal como la has hecho.
Stunning stunning 😮
This is so pretty. Thank you so much. ❤❤❤❤

I've finished it and it's so beautiful. Thank you so much for such an amazing pattern
@@rachellemitchell201 that’s amazing!! 😁🤩
Beautiful border stitch
Love your stitches!
😊🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Hi ive just finished making this awesome design . I love it so much. I just have to do the boarder, but want to wait for your one. Is it going to be another few weeks before you post the boarder etc.
@@rachellemitchell201 it will be this Saturday at 6am or the next- wow you are fast!! The border is pretty simple so you can at least get started- 1 round all around the blanket in double crochet with the white, with the corners worked the same as you do for the squares with 2dc + ch 2 + 2dc into the chain space. At the joins between squares you may need to see what works best for your tension- I worked 1dc into every stitch and then at the joins I did 1dc2tog with 1 leg in each corner chain space of the adjacent squares. Then 1 round where you work the skip stitch stitch method first with white ([1dc, ch1 + sk1] repeated all around and working corners in the same way as in the squares) then with tan (worked in front of the white, white folded back) into the skipped stitches, then 2 rounds of plain double crochet in tan (the first round of tan joins the previous layered rounds), then work the edge stitch which I will show in the upcoming video. If you don’t care to do the decorative edge stitch you can just do 1 round of single crochet in tan all around, maybe do 3 stitches into the corner chain spaces to make a slightly rounded corner, rather than the usual 1sc+ch2+1sc. The upcoming video will show this as an option, then I’ll show 2 simple but more decorative options and finally the edge stitch I used which is a bit more complex but gives that picot-like edge.
Thank you so much. Im in nz so maybe Sunday for us. I would post a photo but it doesn't look like I can add one. I find crocheting amazing for my anxiety. I taught myself maybe 2 years now by watching you tube videos
Enjoying your rambling while reviewing yarns. Glad you are learning to knit. I learned crochet as a child, knitting only 13 years ago. I still feel more comfortable with crochet, feel more in control. But i like knitting for clothing rather than crochet. Also a knife holder and continental knitter. I think it's nice to have both in your arsenal. Di you have sensory issues with wool, or are you a vegan? There are many types of wool, or alpaca if its a sensory issue. Dont know your background with wool. I like a lot of the knitpick yarns including comfy and brava. Not tried animation or vividie which are newer. I think companies are always mis-labeling weights of yarn, which is annoying.
@@jeanette6396 glad you enjoyed the video! So wool has always felt scratchy to me so I’ve avoided wool mostly for the texture but then I found out some wools are softer like merino, but when I tried out some Marino I still didn’t like the texture plus I couldn’t take the sheepy smell of it. But I have recently discovered I do like alpaca though. I’m using one yarn that’s baby alpaca blended with cotton and a little yak that’s nice (Haya by Holst Garn). I’m really enjoying learning to knit and finding some yarns lend themselves better to crochet and others to knitting.
Glad you are getting along with alpaca. There are so many blended yarns nowadays that it's hard to try them all. Wool has an elasticity no other fiber has, so maybe blended with cotton, alpaca, etc.would work for you. But i love the sheepy smell! Also enjoyed your review of bamboo yarns, and would enjoy seeing your makes, etc.
@@jeanette6396 thanks! I’ll keep trying different yarns, maybe the one I tried was particularly sheepy haha! I do have 3 podcast type episodes (the ones titled “Creative Show and Share”)now that show my makes, and more to come!
i can hear you very well. thank you for this video!
Gorgeous work! I would like to know how to complete the blanket. Will the border tutorial be coming out shortly? Best wishes!
@@VidiSaki89 yes coming soon! Border and edge stitch options

i want to make the 4 strand round braid to make an eyeglasses cord. How do you calculate the length of thread to start with?
New subscriber here. Beautiful granny squares making a sweet baby blanket.💕
My daughter has just advised I will be a Granny. After much searching, this, is the pattern I've been looking for. Looking forward to your future video and pattern. I can't wait to get started. Maybe you could advise the materials needed. I could shop while waiting. 😉
@@valerieboechler1099 oh wow, congratulations to you and your daughter!! And yes, written pattern and border/edge stitch video coming soon 😄
Love your response...thank you. Do you know the amount of each wool for the project? We have a lovely wool shop in our town, it would be a delight to visit them, and be prepared for the unveiling 😊 @patternandcraft
I can’t find the cirrus , I know you said you can use any yarn. But what brand would be close to your yarn that I could substitute it with? This blanket is stunning!!! You did a beautiful job 😊
@@cindycampbell4994 😊 thank you so much! So the cirrus is available from lovecrafts.com if you do want that exact yarn, you can also use yarnsub.com to find similar yarns, or you can choose any dk/sport weight yarn that you prefer that is soft and preferably machine washable if making for a baby. You could also go with a thicker yarn like worsted or Aran weight if making a throw blanket.
how much yarn did you use?
@@jenniferard6072 I will have to check my notes and get back to you but I think it was 2 balls of tan and 3 of the white.
Beautiful!
