I don't understand why paint over the initial mix
I’ve answered this a couple of times but it’s basically to keep it from flaking off or going bad - the paint and glue acts as a protective layer. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
This project is kicking you for not doing it earlier, keep it up bro
I think it might be! Thank you for watching!
You could paint it a purple colour with a green belly? Give him a big smile too?
He could be a dinosaur sensation, this is a great shout.
If I may, I would like to suggest you reconsider the gold parts. I know gold is pretty much a staple with seraphons, but on warm color schemes it really doesn't do much, it lacks contrast. Especially on the tigrex carnosaur, the gold basically disappears in the yellow/orangy scales. Maybe try a cold color metal, like a silver or a made up one, like a jade green.
This is a great suggestion, thank you! I was trying to keep it cohesive with the rest of my army but you’re totally correct, the gold can get lost very easily. I’ll have a think for my next paint scheme. Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback!
Well, given your MH streak and the size of that beast, Lao Shang Lung comes to mind, for the color scheme... wether the regular or the ashen one is up to your personal taste.
Lao Shan Lung is the OG, and a great suggestion. My only worry is that the scheme would be too basic! I’ll have to have a good long think on how to do it justice.
you have the hands of a toddler and thumbs that look like bigtoes O_o how did that happen ?
Free for you to not have left this comment friend.
I was bitten by a radioactive mole as a kid so my hands have been slowly shrinking to better dig through the mud when I build my burrow in the future. Hope that helps!
Thanks for watching! I just wanted to show my process and share what I’m doing currently in the hobby. It’s not a tutorial so there’s not gonna be tonnes of information. Have a great day!
Congrats on the 1(.31)k subscribers! The dino is sick and I'm excited to see what you put out while I watch your back catalogue!
Thank you so much for watching! I really appreciate it, honestly :)
Hear me out, paint it like our favorite blue boi, lagiacrus
He is the best of us. A Monster they’re too scared to bring back!
paint it like an Orca. Black and white wreckasaurus
That would be an interesting scheme!
You have to paint this big guy like a creature from Monster Hunter, there's so many interesting color scheme and designs in that series!
It’s my favourite game series and one that has been the inspiration for a lot of my models! Thank you for watching :)
I use resin to fill gaps
I didn’t even think of that, UV resin could be a great gap filler. Thank you!
Definitely going back to look at your previous Seraphon videos because I am a big Seraphon and MH fan. What are your color scheme plans for the Dread? Whatever you pick I bet it'll look dope
Thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate it. I’m not sure on a colour scheme just yet, that’s why I’ve asked the Seraphon subreddit and the comments here for inspiration haha.
@@thehobbyheap makes perfect sense. Maybe something big like Akantor or Ukanlos. Or Gogmazios
Hard disagree: mini painting IS the coolest thing in the world (saying this as someone who only discovered it at the age of 40!). Wonderful video. 😊
Haha I think it’s cool as well! I want more people to be proud of their hobbies and for more people to not put others down for their hobbies. Thank you for your comments man, it’s great to have you here!
This was a great find, all hail the algorithm. Question: why spray the basing bits - they looked good ‘as is’ and seems a lot of effort to spray them and then paint them back up.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it! I decided to spray the basing bits as a layer of protection really - at the end of the day it’s still just tea leaves and herbs really so paint and glue will stop any nasty stuff growing on it
That’s a really good point actually, hadn’t considered that !
Fun fact, a 3inch diameter rod can't go inside a 3inch diameter hole. If anyone doesn't believe me, go talk to any machinist or part designer. The reason you have gaps is because you are trying to fit a 1inch rod into essentially a 1inch sleeve. If you had made the holes longer, or the rods shorter, you wouldn't have had a gap unless they weren't aligned perfectly.
I appreciate the feedback! I actually did make the rods shorter but alas, there were still gaps. I’ll keep experimenting and hopefully my next one will have fewer gaps!
Hi great video, how do you set up a camera so it films in front of you and you are still able to work in so fine detail?
Thanks for watching! I actually just use my iPhone, and a phone holder on a bendable arm that I clamp to the desk. That way I can film what I’m doing and change the angle if I need to. Saving up for a much better camera in the future though 🙂
Its a shame i missed it but its far to exapensive before it was cut. You think they will bring him back in plastic?
It was an expensive model, that’s why I wanted to do it justice! Unfortunately I don’t think it will be making a return in plastic but you never know!
nice
These jumps in volume makes this unwatchable
Apologies my friend, I’m still extremely new to video editing. Will double check my volume levels on the next one. Thanks for the feedback!
Awww it's cute.
Put lord kroak on top and kitbash it like a caravan thats what i wanna do but it costs to much
That would be such an epic model!
Milliput, water and an old brush. Gaps easily filled. I’ll paint if for ya. May not give it back but it will be painted.
I’ll give milliput a try next time - I’ll let you fill the gaps if you promise to give it back hehe
You could have used tetrion to fill the gaps ,get tetrion to putty consistency and with a wet brush carefully paint it into the gaps leave for a few hours to dry and presto no more gaps
I’ve not heard of this product but I’ll look into it!
Amazing! Paint it in the style of Far Cry Blood Dragon.
That would be so cool! I loved that game.
Good luck painting it😁
Fun video and thats such a cool unit. I feel like at that point they cant be called a "mini" anymore but there more of a "small"
Thank you so much for the kind words! Yeah I think the word Miniature doesn’t quite suit this guy haha
i have a bottle of thick gorilla glue that came the same way.
What an absolute unit of a dinosaur. I'm interested to see how you decide to paint it up!
Can’t wait to see it painted, p.s those Saurus warriors looks awesome!
th-cam.com/video/tyWjQ_QOiEM/w-d-xo.html even the soap water smiles😃
Well, i mean, of course the gel superglue did that, it's a THICC gel, you need to shake it a lot and make sure it's in the top. Trust me, it will not fall back down to the bottom
Haha THICC with two C’s. After the hacksaw betrayal it was just another spanner in the works 😭
for pinning i saw someone who put paint on the end of pin when it was in one of the pieces to mark the model
I’ve also seen this done but for smaller pinning methods - wasn’t sure how it would work for larger pins but I’ll give it a go next time for sure!
What arw those Black borders for (In the video)...?
I’m not really sure, I’m still pretty new to video editing so it wasn’t intentional. I’ll look into it for future videos, thank you!
YOOOOOOO
Hahaha my guy 🤙🏼
the gaps are down to your pinning method. you're picking an arbitrary angle to drill, which isn't the same on both parts. its really hard to eyeball it, and there isn't a flat surface to reference a tool to. try drilling your holes a little bigger, say 4mm? that will give you some wiggle room to position the parts properly and avoid surface gaps, and the glue will fill the gaps between the pin and the parts. or you could drill the first part to 3mm, drill the second part to say 5mm, put a little green stuff into the hole and press the pin into it. should give you a perfect fit and avoid some work later down the line.
Thanks dude, I appreciate the feedback! Unfortunately even when I dry fit the parts, they still didn’t fit together properly so I just decided to go for it. If I ever build another enormous resin model I’ll try this method instead, thank you.
Great video. Always fun to come back to a project.
Dude thank you so much for watching, love watching your content too!
great video . I'm glad to see you back! and I can't wait to see your other tutorials for painting MH monsters!
Thanks for watching! Hope to do some more Monster Hunter stuff soon, especially with the amazing Monster Hunter Wilds trailers we’ve been getting.
That looks really cool!! I bet that would make for an awesome Squiggoth with some modifications
Ohhh I used to have a little forgeworld booklet from like 2007 and I used to dream about getting the Squiggoth, what a beautiful model that was!
@@thehobbyheap Sucks that it's so expensive, but I would like to get my hands on the Forgeworld Squiggoth someday
for small gaps like that Liquid green stuff is much easier to use :)
I tried liquid green stuff - and honestly dude they weren’t small gaps 😭
@@thehobbyheap build a few of the larger models, just finished the Tyranid Hierophant and there where some gaps like yours, i could fill it with the liquid green stuff. tube over to the gap and squirt it in. let it dry and give it some more as it can crack. also got the Tau Ta'unar model, that one where almost no gaps. and almost just converted a Lord of Skulls for my CSM from spare parts, had to make the sides completely out of sprue bits and green stuff :D
i also use different glue, when i know there is a gap i use super glue gel, it fills it out more and makes it stronger. for the string trick and to get into things i use fluent super glue it seeps into it.
I want to see this big boy primed up
Soon my friend, very very soon
Ahhh yes, the Riddle of Streel...
One of us talks in steel, the other talks in streel…
By gogmazios this big boi needs to be painted in the skin of the biggest bois Either a dalamadur inspired color scheme or a lao-shan lung inspired color scheme
As someone who played so much Monster Hunter Freedom on the PSP, Lao Shan Lung was always my go to but I just feel the colour scheme for him is so basic, it’s such a shame.
It's gotta be either the Pickle (Which doesn't offer much in way of colouring but maybe you could do it enraged?) Or if you're not willing to do MH then Godzilla for sure
Oooh maybe some red wash in the recesses and a greeney black on top, that could work!
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO! That thing RULES dude, I'm so excited to see the rest of this!
Ahhhh thank you so much for watching!
Dread being this sore
Wise words to live by for sure
Godzilla paint scheme?
👀
Im currently giving it a try. Did you Pin the minis to the Base or did you just glue them?
It depends on the miniature! Most minis I just glue onto the base and then build up the basing material around it. For larger miniatures like my Carnosaur, I pressed it into the still wet leaf mix so I’d know where to glue him down after the base was finished. More fragile miniatures (like resin) I’d probably pin
I guess my question is why bother with a particular mix of dirt and herbs when you're just going to prime and paint it anyway? Wouldn't any sufficiently technical paste do?
That’s a fair point! I wanted to use easily accessible materials and make them go a long way. Tea bags, herbs and coconut fibre are dead cheap and will get so many more bases and dioramas done than a store bought texture paste. I guess it’s about how much you can make for as little money as possible. Plus a texture paste is usually just paint and sand - even with a primer and a paint the little leaves here will show through and look like a muddy leaf littered floor. I hope that helped answer your question dude!
@@thehobbyheap Hey thanks for the response, and fwiw I'm not trying to be a contrarian, I'm actually looking up video ideas for doing some bases for my Star Wars Legion Stormtroopers and came across your video. It's fantastic work, btw, and the end result is excellent. I'm just trying to understand the reasoning as a newbie to basing and, yeah, I can totally see the budget value in doing it this way. It's just that I really like the initial look before it was primed so now I'm wondering if there's a way to maintain that natural look with some sort of binder/glue that won't also make it look sludgy or slimy.
@@simonbelmont0993 I appreciate the kind words, and it was a good question! I didn’t think you were being contrarian at all. Some water down PVA does keep it locked in before paint and priming but for extra security it might be worth hitting it with a matte varnish instead of paint if you wanted to keep the original colouration. I haven’t tried it myself but could be worth a shot!
These look unreal! thanks man!
