Wonderful. Easy, delicious and healthy. Thank you.
I always enjoyed marjoram but have rarel found in recipes. It very nice to discover thru your videos that it is a spice staple in Czech dishes. I am excited to make all these soups. Thank you for sharing and your channel.

Where's my slice with butter and powdered sugar?
I guess there is nothing else to do but follow the recipe and have a go at it. :)
@cooklikeczechs I'll have to make it myself. I use my great-great-great-grandmother's recipe usually, but this is easier. I don't have the love my Bubbie had to put in it. It never tastes as good. You know what I mean. Thanks for the recipe. Your work is wonderful.
Really looks good. One of the things I buy when I a in Czechia. But now I would try it maybe on my own. Thanks for the recipe and nice vid. Happy new year Šťastný nový rok.
Thank you so much. Good luck on the recipe and Štástný nový rok i tobě.
It evolved from other traditional breads all over Europe . It is NOT Czech invention ..
I do not want to argue about it, but all European cuisines were influenced by other European cultures. Using this logic, there is no food in Europe that is truly "traditional." Vánočka/houska has been made in today's Czech Republic since time immemorial. -Petra
So wonderful to see this again. I used to watch my grandmother, Anna Cerveny, make this Hoska bread. I have never attempted it, l am 80 now. We loved it toasted❤
What a beautiful memory to share! It's never too late to give it a try. Toasting it sounds delicious, too. Now it's making me think about French toast! 😄
Zrovna jsem si říkala, jak se to používá. Děkuji za návod :D
Není zač :)
You added the marjoram at 2:08 in the video. What quantity?
The full recipe is in the description. Click on "More" after the title
Hi , it is 1/2 Tablespoon dried marjoram. If are unsure there is a recipe on my blog too. Link is in the video description.
I made linzer torte refering to her video. She is really good cook
Thank you, and I hope you enjoyed your Christmas cookies! -Petra
I'd like to subscribe czech christmas letter by petra and her son. But there was an error in the payment system which only use finger print as password for my credit card (Amex) . Because my cellphone do not recognize my thumb print.. i usually use not thumb but number password. But i cant use it for this system. Next time when you make E-book please consider other credit card system! From petra's fan thank you
The vinegar gives it the cut it needs
Agreed, it is, as you say, the finishing touch. -Petra
Thank you so very much! These are delicious and where a staple of Holiday treats. As my family slowly, shrinks away , we lozt our baker and her recipes. You have given these back to us. Bless you. Merry Christmas from ohio!
You're very welcome! I’m so glad I could bring back something that you had lost. Thank you for your kind words, and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas as well.
This is not a folk Czech tradition more like American
Purpura is Czech, and is quite old-school, and I consider it one of the nicest Czech Christmas traditions. -Petra
I'm so enjoying these videos. You and Honza have done a wonderful job with this Advent email event. ❤🎉
Thank you so much.
Thanks, Petra! When I saw the video, my brain recalled the smell of the purpura. Interesting, how the neural connections work! Tiše a ochotně purpura na plotně voní.. 😊 I see you have barborky on the table. I tried for the first time in 30 years, but forgot to cut them on time, so ours will bloom na Silvestra. 🎄Šťastné a veselé vánočky! 🎄
"You're welcome! It really is amazing how our minds work. I hope you had a Šťastné a Veselé Vánoce as well!" 🎄
I would love to know which herbs and ingredients are traditional in this blend, please. I am recently discovering more of my Czech heritage and enjoy gardening, so I would love to plant traditional plants to make my own purpura. Warm wishes to you! 🎄
There is no one correct recipe, but the most common herbs are for example cinnamon, cloves, mint, lavender or rosemary. -Petra
@cooklikeczechs Wonderful! Thank you so much.
Czech Purpura is a blend of natural ingredients-herbs, woods, and aromatic spices-that gently release their fragrance when warmed. Its aroma adds a delightful touch to the magic of Czech Christmas, making it a part of traditional Czech holiday celebrations.
František, also known as kominíček (little chimney sweeper), is a small cone made of charcoal and precious resin. Once lit, it fills the air with an uplifting Christmas aroma.
We need the measurements
The amounts are in video description. But If you want to adjust servings. Here is link for you: www.cooklikeczechs.com/linecke-cukrovi-czech-linzer-christmas-cookies/#recipe
Oh!!!🎉 these are one of my favorite cookies ever❤!!
They are a big Czech Christmas staple, that is for sure! -Petra
@cooklikeczechs❤️
When will you show how to make dolki or tolki. That is how my czech grandmother called them.
There is no video (yet!) but you can find a recipe for vdolky on my website: www.cooklikeczechs.com/vdolky-czech-fry-cakes/ -Petra
What about Czech dolki or tolki?
I am puzzled -- why are these called "Vanilla" crescents? I didn't see any vanilla in the recipe!
Sugar?
As already said, the vanilla comes from vanilla sugar, a type of frosting sugar mixed with vanilla extract sold here in the Czech Republic. -Petra
Where is the ingredients amounts?
There are amounts in video description. But if you want to print a recipe here is link to my blog: www.cooklikeczechs.com/vanocka-recipe/#recipe
Hi Petra, greetings from Colorado. This is my Mom's favorite cookie! She learned to make them from her Czech grandmother, and she's been making them since she was a child. My uncle and aunt, often in the kitchen with my Mom and grandma called them affectionately "worms" as kids due to the shape you make when you roll them. It's a moniker that's stuck, unfortunately or not. Mom and I were watching your video, and admiring your nut grinder. I use my food processor, which works well, though you have to watch to make sure your nuts don't get oily...your grinder would not have that problem.
Hi! How wonderful to hear that your mom’s favorite cookie has such a special history! 'Worms' is such a charming nickname. 😊 It’s great that you and your mom are enjoying the video together! I agree, the nut grinder definitely helps avoid the oily texture - I’m glad you liked it!
Moc heske!❤
Děkuji! 😊
Aaaawww... that's so beautiful!
Thanks a lot for your nice comment!
I so appreciate your site. This brings back so many great memories of the traditional Czech cooking I grew up with. I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin that was settled by Czech immigrants mainly. Could get Jitrnice from our small family run grocery store/butcher. Dream about that spicy taste and texture.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories! It’s so nice to hear about your Czech roots. :))
