I'm Petra Kupská, creator of Czech recipes in English, passionate about cooking and sharing the best of Czech food and beyond!
I mostly create recipes that come from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, but also from Austria and Hungary.
If you look further back in history, you will find that what is now the Czech Republic was part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy until 1918. At that time, the national cuisines were intertwined and influenced each other. It must be said that Czech women were some of the best cooks in Europe!
Born and raised in the former Czechoslovakia, I grew up eating mostly Czech food, lovingly prepared by my parents. I now prepare those same delicious meals for my family.
On my channel I share authentic, time-tested recipes. Old Czech dishes as well as food from modern Czech cuisine. Made with love from the Czech Republic, a small country in the heart of Europe.

Green Spinach Sauce Recipe (Czech Špenátová Omáčka)
That looks really delicious! If fresh cherries aren’t available, would frozen be ok to substitute?
While traveling in Prague, I stumbled upon this garlic soup and I instantly loved it. The savory flavor and the warm broth were almost therapeutic. I’ll try to make it! Thanks for the recipe
This is great, thank you so much !!
This is the first video I see where the apples are shredded. That’s how we made it at home in Vienna. Most videos show apples sliced, which in my opinion is not as good as the shredded version. Great video ❤
Wow! I haven't made these yet! Can't wait to try. Great video.
I was in Erasmus in Brno for 6 months and it was great sometimes having some goulash in Czechia and other central European countries, ❤ from Italy
Hi, Bitrey, it's amazing how Erasmus broadens your horizons, isn't it? Goulash is one of the go-to dishes in former Austria-Hungary, and it does taste amazing.
@@cooklikeczechs Yes absolutely! Wonderful experience. Here in Italy most people don't really know much about central and eastern Europe, and that gave me the possibility to see and meet many people, it was amazing.
Looks Delicious ❤
Thank you!
Thanks a lot!

😄 Definitely a big YES!
@@cooklikeczechs I'm going for the first time in March. I can't wait ! Looks so phenomenal
How do you know which ones are safe? I've always been curious about trying this
Hi, Juliana, thanks for the question! Since most Czech families go mushroom hunting with their kids when they're young, you usually pick it up from your parents or grandparents. In addition, there's many mushroom guides, showing which mushrooms are edible or poisonous. Thanks for the question, and I hope you try mushroom hunting for yourself sometime!
One of my favorites and will be making it today since the weather has cooled down where I live.
It certainly is a good soup for the winter weather! Bramboračka brings such a cosy atmosphere, good luck making it.
My father was czeck and teached me to cook it since I was eight. Now I am a grandma and still preparing for my familly. I live in Brasil.
That's so sweet! Love to see family recipes being handed down through the generations, and even better if they're Czech.
I love Houska bread. My family made it every year for Christmas
Houska (or vánočka) certainly brings the Christmas atmosphere to the table! My family enjoys it so much that it disappears pretty much instantly. I hope you enjoy your Christmas with Czech recipes!
Looks good
Thank you, Mouhamed! I wish you luck in making the palačinky, they're delicious!
Great flip!!
Thank you! It's the years of experience 🥰

We love your website, but the videos are such a great addition. Thanks!
No problem, I'm happy to help! I also have to admit that I really enjoy sharing the recipes on the video.
Yum!
Thank you!
Classic delicious. I just do not add water. Straight vinegar 😅.
That's also a classic variation! I hope you enjoy your tlačenka and have a good time!
Yum!
Thanks a lot!
Oh thats cute
Thanks!
Odlicno🥰😀
Sehr beliebt hier in Tschechien. 😊
This is our recipe for patatnik . From the mountainous region, the Rhodope mountain!
Nice! 😊 I am from the foothills of the Czech Krkonoše and Jizera Mountains too. Potato dishes are typical for such regions!
Nice and simple👍
It is, thank you! 😊
My husband has wonderful memories of his Czech grandma making this. He was enthralled at how the dough could cover her little table and be so thin. Of course she had no recipe to leave behind, because the recipe was just known to her❤ She passed away in the '70's so I never knew her but I love his memories. I made this one year for Christmas and I used philo dough. My father in law loved it, my husband did not😂 I'm sure nothing will be as good as his Grandma's but I will try your recipe😊😊😊
Wow, that's a lovely memory, thanks for sharing, Mariane. Yes, babičky always make the most special and best food. Filo dough is an interesting choice, but it seems like it could work. I bet your husband is going to love this more authentic recipe. Good luck! ❤️
Love that this is kneaded in the bowl! You don't see that done often in the US. I am going to try this rolling out method too!
Kneading the dough in the bowl is the usual dough preparation method in the Czech Republic, even though we've been switching to stand mixers in the years past. Good luck with the dough, and enjoy the sweet results!
@cooklikeczechs thank you!!
Dobrej křemeňák
Našli jsme jich celé "hnízdo" :)
I’m definitely going to try this! I’m a fan of bread pudding, have never tried it with apples! Great Fall recipe! 💕
Thanks so much! Czech Žemlovka with apples never disappoints-I guarantee you will love it! ❤
A must-try comfort food! Žemlovka is one of the best Czech fall recipes; give it a try.
Please show us the Czech/Bohemian big "Semmelknödel"
I NEED to film this particular recipe soon! 😊
Very similar to my grandmother's recipe, except we used citron along with the golden raisins and almonds and always topped the finished Houska with a powdered sugar and water mixture. Best way to eat Houska is lightly toasted and buttered. That is the taste of Christmas. Many thanks! PS. My grandmother came from a small village in southern Bohemia, not too far from the Austrian border. My grandfather came from western Bohemia near Plisen.
Hi, Sandra, that is actually quite similar to how houska (or vánočka) is made today. There's still some lemon zest used to spice up the dough, and it is served powdered with sugar. As for toasting and buttering the houska, my family usually served it with butter (and, occasionally, jam}, which remains our favorite. Enjoy your autumn and Christmas!
detailed and amazing ♥ thank you I loved it
Thank you for your nice words! 😊
Wow new kind of bread which i have never seen😊😊
These are special, soft and flaky, and soo good! 😊

Hello, Kamilla, I always love to see family recipes being handed down the generations! I bet your zelňačka is still as delicious as your mom's or grandma's! I'm very glad you decided to try my recipe, so good luck with that!

It is wonderful hearing you speak in English. Hearing you reminds me of listening to my grandmother who had the beautiful Czech accent. She has been gone for over 30 years so you give me beautiful food and warm memories. Thank you Petra!
