SORRY FOR THE EDITING MISTAKE AT 28:30 🙈🙈🙈 Of course I chose that moment to take a drink of water...

It’s ironic that some of you will be introduced to Meyerbeer in the context of his opera about religious persecution, as it was exactly his religion as a German Jew and the anti-Semitism that was obviously very prevalent in the early 20th century in Europe that got his music banned from Germany.
DON'T GET ME WRONG - I think Susanne Johnston sings well, but I think the whole production for this aria leaves a lot to be desired...

How could we all be SO wrong | Opera singer reacts 'O Mio babbino caro'

A classic aria on deck today of O mio babbino caro. Be honest, who's heard this aria and thought it meant that someone was dying...? Ah, Puccini. The reality of this aria from the opera Gianni Schicchi could really not be farther from the lack of context the most mainstream of performances provides. Lauretta, the daughter of GIanni Schicchi, wants to marry Rinuccio. However, Rinuccio's family h...

Interesting.
IMMEDIATELY searched up Agnds Baltsa as Cherubino and I cryyy, shes brilliant
Love you channel, but lets talk about the lighter version just for something different. IMO, there are only two people who should ever been allowed to sing Massent's Manon aria En Fermant Les Yeux. One being Nicolai GEdda and the other Fritz Wunderlic............. www.google.com/search?q=nicolai+gedda+enfermant+le+jeu&sca_esv=5c0a928f80fb24e1&rlz=1C1VDKB_enUS1134&udm=7&biw=1097&bih=566&ei=wqs7Z8fLGqvfp84PiOreuAU&ved=0ahUKEwjHtN6M5OaJAxWr78kDHQi1F1cQ4dUDCA8&uact=5&oq=nicolai+gedda+enfermant+le+jeu&gs_lp=EhZnd3Mtd2l6LW1vZGVsZXNzLXZpZGVvIh5uaWNvbGFpIGdlZGRhIGVuZmVybWFudCBsZSBqZXUyBRAhGKABMgUQIRigATIFECEYoAEyBRAhGKABSOaYAVDZCVjwhAFwAngAkAEAmAF3oAGQF6oBBTIwLjExuAEDyAEA-AEBmAIhoAKBGMICCBAAGIAEGKIEwgIFECEYqwLCAgUQIRifBcICBRAAGIAEwgIGEAAYFhgewgILEAAYgAQYkQIYigWYAwCIBgGSBwUxOC4xNaAH1aQB&sclient=gws-wiz-modeless-video#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:b00b20a2,vid:tNr8CXjiaig,st:0
German version obviously but just as beautiful is Fritz Wunderlich............. th-cam.com/video/FmM7V0jDOXE/w-d-xo.html
AMazing someone as young as yourself would use Franco Corelli for the example of this role. One that I would agree. Even more amazing is the short of Tito Gobi. Great job.
No question Di Stefano is a vocal God and a good choice. No question Pavaroti was a vocal God either, just not in this role. Good that you included Jussi Bjorling as he sits at the right hand of the tenor God. When all the tenor Gods gather to dine together, only one man dines alone. None other than Nicolai Gedda. He was put on earth by God to teach tenors how to sing.................. www.google.com/search?q=nicolai+gedda+la+donna+mobile&rlz=1C1VDKB_enUS1134&oq=nicolai+gedda+la+donna+mobile&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigATIHCAIQIRigATIHCAMQIRigATIHCAQQIRigATIHCAUQIRirAjIHCAYQIRirAtIBCjI4MDg5ajBqMTWoAgiwAgE&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:ea8b9b72,vid:57S3Iv5kmpI,st:0

What a BEAUTIFUL voice!
Right??? One of my absolute favorites
Just subscribed a few days ago and am binging your content. Have been an opera lover, but I so enjoy your perspectives as an actual performer regarding the scenes and vocal difficulty and prowess. Thanks for enriching my enjoyment even more!
Ahhh thank you that's amazing to read!! 😍😍😍
Devielhe is phenomenal. Her Flower Duet with Crebassa is the modern successor to Sutherland and Horne's. And arguably better.
Callas has not sung one single note without emotion in her entire career.
Wasn't this a scene from the movie Mars Attacks?
Opera is boring nowadays because people are just interested in music that lasts only 3 or 4 minutes. There is a piece, I think it's called 4'33", and it's just silence. The orchestra doesn't play at all. Personally thinking it's brilliant because music is everywhere. That all said, I love opera.
9:10 not the pavarotti beep
What a REMARKABLE job on this difficult aria!!❤
No one said that, lololol!
Count on this tune to show people a semi-competitive role, from what I've seen for that reason!
The t in Monserrat is pronounced. Love your channel. Thank you !
Name of the aria pls
As a tenor I was almost insulted that you didn’t present us first😂😂😂. But honestly: even being a choir tenor is hard work. To learn how to smoothly pass through passagio into high notes with cool resonance in full voice open singing takes a lot of time and practice. But once one knows how, it is sooo cool. You won’t believe this: I learned that only when I completely switched from Soul and Pop to Classical at age 47. And guess what: tomorrow watching La Fille du Régiment at Opéra de la Bastille, Paris❤
the goosebumps goddess 😮
For people who have known someone who has died by suicide this aria punches 100x harder. Dido's words are all about the effect her suicide will have on those left behind. Her final wishes (no trouble in the breast of loved ones; and that they remember her minus her suicide) will certainly not be made in vain. There is something strangely healing about this heavy subject out to music in this gorgeous way and thanks for reviewing it.
Thank you so much for this.
Any person who says opera is boring doesn't really have much sense. That said Sabine Devieilhe is a beast.
I've never really seen any of the rest of this Opera, just this scene. I had the impression that Don Giovanni was a free spirit going around getting laid, till some self righteous wraith came to condemn him. And even in the face of death, he showed bravery and "ne regrete rien" as the french say. The full story of the opera ruins this. So, ill just keep running my own script in my head every time I watch this scene. I also love the fantabulous, almost 89s style suit on Don G. Id never wear it myself, but it certainly suits the singer most excellently.
I needed this. I can't start the sound without the back of my tongue. ITS ANNOYING TO UNTANGLE and sadly my vocal coach can't help me because he never experienced what we're talking about.
Callas might not have the best voice compared to her contemporaries but she brings us to this whole different world when she sings. Just overflowing of pure emotions and I think that separates her from the rest. Caballet is brilliant as well---too perfect for me tbh in a way that she almost consciously tries to perfect all her notes which she does btw everytime she performs, but this overrides the emotions and rawness that should be present in the aria. I don't know, not an expert but listening to Callas always gives me joy and sadness. She had this thing that magnetised you when she starts singing a single note.
You would have loved to have been around in the 1700s when it was basically all Coloratura
Your pronunciation of "Cerquetti" is absolutely correct.
Yay, thank you!
The lady in the blue and white T shirt needs to disappear
First two chords scream Boheme! And you need you see the film. Your comments cannot be legit because the music is entwined - you would know that it is the NC character persuades Cher to go to the opera. The movie is a rom com that works extremely well and earned an Oscar for Cher! And Cher is NOT breaking up with Cage. This particular video is incredibly condescending. with respect to Moonstruck.

Thank you Anna. Your posts give me so much pleasure. Partly 1:08 due to the OperS but also i learn so much about arias that have been part of my life for so so long but above all your presentation and enthusiasm is so enjoyable. I think like a lot of Opera lovers it has not been my experience to have opera lovers in my close circle. So i just love sharing your live of yhis amazing music/drama. How lucky we are Puccini wrote Nessun Dorma.
I have lost count of how many times i have watched and do enjoyed this on so many levels. Anna thanks so much
Angelic!
Simultaneously assuming a powerful and terrifying posture is fitting for the character and also allowing her to hit those difficult notes and techniques. Can literally see it in her chest and shoulders. She looks well trained.
but can we comment on the resemblance between Don Giovanni and another famous "Don" who is running for president at the moment? Who also seems to lack any repentence for his own copious moral lapses, and who likewise would probably say "Yes, I'm not scared" (or "fight, fight!") in response to an invitation to hell!?
OMG 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
haters will always be haters... in the meantime, a little bit of fun: th-cam.com/video/lP9V7_fevgQ/w-d-xo.html Papagino/Papagina!
So i'm a a newbie when it comes to opera, but i've listened to Callas, joan sutherland, pavarotti, marilyn horne... but i've never listened to a wagneran opera before and WOW! This is SO different than the bel canto operas i'm accustomed to. There is so much more "body" to it!
