    That was really useful. Thanks. I too am looking at a 3-Sony setup, but a bit more on the budget side. So 3 x APS-C cameras with manual focus primes. I have one on a slider, one fixed and am actively manning the FX30. Rather than a GoPro, I have an Insta360 X3 360 degree camera. As I am filming multiple acts, I wanted the flexibility to pick up unexpected movement in the playing area. I think if I went beyond 4 cameras by adding a GoPro, I would start making mistakes. Best to keep it as simple as possible I reckon!

    I always prefer 35 to 40mm lenses. I have never been a 50mm kind of guy. I like environmental type slightly wide portraits etc...If I need strait on studio portraits than the 85mm becomes my go to lens.

      35mm is the most boring lens 🥱 So overused nowadays, every photographer has one and there's no way you can create something interesting or original with it. People just see it everywhere and they can't come up with something better so they just copy what others do/have.

      I shoot a concert and i tested the camera mic, the A7 mic are garbage, it didnt pick up the bass, the ZVE10 mic sounds better but the best sounds I get is the one from my iPhone 15 Pro, never shoot a musical video using onboard mic on A7, Now I bought the Zoom H6 4 XLR input and the sound is really good.

    I most recently picked up the Sony, 24mm, f2.8, G. I don’t own the Sony, 40mm, f2.5, G (no plans to get it either), but I do have the Sony, 50mm, f2.5, G, which is perfect in my opinion! I love everything about the 50mm. I was very reluctant about the Sony, 24mm, f2.8, G due to the price and the really crazy barrel distortion which is present in raw photos and even in JPGs with image corrections turned on, (corners stretched). At $290 USD, I opted for the Sigma, 24mm, f3.5, dg dn, (another really nice lens). I really like my Sigma. It has minimal pin cushion distortion, excellent min focus distance:never to close to focus, brilliant color reproduction, images are sharp, and the body is small and cute and clicky! Still, I like shooting in bad weather and my 24mm, Sigma is not fully weather sealed. I also like shooting at night and my 24mm, Sigma’s f3.5 max aperture, while serviceable does not make it the low light beast. Also, the 24mm, Sigma has some rather strong vignetting, more than the Sony lens in my opinion, that never completely goes away even when stopping down. I picked up the Sony, 24mm, G after finding a screaming buy on the used market (~$340). It’s a handsome, small lens that is fully weather sealed, and has the clicky rings, buttons, and switches I like. I wanted to see what I was missing out on. I’ve used it shooting JPG only with lens corrections turned on, which gets rid of the barrel distortion but haven’t noticed if it stretches the sides. I’ve shot almost exclusively at f5.6 aperture to key into the lenses optimal sharpness and while I’ll need a little more time with it I like the sharpness it returns and it is giving some additional flexibility in night time images where I want to keep my ISO down.

    • @mamumonkan
      @mamumonkan 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Cthames123 the focusing ring is in the wrong place. You could also say the f stop ring is not separated enough from the focusing ring. When you change the f stop in certain focusing modes the dreaded distance scale will show up in your EVF ( Sony has still not provided a way to switch it off) I also have the full line of Sigma lenses where the focusing ring does not get in the way ( but the lens hood does :) ... On top of it, the focusing throw on the G lenses is so minisculely short that it is next to useless in MF mode. ( even for fine educated Japanese fingers like mine f-stop and focusing ring order should be like Leica Q 28/1.7 ).

    • @Cthames123
      @Cthames123 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mamumonkan I see. I own the 24mm and 50mm, G and I don't have the same problem with the focus ring placement and the distance to the aperture ring, but agree the two are on the thin side! For me, especially on the 50mm,( which I absolutely love!), I'll trade for the sharpness, size and fun factor that comes with shooting with something so tiny and powerful. I have the Sigma, 24mm, f3.5, Dg dn and it is about 3/8in longer than the Sony, 24mm, f2.8, G but does space out the aperture ring from the focus ring a little better than the Sony. The Sigma's focus ring is wider and easier to get your finger on without having to worry about touching the front glass.

    Doing great work, man. Nice utilization of the light. I’ve had this lens for about 7 months and mostly use it for video, which yields amazing results. Past few weeks I’ve been testing it for photography and the center seems slightly soft at 1.4, 1.6, and 1.8. It’s subtle but noticeable, which is somewhat annoying for a lens of this price, even if the price has dropped considerably. In short, for nighttime photography, it doesn’t seem like this lens gives the best results wide open. I’m still gonna run some more tests, but it stinks that such is the case currently. Nonetheless, keep up the great work. Great video, too.

    I have this lens. I am not satisfied with the sharpness. It has an interesting character and nice colors, but focusing tends to be problematic. But I'd say the with a7iv is more accurate than the a7iii. My overall impression is embarrassed. Maybe I just have a bad copy (bought new in 2021). I probably wouldn't buy again, to be honest. But since I already own it, I don't want to sell it cheap. I'am keeping it for the dreamy character and colors. But 35mm is not my favorite, I prefer 50mm, 35mm I use little.

    Any recommendation for a compact point and shoot camera with acceptable lowlight performance and wide zoom range and image stabilizer? Most venues won't let you in with large gears (unless you have permission). I still use my old Sony HX-20V wich does still do an "OK" job for a cam that's more than a decade old. Still most smartphones can easily outperform it in "no need for zoom" conditions. S

    I see this lens being used on Sony with an adapter. And in this video it is being used without an adapter. Which would be amazing. I have a Canon R6 Mark II and would love to use this lens without an adapter. So you would have to go to Sony if you don't need an adapter. Or buy an RF 85mm f/1.2. But then the question remains as to which of the two has better bokeh and rendering. Until I have all the certainty I need, I will hold my RF 50mm f/1.8 as a point and shoot Canon R6 Mark II.

For walking around I prefer 40mm to 50mm personally but it’s hard to get high performance lenses in that focal length like the 35/1.4 GM or 50/1.4 GM. Would also like to have a 28mm version. Did buy a used FE 28/2 to try out but like lenses with an aperture ring. Again a 28mm GM would be great.

Since I find myself shooting video at or around the 24mm focal length most of the time when on vacation, I thought I'd try this, and I am so glad I did. I'm just using a Samsung Galaxy s22 Ultra on a stationary tripod for now or a flexible Mount to put on a railing the venue I go to hasn't complained yet. I do a lot of smaller bands or I can actually take my tripods in and have more freedom to move around I just don't have a lot of equipment yet. I have about 20 concerts on my TH-cam page now that I've shot it's definitely not good work but I'm getting a little bit better at editing

      this video seems to be geared towards smaller bands and perhaps being hired by a band to shoot video. this provides no useful information concerning taking video at major concerts if you are a fan. you can't walk in with a tripod (considered a weapon), you can't walk in with a digital audio recorder, you cannot EVER plug into the audio soundboard. You are extremely limited, as a fan, about what you are allowed to take into the venue. If you are serious about taking video using a top of the line camera that YOU CAN take into venues, then there is only one choice: SONY RX100m7 Shoots proshot video with a 1inch ccd and takes better audio than any digital recorder I've ever snuck into a venue plus you don't have to work on syncing audio (which can be problematic). Great video sharing what he did, but lacks on techniques and challenges actually faced. Good luck!

      Also, I have two cameras depending upon my seating location. If I can't get close enough seats, then I use a SONY DSC-HX99 which has a better optical zoom but a smaller CCD. The optical zoom ensure crisp zooming as the rx100m7 does not have as good an optical zoom and using digital zoom too much pixelates some. I would NEVER use a gopro. I have 3000+ concert videos and over 250 concert playlists... fyi

    Hi, thanks for the review. It seems the tube or adapter you have on the lens makes it look strange. Is that the Sony Dedicated one? Spoils the lens, as other mounts are shorter.

    Hey Stewart! Thanks for these great tips! I would like to ask a question: On your master camera, which aperture value you use to get a proper depth of field to get everything in focus? Do you use manuel focus as a set and forget setting, and do you need high iso values in such an environment?

    Lol… you added digital because you wanted your initials to be SMD didn’t you? 😏

    Hi I hope you are fine. Can you help me? I am confused between two lenses Sony Zeiss 35mm f1.4 and sigma 35mm f1.4. Please tell me which one is better? Or which one you recommend.

    Cameras are not permitted inside to regular folks like me. I see that you are allowed to take your camera.

    Hey man, would you be okay to send you some samples of mine and tell me if you think I have issues with the my copy? I feel like it's not sharp at all compared to my 135mm 1.8.

    Great video and tips. Congrats. Do you think a Sony GM 100-400mm at f/5.6 would be usable in a concert like that? I mean, would I have to bump the ISO too much? I also shoot with a Sony a7siii (25fps, 1/50s) and I was wondering if this lens could be used in a A camera for master shot and some close ups as well.

    • @StewartMediaDigital
      @StewartMediaDigital ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yes for sure. That’s a great lens for concerts. I don’t think you would need to push the ISO very much at all, especially on an a7siii

    I have 35mm (the FE F1.8 version) on my Sony A7R III body most of the time (paired with 55mm F1.8 ZA). I like it when using it outdoors. However, I find it quite tight when using it indoors. For example, during a dinner at a small table with 2 or 3 people, you really have to move quite far to include the things on the table and the two other people (literally: physically stand up and back up a bit). So, now I am considering between 20mm and 24mm. Have you used 20mm and would you advise it?

    • @StewartMediaDigital
      @StewartMediaDigital ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally don’t like anything wider than 24mm for most uses because of the way the edges get warped. You can fixed this issue in editing but to me it never looks quite right.

    What camera body did you use to test the autofocus tracking in this video? Thanks.

    • @StewartMediaDigital
      @StewartMediaDigital ปีที่แล้ว

      This was almost 3 years ago so I think I used an an a7riii and an a6500. Now the newest cameras have incredible autofocus and it probably preforms much better on those.

    Tamron 150-500 is actually comparable to this when it comes to autofocus.

    Great video. I usually use two shotgun mics in stereo on the back main wide camera for backup audio. Like you experienced, the soundboard isn't always reliable. Also, what did you do to keep your cameras from being stolen? Did you have people watching the cameras? Or did you hire other cameramen?

    • @StewartMediaDigital
      @StewartMediaDigital ปีที่แล้ว

      In this situation I was able to keep them in the closed off sound booth. But if that wasn’t an option I would hire someone. Having someone else is also helpful for restarting recording on cameras that have the 30 min record limit.
