Ulster or Britain have been the only two historical rulers of Ulster. Ulster was independent kingdom before being subdued and ruled by the British, conquered centuries after our Southern Irish neighbours. “A Nation Once Again” for Ulster, now unfortunately called Northern Ireland, would be independence, not unification, as claimed by the Republic of Ireland and used as the justification for violence.

Unscrupulous tactics from the interviewer here. Very few politicians would be able to withstand such hostile scrutiny, but Ó Conaill kept his composure and spoke well.

I'm from Ireland but live in the States and one thing i have learned is every Irish American i meet has some lie his Irish father told him about fighting the Black and Tans or fighting with Collins. What an amazing explanation of how it was during such a sad time for Irish men,to sacrifice their lives,to give its people the freedom we have today,this freedom should never be taken for granted,nor should it ever be destroyed by our current Government bodies,that lack the understanding,pride,or the courage to not sell out the Irish descendents of such brave men of the past .My heart breaks,when I think of how it must have been like,for so many people in Ireland back then.I bow my head to all the Irish men women,that gave us all what we have today.Thank you ,and RIP.
