TSOTS: The State of the Stereo 2024!
Here's a look at my stereo system at the end of 2024.
Finally did some tube rolling on my Reisong A10 integrated this year:

I like the Chord Mojo 2 I picked up earlier this year so much, it's now the DAC in every system in the house:

I also reviewed a couple of great pairs of speakers which will stay in the system for the long haul:

Thanks for the great review and semi rec for albums to find. The biggest issue i have with the br03 is the silk dome twitter being incable of producing harsh or sharp treble. Otherwise imo BR03 is one of the best at both revailing microdynamics and showcasing your source chain. Still waiting for the day triangle produces a upgrade with their their metal horns because sadly the comete just doesnt hit the same way. Downgraded back to the BR03 beause of the slam.
This stereo was my first major purchase when I was in high school. I had the matching Kenwood cassette player, a pioneer turntable & 2 RDR speakers with 12” woofers. I ended up selling the RDR speakers got me 2 IDS 2 towers speakers that had 2 8” woofers in each speaker to help eliminate distortion also had a light to show how much power the speakers was pushing along with some kind of fuse box in the back to eliminate blowing the speakers out lol. Now I had this system in my man cave garage till 2010 when the speakers dry rotted out, the Kenwood receiver lasted roughly till 2020 one side stop working so my wife got me a new computer stereo system I still have not fully figured out hahaha
It's safe to say that the J2 easily blows away the modius E.
The Klipsch RP-600m II were released in May 2022
Hi, I have interesting in A10, do you think it can well to push ATC SCM7 speaker (its sensitivity is a lowish 84dB/W/m)? Thanks!
I can't say for sure since I don't have any experience with the ATC SCM7, but you'd probably be better off with a higher sensitivity speaker. The A10 is not able to get very loud with my KEF LS50s which I believe are about 86db/W.
@@nadiraudio Thank you for your advise!
Hello, I also have the Reisong A10 as my second system which do you prefer with jazz the Klipsch or the Triangle?
In my experience, it varies from recording to recording for most genres. If I had to pick one for jazz on the A10, though, my preference would be the Klipsch for their more dynamic, forward, and "live" sound.
I would think that stereo VCR would outperform a cassette deck
Yes, I was surprised that it didn’t, but it could come down to condition and wear on these two specific devices as well as the tapes I’m using for each.
I got this used for $90 and now use it with a Marantz as a pre-amp and my Emotiva B1+ and it sounds really nice
Many single-capstan decks from other manufacturers outperformed the 480 soon after its release, and any deck with Dolby C wipes the floor with any deck without it in terms of flatness of frequency response, particularly with Type I tapes where performance can come very close to that of Type IV tapes. I have a Teac V-1050 here that's flat from 20Hz to 20kHz within 1dB when using a cheap TDK FE Type I tape with Dolby C and measures 0.045% WRMS wow and flutter. It's a far more recent deck than the 480 but cost peanuts by comparison.
I have one question considering the transport mechanism of your Rotel CD11 player: is it mute or you hear the transport clicking while playing quieter passages of music? Thanks.
I’ve never heard any transport noises when listening to quieter passages in classical music. Overall, it’s a quiet player.
Cat is audiophile too😅
Absolutely! 😂🐱

Thanks for posting this! Wanna get a set of Mullard EL-34 power tubes now. I too have an A-10 and a Orbit. I just popped in a set Mullard 12AX7 preamp tubes (using adapters), and a Tung-Sol 5AR4 rectifier tube. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! I'm still really enjoying the Mullard power tubes, and I may get some adapters for the preamp tubes at some point. There are so many different 12AX7s to try out.
You SUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKK for not playing it.
4 years on and still no Schitt Mani review video. Maybe you can do a Schitt Mani 2 review! Thanks.
Thanks! Yes, I’ll finally be releasing a Mani 2 review in the next couple of months.
Adding an EQ have better sound scaping? Less hustle from tube swapping
I think an EQ could be very helpful for smoothing out the sound with some tubes, but tube swapping allows you to fundamentally change the sound in ways that you couldn't with an EQ alone.
@@nadiraudio I used a tube preamp with EQ, gives it an up front boost, sounds louder now plus the sound scaping from EQ. I'm happy with the results.
Lol. A couple comments.................................... Excellent editing. Prominently displaying the gear is so much more Audiophile pleasing than the uncomfortable, way too close, talking-head shots that take up 90% of my monitor. With 4K, I get distracted & start counting their nose hairs. So Thanks. A plug for good Schiit. That Saga and now the Saga 2 for $279 is simply outstanding. Balanced with a headphone out and a better than most volume control is really 'The' place to start a serious starter chain. And no matter what, there will always be a buyer for it used. Acid Jazz, Funk & Brass 🔈🔉🔊
Thanks! I agree that the Saga is a great value and the perfect place to start an amazing system.
Dear Nadir, I'll help you. For the A10, get a Zu Union 6, and then you can think about exchanging your A10 for a Line Magnetic LM-845 Premium. you will never think about your Kef, or rp-600m
Nice cat.
quick question...i have a Yamaha a-s801, Geshelli DAC, TV as my sound source which has toslink audio out...how can i set all three of them up? does the OPTICAL go from the TV to the OPTICAL in the Geshelli DAC, then from the RCA on the Geshelli to the RCA on the Yamaha amp? thanks in advanced and great info on this video
Thanks! Yes, that's how I have mine set up as well. TV optical out to Geshelli optical in, then Geshelli RCA out to amplifier RCA in.
@@nadiraudio Appreciate the info
As long as the cat is happy.
Thank you, that was an informative video. i'm in agreement with you because I've tried those ones too. I've settled down for the longest time, after I put in a pair of Nesstone EL 34's. They sound right and the price was right. Thanks again for taking the time, making your videos.
Thanks! I'll have to try the NessTones at some point. Seem like a very good deal.
I been using kt66 lately with jj rectifier and Russian preamp boosting with my Bellari preamp it kicks ass
Eh power tube's are nice also
I owned the original Mojo, but then sold it to free up funds for other hobbies, then missed it dearly. Bought the Mojo 2 when the price dropped, and won’t be selling it ever!! Beautiful device.
I have a Modi 3+. My system is bright and analytical with excellent detail and jaw dropping soundstage. My only gripe is in movies quiet scenes it’s completely silent sucking out all the ambiance making the scene looks synthetic and unreal. If I switch out the Modi with the Geshelli would this add ambient sound to quiet scenes in movies? Could the gain bump help?? If so, to me, it would not be a lateral move but a next level improvement
Available sir, how many price. Mobile number please send me.
couldnt agree more. Other high-end dongle DACs just enhance the technicalities artificially, such as DC Elite, L&P W4, CM18P, or even Cayin RU7.
I'm running a a12 with rp600m with a technics cd player and for the money invested the sound is incredible. I rolled 2 electro harmonix big bottle tubes and they are better than stock tubes. My other system is forte 3s with a marantz model 40n and cd60 I enjoy both systems and one day go with tubes on the fortes also
I loved Mick Karn. Your cat looks like a music buff!
Can I use my Sony receiver with blue tooth with the Reisong? I know my cd player would work though
The A10 is an integrated amp and there are no separate amp and preamp taps, so there's not really a good way to use it with your Sony. You can definitely use a CD player with it, though.
@@nadiraudioI did read a guy used his stereo some how:) whats the AUX jack for? I run my Ampapa tube preamp into the input 1 RCA jacks. Thanks for the reply
Just play it and shufthefuckup
Nice video. Interesting take on the Mojo2. People criticise the UI and appearance of Chord products, but the steampunk styling appeals to me personally. The style also reminds me of the products of the British motorcar industry, like TVR, Bristol, Lotus, Noble etc. It is a refreshing change from the, imo, bling black boxes with blurry displays. I found the Mojo2 to be preferable over the Glare of the ESS saber dacs in my audiolab amp, audioquest dragonfly cobalt, cambridge audio streamer. I also found the Mojo2 to be warmer, but not as incisive as the Chord Qutest that the chord experience led me to purchase. I am not an audiophile btw. The Qutest takes over the "main system" duty of the Mojo. No regrets that I got the Mojo2/Poly combo.
Thanks! I'm hoping to pick up a Qutest at some point too, but may try out a couple of other DACs in the same price range as the Mojo 2 first.
How did You find Mojo2 compared to Dragonfly Cobalt? I own Dragonfly Red and when switched to Cobalt find it being lifeless and clinical. I much prefer warmer Red.
Hello, I am currently using my vintage Marantz as a pre-amp, connected to an Emotiva amplifier. Planning on getting the Topping as a DAC. Do you think i should also use it as a pre amp, or leave it the way I have it now? I also have a turntable playing thru the Marantz
I would try it out both ways and see which one you like better. I suspect the biggest difference will be a smaller soundstage and less precise imaging on the vintage pre-amp, but it also depends on what speakers you'll be using.
It looks like crap and probebly sounds like crap
It doesn’t and it doesn’t.
Ciao.... mi hai dato una bella ispirazione per realizzare il mio porta elettroniche
Just got mine setup and on the first CD its immediately apparent This is a vary pleasant sounding CD player a bit warmer and fuller sounding then my last rotel cd player at least in my system
What label is the cd on
It's on the Orange Mountain Music (OMM) label, along with a lot of Philip Glass's other albums.
I bought mine in 2019 at the regular price and I don't regret buying them and do love them..Amp is ayima a07 that I run like a pre with full volume and adjust listening volume with an smsl c200 dac amp. I am wanting to add a sub though and looking at power tube amps to tame the kind of higher sounding tweeters..I found your video looking at tube amp and rp600m pairings...very good video!
get the fm300a clone, it will sound amazing
Is that an e30 on its side? I have one and it was a replacement for a DAC IT x that died which was a replacement for my ancient Audio Alchemy stuff. I’m seriously considering the Socketted version with the 4499 and Sparkos.
I purchased this player about an month ago as part of a "rediscover my CD collection" thing. Been enjoying immensely.
I also have a Rotel Tribute cd player for my 2nd system . Very detailed sound for price Drawer feels a little flimsy but no complaints for £300 🇬🇧 uk new I paid a year & half ago. On my main system I have a 12 year old Onkyo C7070 - which at £450 🇬🇧was a significant step up sound quality wise from C7030 referred to in this video & does sound better, a little more analogue warmth & with more depth & weight than the Tribute with my Naim AB class amplifier. 🎶 The cd recess on the Onkyo drawer is VERY shallow. A CD slide over the back whilst the drawer was closing & jammed. A local hi Fi repair guy retrieved it & I was really impressed seeing the internal build quality.
Hello, "Laser Focused Imaging" is a preference, not a mandate. In fact, my system is built with the exact opposite sound signature in mind & practice. Acid Jazz, Funk & Brass 🔈🔉🔊
Most cassette decks need full serviicing and retuning by now. Done so the 480 is one hell of a deck albeit and entry level Nakamichi. I collect Nakamichi decks and still looking for more. To date only managed to acquire one each: BX125, BX150, BX300, CR7, ZX9, RX505, 680zx and two: 480 decks one black one silver. Ok re the 480. It’s the best basic 2 head Nakamichi ever. Because it shares the classic Nakamichi dual capstan transport and uses the pad lifter on the head. The heads are also made in house by Nakamichi. The main necessary electronics are also top notch sharing the best circuits with the higher end Nakamichi. Nothing was spared within it’s basic specs. Missing is Dolby C which generally one does not need as all commercially prerecorded tapes if Dolby encoded need only Dolby B to playback. For recording Dolby B is very good for ferrics. I find Dolby C a little over boost in the lower treble with any deck. With type ii and metal you don’t need Dolby as all Nakamichis can record at high levels with no distortion. Yes the 480 has no user tape recording calibration like higher end Nakamichis. But you can calibrate any blank tape inside using 400hz and 15khz test tones and comparing the db levels using an oscilloscope or a computer sound level apps to match source and recording. A bit of work since you cannot monitor but after a few recordings and checking results you’re good to go. You’ll be amazed how good it can record as did l. I pre-calibrated mine to TDK AD, SA and MA as l have lots of these. Of course nowadays since acquiring the CR7 and ZX9 my recordings are done on these.
Thank you for the clear review. I now use a Sabaj headphone amp as preamp, but consider getting a “real” preamp. Does anyone know the range of the remote? I need 5+ meters (17 feet).
I’m running emotiva basx A2m AB amp and the rp600m sound amazing. Lots of headroom and doesn’t sound bright at all. This tiny amp puts out some amazing bass.
Are complaints about the player not playing toward the end of longer CDs true? It just stops playing? Also, does this player have gapless playback?
I haven't experienced any issues with the CD11 not playing near the end of longer CDs. And yes, it supports gapless playback.
Oh so this is how all those pushed in tweeters happen...
I heard some Klipsch speakers with copper woofers and large square horn tweeters at an audio show. It sounded like fire coming out of the tweeters. Unbearably steely and irritating.
love my R50M with my Sony receiver and CD player I play it really loud with my drums nice and clear with the Ampapa tube preamp
I have the EL 34 amp, and I run Paradigm speakers. I have wanted to try different speakers with it. Thank you for this video.
Is it high current?
