    Hello friend. I would like to ask, are you good with the Africa Twin? I'm walking in circles from months trying to decide what bike to get and I always come back to AT. I was in love and strongly considering the Suzuki V Strom 800 DE, it seems a very good option, but given the fact here in Brazil Honda is still the safest bet in terms of assistance and availability (despite the prices) I don't know, I fear Suzuki dealerships would give me headache. Do you have any attention points about AT and Honda after sales? Thanks!

    • @MrLuk78
      @MrLuk78 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The Honda AT is an splendid bike. Reliable, straight forward to maintain and it has a quite similar structure of other Honda bikes. If you look for simplicity and longevity go for it! It is a bike that will easily last decades of intensive beating up. As for Suzuki V Strom 800 I´ve never ridden nor seen one. But if the project improves the previous model it is probably as excellent bike as the Honda AT. But you have a point: the bike here in Brazil is imported, as opposed to the AT. Also there are not many reliable dealers out there. Those two points certainly moves the balance in favor of the AT. The AT is 100% produced here in Brazil so it is 100% certainty that there will always be parts available for sale immediately. Not sure about suzuki if you need an specific bolt for example. When I was changing the fork seal I though that i had lost a ring that holds to rod on the bottom of the fork tube. I called my honda dealer and they promised the part for 1 working day for R$70. After cleaning the suspension I found out that the ring was stuck because of the loctite on the bottom adjusting bolt. So, this as a good example on the positive side of having a bike manufactured here in Brazil. Hope it helps on your decision. Best Regards

    Is there any difference in size/specs from the brake pads of Sahara 300 or CB 500F (original) in relation to the Africa Twin brake pads (original)? It feels like if you step inside a Honda store they would charge way more for the same product just because of the bike name.

    • @MrLuk78
      @MrLuk78 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're right. That sort of thing happens quite often in dealers, specially with fork seals as they only vary in diameter and thickness. Check the price of a pair of fork seals for the AT compared with the 500x, for example. However, eventhough the size and matching of the xre300/cb500f pads are the same of the AT, the material used on the genuine pads for those bikes is not sintered. It doesn't withhold the same heat and pressure as of AT. Bear in mind that a pair of good pads for an AT usually costs close to the genuine one but they don't come with the ceramic shield.You can check EBC, Brembo sintered and Nissin. They may very 20% in price. Other brands such as Potenza usually wear out the disc more rapidly and don't have the same softness and breaking power. At the end of the day you spend with a more often change of disks.

And this is so simple! Today I had a feeling this started after I put the bike in the central stand and put the first gear to clean the chain with the water gun... So it was time to confirm. You made my day! Mine was error 126. Gear box got totally crazy and change more than first gear (DCT).

    How does the wheel paint hold? Are there any scratches/paint chipping from using the metal levers?

    • @MrLuk78

      If you use tire paste or detergent with soap you minimize the risk of scratching your wheel. Also you have to manage the tire lever in such a way to avoid pressing the outside part of the rim.But you can buy a rim protector to avoid the risk of scratching.

Removi as rodas e levei pra instalar e balancear. Acabei decidindo nao pegar versao Dakar, peguei a versao regular do Mitas 07 +, mandei colocar as camaras de ar heavy duty 3mm.

      O puxador de valvula e o bead breaker da motion pro eu tenho ja, so me faltaria as espatulas maiores.

    Great video! Just did the job myself - a question for anyone who did that also: I've changed bake pads two days ago and my rear brake disc is warm after every ride even though I don't use the rear brake before checking on it. So it's a general friction. Is it normal for the pads to constantly touch the disc after switching?

    • @MrLuk78

      Maybe the material of the pads you installed doesn't dissipate heat..a bit of friction always happens and the disk will always remain a bit hot. it's important to make sure you use sintered pads otherwise it may overheat.

    • @MrLuk78

      Never tried karoo 4. Karoo 3 was one of the best tires I've tried, mainly considering the price mileage ratio. as it was made in Brazil, it was cheaper. Karoo 4 almost doubled the price. Nowadays it costs exactly the same as mitas but it lasts at least 2,5 times less.

    Use brake cleaner spray, not carb cleaner which will degrade the brake piston seals. That stuff is bad on an rubber designed for brake fluid. its designed to dissolve old fuel and reacts badly with brake components. Use a smear of high temperature brake grease and not silicone grease on the bolts. Ask me why after it melts and coats the pads.

    • @MrLuk78

      Thanks for your comment! Silicone grease is the one indicated in Honda servicing manual. Usually it's advised to be used in parts with contact with rubber, which is the case of the rear calipers bolts (not the front ones ). However, the industry always brings new solutions that withstand higher temperatures as it is the case o copper and lithium grease . I would not use copper grease as it conducts electricity, eventhough withstands higher temperatures. Not sure but I suppose silicone grease has a very high melting point. As for using a carb cleaner, it's a well know cheap solution (very common around here) for removing dust and debris from parts with orings, as it dissolves dirt without damaging rubber. Having said that, it's always better to use products specifically designed for a given purpose. But it always come at higher prices. Many mechanics even use querosene for cleaning up break calipers. best regards!

      @MrLuk78 I saw that in the handbook too but have had unfortunate experience with silicone grease on brake pins before.

      Thanks for your comment.Yes, and it should be inverted . The tread pattern in the front tyre is supposed to help the bike to maximize breaking power. the front tyre pattern should always be on the opposite of wheel turning. Best regards
