You should check out Barbra's speech at APLA (AIDS Project Los Angeles and you'll love her even more. Her duet with Johnny Mathis is pretty great, too, if you wanna hear a few thousand queens swoon in unison when she sings her first note. I love love love it just for the swoon.

I try not to watch this video because I know it must be hard for her , just raised by a single mom , I have seen him only only 2x since Gigi became successful, when Gigi won in the talent show and her province gave her a big parade Gigi invited him and her Mama was there too Second time was in Gigis’ mom viewing , last night in funeral place Gigi has always said She loves her Papa too , that’s where I admired Gigi to show her respect to him probably not all of us can do that 😮

I was at this performance! The night of Barbra's return to the concert stage after a 27 year absence primarily caused by stage fright. I never thought I'd get to see her live, so it was a dream come true. Las Vegas was in high Barbra-mania for days before. I remember the newspapers saying the city hadn't seen anything like it since Elvis's return. The collective anticipation of 17,000 people in the MGM Grand Garden Arena that night was truly something. A night I'll not forget (Though I think I blacked out a few times. 😆) This was New Year's Eve '93/'94, and though she looks in good health here, Virginia Clinton Kelly would die only days later, on January 6th, from breast cancer. When Barbra attended Virginia's funeral, she was so 'electrified' by the song "On Holy Ground", sung by Janice Sjostrand, It sparked her next album "Higher Ground", a collection of spiritual and inspirational songs. She dedicated that album to Virginia Clinton Kelley. BTW, the appearance of Barbra and Madonna on Saturday Night Live was during "Coffee Talk" (prounced "Cawfee Tawk"), a recurring skit that MIke Myers performed made up as an exaggerated version of his very Jewish mother-in-law, Linda Richman. Every episode was "Dedicated, as evah, to Barbra Joan Streisand". It was here the phrase that Barbra was "like buttah" was born. The night of this concert performance Mike Myers, dressed as the character Linda Richman, was in the audience. She started tawking and once the spotlight hit her, the audience went wild. Barbra, of course, invited "Linda" on stage and they did a little routine together. To top it off, attending with Mike that night was the REAL Linda Richman who Barbra introduced from the stage. 😄

What Bill Clinton did did not threaten our democracy or national security like what's happening now with the most recent previous president. What Clinton did affected his wife and daughter and should not have been made a national display... that was all political. As for Hillary, she was probably the most qualified person to ever run for president, and this country lost a golden opportunity, all due to the Electoral College, gerrymandering, and politics. Elections should be based on popular vote, period, like every other civilized country in the world, and like all of our other elections! Barbra is a national treasure, and she has been lifelong Democrat fighting for civil liberties and the less privileged. She was always an icon of the Gay community, in fact, Barbra's son, Jason is gay. Barbra also sung at the inaugurations of JFK and Bill Clinton. Virginia Clinton died just days after she got to see Barbra in concert, and Barbra later learned from Bill himself that his mother waited until she could see Barbra sing live since this was basically Barbra's first live appearance in 27 years. As for her 'friendship' with Madonna... they are definitely acquaintances with a mutual respect, who share very similar views... like with so many other singers who came after her, Barbra was Madonna's idol. Not so sure about the US but they did play that song in some US radio station since she’s American and I’m pretty sure this song did play at gay bars in the US back in the 1996 all the way through the end of the 90s. Hi Cold Fire! This video is quite legit as you saw. It was a lip-sync/mime to the album cut. So Hal Blaine on drums, Karen miming. Karen and Richard were all of it! You are VERY CORRECT on autotune and pitch correction, it is out of control. The great thing is Tori is natural and uses none of it. She and Jim Wilkas have said; a little reverb and EQ, just like what Richard used back in the day. I may have said it but forgot. Tori and Jim’s next Carpenters cover is Close To You. As an OG Carpenters fan, I bought Close To You in 1970. That was their second album. In 1969 the Carpenters were signed to A&M and in that year they released “Offering” later renamed for the one moderate hit, Ticket To Ride. Karen did all the drumming on Offering/TTR. She also played the electric bass guitar. The only album with that credit. Joe Osborn came on board and did all the bass playing in studio thereafter. Joe is credited with discovering them and made demo records with them. He asked his friend Hal Blaine to produce them but he was too busy. Hal came on as drummer to smooth out the sound and Close To You the album proved them right. Karen got stronger as a drummer doing all the drumming save one song on the Now and Then album. One last Tori note. She recently acquired a new microphone to replace the Blue Bottle she was using. Obviously that $200 mic was shooting way above its price class recording Tori. Yet, to further her respect and love of Karen. Her new mic is the German made Neumann (Noy Man) U87. This is Karen’s primary mic at A&M. It is the modern version of it. It first appears in her cover with Dan of It’s Impossible, then her short cover of “Sam” by Olivia. It is noticeable as it is larger and gray not blue. I can hear the difference. When I first played Impossible I did it on my home theater setup. I was slightly distracted but immediately noticed a “wider and deeper” sound. Looked at the screen and WTF is THAT?! I love the title, sounds just like a song she would sing. I’m going to give you a recommendation for a Carpenters song, you may have done, didn’t check. The reason is Harvey Stig recently released it with a full restoration and remastering of the video and audio. His channel is a treasure trove of rescued Carpenters videos.
