Here in Hurricane Alley we can appreciate reliable communications during power outages and inclement weather. HF has their 100w monocrystalline panels for $119 right now. I'm confident a wily geek like yourself could incorporate them with a MPPT charge controller and boost your input meaningfully. I have (2) of their 100w arrays myself, in addition to an ancient 45w array from yesteryear. I'm hopeful of putting an off-grid 2m station hitting our local repeater in Raleigh into service from my barn. 73's!

How do you know what reflector to connect to in 2024?

I always worry about the car wash when attaching antennas and such. Thats why I use magnetic mounts. On and off like nothing.

I checked back here a Year after my first comment. How do you have your "Home" Button" Programmed? Normally there is a "Long Press and Short Press capability" of these Buttons. The Short Press is used when changing Zones. The Short Press will "land You" on the Zone you just changed to. The Long Press will send your radio back to your "Home Zone and Channel" that you choose in Programming. I am 36.5 Years as a LEO and I did all the Radio Comms and Programming for our agency and several surrounding agencies, then after retiring I went to work for a Local Motorola Premier Company. Loved the Programming and Install work. Are you doing all your own programming or use a outside source for this? Programming can be expensive for the Software and Programming Cables. We had our own Motorola Account and stayed current in Software Upgrades and State Trunking P25 and future advancements. This can become very involved and like I said "expensive". Many Public Safety Agencies haven't a clue how expensive solid comms can be and the big issue of Inter Operability capabilities. Sept. 11th. began all this Inter Operability requirements. Nobody could operate on "Shared Inter-Agency" Comms.

Just bought a used 7300 with this done to it with 135w output, i have turned it back to the factory standard of 105w, it gives the same out on PEP, they even fitted a ultra quiet slow fan just to make it overheat and kill it quicker, it was drawing around 25 amps before and now 18 amps. Mic gain set at 40 compression set at 3 gives me full output. Its not a mod its a bodge,

So Terminal Mode can only route to a specific Reflector based on the "Gateway Repeater". I wanted to use this function but you can't simply switch to various Reflectors unlike using a HotSpot.

the Ic 705 and the 905 also both ic 52 and the 50 HT's can do this to!

Don’t do this mod. It will cause you to have a dirty signal. The ic-7300 does have 100 pep. If you want more power, use compression. That’s the trick. Don't forget the Crest Factor. If you read 40 watts on an average watt meter the crest factor is times 2.5. That would be 100 watts PEP. Leave the radio alone.

Hi, can you make Video which explains the G3 Terminal Mode with G3 Gateways, not with XLX Reflectors?

My 7300 will do 105 watts out of the box and I have seen several other that will. Just don't overdo the ALC which is very aggressive on the 7300 and cuts the power back if over driven. If you keep the mic gain and compression set so the ALC is 2/3 to 3/4 scale and no more, you get full power out and a very clean signal - no CB golden screwdriver mod needed!

no need to de-solder .just use jewelers small flat head the diodes pop right off slide up under and just the slightest twist and there gone.I was done in like 10 minutes start to finish.

I realize I’m replying 3 years after the video, but please explain how to make a contact! I may be the only person who doesn’t know this obviously easy process but… I am using an icon 705. The radio is programmed to an XLX reflector just as you demonstrated. When I key once I get both up and down arrows and I can spot my connection on the xlx dashboard so I know the radio is set up properly. What do you do next? I’ve seen some videos change to “use reflector cqcqcq”. I just can’t comprehend that. It’s silly but I’m struggling to understand how to make a contact. Please help by making a short demo!

Or you could simply adjust the mic gain and compression for just under 3/4 scale on the alc meter and you will get full output instead of being overmodulated with the alc cutting power

Nice job drilling the roof top hole. Just got to be careful to not block the sun roof mechanism. I am a true believer in drilling roof top holes for antennas on trucks. They look more professional and have a better radiation pattern; up high with the much larger ground plane. I used to struggle with mounting antennas on the car trunk lip, edge of the hood, or using mag mounts. I've traded in several cars and trucks that had antenna holes drilled and the dealers couldn't care less. The holes don't reduce the value of the car. If you fill the hole with the correct hole plug, they may never even notice especially if it's on the roof of the truck. You can get black or white hole plugs to make them even less noticeable. I also discovered the other type of NMO mount that only requires a 3/8" hole which can be drilled with a drill bit rather than a jagged hole saw; it's easier to drill and easier to plug.

Good vid. I have seen some complain about that HF combiner module that it might loose you power. Make sure to have max cable thickness or just combine it yourself. The thing to check is the output impedance (resistance) of your array and the input impedance of the controller and thence also the battery. Max power only happens when app the impedances (resistances) are matched. On the panels this can be determined by the short circuit amperage amps and volts in peak sunlight or the max power case and the series or parallel arrange you are using. Similar for the battery (I.e. what is its internal resistance). The charge controller is harder to quantify and may be dynamic, so might just have to try different arrangements of panels (series parallel combos) until you get max power.
