This channel uploads old Japanese songs, especially military songs, with English and Romaji subtitles, once or twice a week.
Since I am Japanese, my romaji subtitles are 99% accurate, but my English subtitles may be unnatural.
Information on singers, performers, lyricists, composers, etc. is provided in the description. Please make use of this information if you are interested.
Feel free to request, I'll put a heart on your request comment. Please wait leisurely until it's uploaded once it has got a heart.

Bazoku no uta/馬賊の歌 [With English and Romaji subtitles]
Bazoku no uta / Song of the Mounted Bandits
- Japanese (Folk) Song
Singer: Taro Shoji
Performer: Victor Orchestra
Lyricist: Ikuho Miyajima
Composer: Unknown
[About this song]
This song was published around 1918 by enka singer Ikuho Miyajima. Because this song was spread orally, there are many variations on the lyrics, but they all describe activities as a mounted bandit in Manchuria. The "mounted bandits" refer to horse-riding bandits who have been active mainly in Manchuria since the end of the Qing Dynasty.
During the World War I, Japan had expanded its interests in Manchuria acquired in the Russo-Japanese War, and the scars of the Russo-Japanese War were fading thanks to the economic boom of WWI. However, after the war, Japanese economy turned into a recession, and the theory that Manchuria was a new land of hope became popular among impoverished people. Among them, many young men dreamed of becoming Manchurian mounted bandits, and this song captured the hearts of such young men.
[Rōmaji lyrics]
Boku mo yuku kara kimi mo yukō
Semai nihon nya sumi aita
Nami no kanata nya shina ga aru
Shina nya shioku no tami ga matsu
Ore ni chichi naku haha mo naku
Wakare o oshimu mono mo nashi
Tada itawashi no koibito ya
Yume ni sugata o tadoru nomi
Kinō wa higashi kyō wa nishi
Nagare nagareshi ukikusa no
Hateshinaki no ni tada hitori
Tsuki aoide kusamakura

So glad to learn this song doesn't originate from WWII period Japan, and it's from a bit before that... I can listen to this masterpiece without guilt as a Korean.
