Our New Land
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 4 มี.ค. 2021
We’re full-blood, biological brothers that lived a large portion of our lives separate without even knowing one another existed. We’ve spent the last few years getting to know each other, becoming best friends & developing a brotherly bond that neither of us ever expected to have.
Although we were raised with different families, nature won over nurture & we share a ton of the same interests. Those interests include a love for the outdoors, the desire to challenge ourselves, learn new things, build & create. This led to us buying land to escape the city, get our hands dirty, learn new skills & create lasting memories with our family & friends. We have big plans & are excited to learn, work & shape this property into something we can be proud of. We’ll certainly make mistakes and get frustrated, but that’s all part of the fun & the process of learning and making memories.
Join us on this journey of experimentation, self-discovery, education, family bonding & adventure.

Upcoming Adoption Videos and Fall/Winter Goals for Our Off Grid Property
มุมมอง 654ปีที่แล้ว
The summer's drought and blazing hot temperatures are finally behind us, and we could not be happier to be getting back to work on our property and on our adoption videos. We've created a couple of To Do lists so we can stay focused on what we need to be working on. The first list is our gameplan of upcoming adoption videos that we hope to put together over the next few months. We're excited to...
Spreading Lime to Raise the PH of our Food Plots
มุมมอง 569ปีที่แล้ว
We're back to working on our food plots after we were unsuccessful with the buckwheat this summer. We're going to plant winter wheat again for the fall, but we want to give the ground some nutrients, more so for the spring when we put in our cover crop. It hasn't rained in quite some time and the ground is super hard and dry. Our plan was to break it up before putting down the lime, but we quic...
White Duck Bell Tent Disaster
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
We have been using two 20' White Duck bell tents for less than a year. During that time, we have had to replace several of the bungees that attach the tie-downs to the tent, as they have been destroyed with normal use. Before this month's breakage, White Duck had been very responsive to our calls, quickly sending out replacement bungees. During the recent passing of a small storm cell over our ...
Bell Tent Update and Felling Trees with Ryobi 16" Chainsaw
มุมมอง 741ปีที่แล้ว
We had a crazy storm come through and completely take out Devon's White Duck Avalon bell tent. It was devastating to say the least. In this video Ryan repairs his tent, cuts down a couple tress and gives an update on upcoming content. It's been super hot all through the south and it's tough to work out in the sun past like 10am. Kudos to those that do it for a living, because that's tough work....
How My Adoptive Family Reacted When I Told Them I Found My Birth Family
มุมมอง 110Kปีที่แล้ว
In this video, Devon discusses how members of his adoptive family reacted when he told them he had found his birth family. Because our channel mainly focuses on the birth family that Devon and Ryan share, this is this first video where Devon opens up about his adoptive family. In addition to his adoptive parents and grandparents, Devon talks about his adoptive sister and the fact that she, too,...
Quick Swisher 44" Rough Cut Mower Review

I mow a little over half an acre foot plot where we've put down buckwheat seed. We've had the Swisher mower for over a year and have been very impressed with it. We pull it with a Honda Rancher and you can't even tell it's back there. If you need to mow trails or smaller pastures, it's fantastic. I legit love using it! Upcoming Adoption Videos and Wrapping Our IBC Totes In Plastic
มุมมอง 1.8Kปีที่แล้ว
We've received a ton of comments and questions on our adoption videos recently and we're going to address and talk about some of the most common topics. One of the videos will detail how Devon's adoptive family reacted to the discovery of his biological family. In the other upcoming video, Devon discusses the letter he wrote to our biological father after the connection was made, but before the...
Off-Grid Chores. Mowing, Bell Tents, IBC Totes and Chestnut Tree update!
มุมมอง 1.7Kปีที่แล้ว
Join me for a productive day of chores at our off-grid property. In this video I go through a variety of tasks, including the drop off of 2 IBC totes for our rainwater harvesting project, mowing with the Swisher Mower, checking in on the White Duck Bell Tents and review the health of our thriving chestnut trees. I picked up a new tool earlier this year which I unveil and just have an overall am...
Adoption Reunion: Sibling update and exciting teaser at the end.
มุมมอง 9Kปีที่แล้ว
All of the biological siblings, spouses, kids, our father and stepmother went on an extended weekend vacation recently. I didn't realize it until I was recording this video, but I think this was our first "family vacation" with dad. When we started this channel, we didn't think we'd get as many comments as we do from people about our adoption related content. It's been really amazing, and it mo...
Building Our Shipping Container Shed/Rainwater Roof - Part 4
มุมมอง 5Kปีที่แล้ว
We finish framing and installing the metal roof of our rainwater-catchment shipping container shed. In this video, we install the furring strips and then the metal roof panels. We use metal roofing screws to attach the panels to the strips. The joists get cut to the appropriate length to the allow the shipping container door to fully open without hitting the shed roof. The water-catchment shed ...
6 Month Report on Our Bare Root Dunstan Chestnut Trees
มุมมอง 589ปีที่แล้ว
We planted our bare root Dunstan Chestnut trees 6 months ago on December 1st. It's now the middle of May and all five of the trees are thriving. Although we do have a little insect damage to some of the leaves, the trees are looking healthy and strong. I pose a question in this video, asking for guidance on whether or not we should remove the bamboo stakes that all of the trees are using for su...
Framing Our Shipping Container Shed/Rainwater Roof- Part 3
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
Work continues on our shipping container shed. The roof of this shed will be used to collect rainwater for use on our fruit and chestnut trees. The shed roof is 35' X 12', with an area of 420 ft². With this size roof, we should be capturing over 260 gallons of rainwater for every 1" of rain. Based on last year's rainfall totals, that equates to over 10,400 gallons of fresh rainwater collected f...

Why not attach the magnets directly to the light? Just wondering if there is a reason
Hey there! Such a great question! The glue wouldn't "grab" onto the slick backing of the lights. We tried it and it held for a short while, but soon failed. The glue held on to the magnets a bit better, lasting over a year. But it, too, failed during the second summer. The sun beating on the roof of the shipping container makes the metal too hot to touch. We ended up putting out another video where we screwed donut-shaped magnets to the lights, and they have held up for several years now. Thanks for watching!
Ok well one of my many favorites of yours. ❤❤❤
I’ve rewatched this video a couple of times and it’s my favorite. ❤️
This is very heartwarming. 😍❤😇🥰 I recently got into contact with an adoptee who had been searching for her biological family and she and I have realized that we are in fact biological cousins.
Thank you, Danielle! Small world, right?
@@OurNewLand Just great to have the internet. We haven’t seen each other in person yet since we live a few thousand miles apart. Her biological father died years ago and her biological mother unfortunately died just a few months before she started her biological family tracking which she soon found out so she tracked down the graves of her biological mother’s parents to search for more who are related to them and was able to find me and my father who is the brother of her biological mother since we only live a few miles away from the cemetery their graves are located.
@@DANIELLE_BREANNA_LACY So great! I hope you get to meet her soon!
Great job for your first use of the equipment. The only suggestion I’d make is to place the dirt removed from the ditch on the other side, away from the road. This allows runoff from the road to flow into the ditch.
Thanks for watching! The trench was on the high side of the road, at our steepest corner. So water flows down into the ditch, and the berm is between the ditch and the road. Thanks again!
Thynk you this helped me revive some old battery packs for my wii controllers, I used 2 1,5V since they needed 3V worked like a charm
Excellent! I'm glad it helped you.
Heartbroken for your sister, sounds like she needs some major healing. I hope she gets some.
Thank you, Colleen. She's lost in the wind right now. She is 50 years old, and has no contact with us. She and I have the same birthday, so she would occasionally reach out to me on that day, but it's been a long time since that last happened. Thanks again.
What a lovely story. I'm so glad it had such a great outcome for you.
Thank you so much, Colleen! It has been an amazing experience.
thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Exactly!
Thanks for watching!
I love your property man. It's dream of mine to own some land like that. I got 1.58 acres and it's all on the side of a hill and I'm super close to the road in the front and the back is just all sloped so I cannot stand it. So ready to have some large open flatish land like this. Need me a storage container too. That's a good idea to store your 4 wheeler. I just got a 04 honda rancher 350 and it's seen better days. The radiator fan cuts on when it wants to and it'll smoke a lottle when I first start it up which it wasn't doing when I bought it a few weeks ago. I can tell the bottom ends been replaced but the top end hasn't been so Def going tk see about rebuilding or just buying a new top end.
We have the exact same 4wheeler as yours. Ours looks really, really rough, but it runs like a top. We just recently swapped out the starter, and now it is very dependable. It didn't have brakes when we bought it, but that was an easy fix. Our fan is now hardwired so it automatically turns on when the Honda is running. We were super fortunate to find this property when we did. Land values started to take off right after we closed on the deal. So lucky. The shipping containers have been perfect for us. We keep our machines and tools in them. Thanks a ton for watching!
Where was the fan motor lol
Yeah, sorry about that. This was an early video for us, and we've improved our filming technique since then. Thanks for watching!
Ha - brilliant, thank you! Worked a treat.
Glad it helped!
Dude, I saw that thumbnail of the exact same charger that I have and expected some magic settings within the device. Turned out I just needed two cables instead. Thanks for helping me out with my eneloops!
Excellent! I’m glad it worked for you!
Even better, the disc magnets with countersunk hole you show pop-riveted directly onto the metal clips that hold the light. The splayed end of the pop rivet lives in the countersunk area of the magnet. If you have a shallow one you might have to hammer it down more or grind off the protruding part. Skip the wood and epoxy.
Great idea! Thanks for sharing.
Something I wish I had done BEFORE I filled my container: Paint the insides white for good reflective lighting. Reflection is very important, especially since you might have a bunch of stuff in there blocking direct light. For those of you with dark containers, learn from my mistake and spend the time to paint. Doesn't need to be pretty or perfect. Rent an airless sprayer if you have to and let 'er rip.
Good point, Richard!
What’s the size of the tent?
It is a 20’. Thanks for watching!
What a dumb F driver. I knew it would be f’ed when he was 4 hours late
I have a DNA match that resulted in me discovering a cousin and her boyfriend had given a child up for adoption and about a year later they got married. No one but her parents knew. The DNA match changed that. Once I determined who the mother was, it wasn't long before I shared information about her with the child and vice versa. They lived only an hour away from each other. There were three full siblings also, but they were much younger, because my cousin would not have children for ten years as a punishment for giving up he first child. It looked like all was set for a meeting until the adoptee had a change of heart and felt it would hurt the adoptive parents too much. I wish everyone could be as accepting of the change in circumstances as your family has been. I applaud all of you for being mature, kind, and loving. Surely there is love enough to share with all.
Wow, that is a lot to unpack! Thank you for sharing, and thanks for watching!

Everyone is replying talking about the small rechargables, anyone try a the big ones for tools? Thanks
I've seen videos where it works with tool batteries, but I've never had success with it. I think I need to keep the tool batteries connect to each for several minutes instead of a few seconds. I'll try that next time, and if it works for me, I'll post a video of it. Thanks for watching!
I hope you both are doing well and your land is still progressing. I was thinking of you both and your channel today. So I decided to come and see what you have been up too. I hope everything is well.
Thanks for thinking of us! We're doing great, thanks. We spent this past weekend with our sister and father, and had a great time. Our land is progressing, though our food plots got totally fried over the summer. We need rain! Our 45 chestnuts are doing well in their grow tubes. We are looking forward to planting those at the property in a few months. I hope you guys are doing well!
@@OurNewLand we are doing well, have not been spending a lot of time on our farm, just to many other things going on to get there.
Ok. I have done my 2 containers, and this is how I did it. I got the 2-pack of shop lights from costco, 3 packs/6 lights per 40' container. I bought 100 lb magnets from amazon. I used #6 flat head screws, so they fit in the countersunk side of the magnet, and washers and nuts. You simply mark the fixture where you want a magnet, which might vary depending on the highs/lows of the steel, and if it is bent a lot. Drill a hole in the centerline of the fixture, LOOSELY put the magnet and screw on the top side, washer and nut on the inside. You leave about 1/2" slack on the threads, since the backside of those lights is recessed. Nylock nuts for the screws would be smart so they don't loosen over time. I then also bought magnetic hooks from amazon to help manage the cord between lights and on the end. Super simple, and I see no reason to buy a bunch of yard sticks. Now that I am done I need to go back through and pull a string line to line them all up so they don't look like they were installed by a drunk guy.
Sound like a great idea, Richard! Thanks for sharing.
I love my 4 adoptive children more than anything else in life. Mara, Krystal, Mía, and Kloe. They are small and fluffy, playful and loving. God, I adore my felines!
I get it! Thanks for watching!
I wasn't placed for adoption but Ive never known my father... My son waited until after my mom passed (to be respectful and not hurt her feelings) and he bought my the ancestry kit... Remember I'm trying to find my father.... Took the test...long story short... I eventually found out who my father was (he had passed by that time ) Okay so it is what it is right .... NOPE!!! I was contacted by a woman who manages her daughters ancestry account.... This girl is my niece Megan!!!! My sister's daughter...Kathy was born when I was 17 months old and placed for adoption... A loving family in Texas adopted her. Sadly Kathy had passed and my niece was adopted by a wonderful family, which is who reached out to me.. My mom took her secret to her grave but because of my son insisting that I do the ancestry kit I found Megan and a few others. I just wanted to share that with you all. I'm so glad that you found your bio family 😊
That is awesome! I'm glad you've made connections, and I hope you stay in contact with them. I'm sure it feels great knowing your family history on your father's side. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Devon and Ryan, I want to throw out an idea to you both of doing another Livestream. This would give us the opportunity to connect with you both and see what's been happening the last almost 10 months. Miss seeing your videos and this would be a good opportunity to connect once again.
That's a great idea, Ben! Please send us some questions to tackle. Ryan and I spent last weekend with our brother-in-law and had a blast! We discussed getting back to making videos, and we will this fall. We hope all is well with you!
@@OurNewLand A couple questions I would have are: Were you able to get new Tents setup at your property and the highlights and struggles with that? Where are you with the Shipping Container sheds and are you both happy with the final outcome if done? How did the Summer season treat you both and your families and some highlights of your Summer vacations together? General update on the property as far as Tree planting, Food plots and any other interesting facts since your last video. A Live might be a good opportunity to have your cousin on to talk and compare stories between the 3 of you. I'm sure plenty of the viewers that can attend the Livestream will have many more in the Live comment section as well.
@@benburns5995 All are great questions! I discussed it with Ryan, and we will plan to do a live the evening of Sept 30th. We will post about it next week, and I will probably do a practice pop-up Live before then so I can make sure I remember how to do it. Thanks again for your interest and support!
@@OurNewLand Thanks, looking forward to the Livestream. Will try to catch the practice stream if I can.
@@benburns5995 We've had to delay our Live session. Our stepmother died in a car accident a few days ago, so we are focused on our father's wellbeing. We still plan to do a Live, but it'll be later next month now. Our father and stepmother were engaged when we found each other 25 years ago, so I've known her as long as I've known him.
Great job and the list of dos and don’t. We are hoping to get a 20 footer soon on our remote land and what you’ve gone thru will certainly help us with our first one. Where’s the vid on the roof project?
Congrats on getting a shipping container! I’m on my phone so I can’t easily search our videos, but it’s in our Shipping Container playlist. We need to do a video on how we made our shipping container doors function better. We will do that soon. Feel free to ping us with any questions you have. We’ve added a solar system to our first SC, and we will be expanding it to the second SC and to the covered area we have between the two. You’re going to love your container!
Can someone show one of these doing more than cutting tall grass please?
Our grass gets torched in the summer, so we won't be cutting it again until next spring. In the past, we have used it to cut winter wheat that was over 4-foot tall, and it did a great job! It never bogged down, though we did slow our driving speed a bit to make sure ever stalk was cut. We are still very pleased with the mower. Thanks for watching.
❤
Thanks again, Michelle!!!
Awesome video
Thanks, Michelle! I think that is my favorite video on our channel. It felt great talking about it. Take care!
That's kinda sad about his adopted-sister, her birth-mother not wanting to know her is so sad and she must be lost - I hope he can find her one day and be her big-bro once again!
It is sad. My birth sister and I have the same birthday, 4 years apart. Once again, I had no way to reach out to her to wish her a happy birthday. Thank you for watching and for thinking of her.
The No Dummy comment made me LOL.
Excellent! If I can bring a smile, I’m happy with that. Thanks for the comment!
Id give you a hug if I could,if you needed brother hope your well 🙏, your strong
Thanks man! All is good. I've been blessed with two wonderful families, so I am more fortunate than most. Thanks again!
Hoq much is that generator?
That thing is more than 10 years old. All I know is it was overpriced at the time. More recently I’ve purchased the BLUETTI EB3A for under $200. I’ve been pleased with it. Thanks for watching!
Are those 1 trip units?
No, they had multiple trips. They had dents and scrapes galore. Thanks for watching!
Ok, a little advice, first put down 2- 2x8s or 2x10, with 4 pieces of pipe between them, have an extra 2 by ready for when you reach the end of the bottom one, it will roll just fine, just recirculate the pipes, and use a snatch block so you double the pull
Great tips! Thanks for watching!

What was your brother’s reaction when he first met u?
That's a good question. In short, he handled it much better than I would have in his place. He was just about to turn 17 at the time we met (he is 12.5 years younger than me). If I would have been in his position, I would have been mad at my parents, and scared that this new guy coming out of nowhere would take attention and love from my parents that "should" have been all mine. Needless to say, I was a self-centered immature kid at that age. He was inquisitive about me instead of worried and/or angry about the situation. Very early on, he told me he had always wanted an older brother, and he was happy he now have one. Fast forward 25 years later, and he is now my best friend. I'm very tight with our sister, too, but Ryan and I talk/text multiple times every single day. It's currently 9:15am here, and we've already spoken on the phone and exchanged texts. Thanks for watching.
HI I'm new here to this channel I'm running some of your playlist now

?
Yes
After I re-install my chain, I'm going to try moving that handle. Great tips. Thank you for posting.
I’m glad you found the video to be helpful. Thanks for the feedback! One more tip for you. For the first couple of years of owning Ryobi chainsaws (we have three including the pole saw), we used generic bar oil purchased in gallon jugs from the big box stores. We recently switched over to Ryobi bar oil, and we have found it to work much better than the generic stuff. The Ryobi oil is quite a bit more viscous, so we experience less leakage during storage and less oil getting cast off during use. Take care.
Thanks for sharing, i saw you at Tuber chat today
Thanks for checking out our channel! I really appreciate it!
