City of Lebanon, Ohio - Municipal-Owned Utility Solar Project
After a public bidding process, Kokosing Solar was selected as the Design-Build Partner for the City of Lebanon Solar Project. In a unanimous vote, the City Council approved the $13.4M solar project largely due to the long-term financial benefits to its ratepayers. Lebanon is the seventh largest municipal-owned utility in Ohio.
Over the solar system’s lifespan, it is projected to save the City and its utility customers over $27M, will help the City diversify its sources of electricity, and will serve as an attractive showpiece for the community. The projected cost of the solar arrays will be reduced by about 30% through the federal Investment Tax Credit direct-pay program.
This project will include ground mount arrays across three city-owned properties, spanning a combined total of 41 acres of undevelopable city-owned land. Kokosing Solar is expected to break ground in the spring and complete the project by the end of 2024. Kokosing Solar will self-perform the full scope of construction.
The project award caps a long selection process that began in January 2023. Kokosing Solar was selected as the best-value RFQ respondent to complete a project feasibility study for the City to demonstrate the technical and financial viability of the project. The study was delivered to the City’s satisfaction in late May, culminating in the successful award of the EPC contract.

    I am in the planning stage for a new home build in Trumbull County, which is served by Ohio Edison. I'll be building an approx 2500 sqft all electric house with high efficiency heat pump mechanicals and advanced insulation and air sealing details. I live alone, so there will not be a huge load, but I do plan to purchase an electric vehicle in the future and I want to generate enough electricity on site to drive 10000 miles per year. I'm trying to determine a ballpark cost of the solar/battery system I'll need to provide all of my usage needs. I'm not particularly interested in selling electricity back to the utility at their pathetic rates.

    What % of applicants get the 50% grant? What is the scoring system based on? TY

    • @kokosingsolar
      @kokosingsolar 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The % awarded varies from state to state. For information specific to your locality, contact a local solar installer or agency who specializes in writing REAP Grants for these details. Criteria for scoring includes energy generated (saved/replaced), whether the applicant is a previous recipient, the length of the payback period, whether the project is located in a classified "disadvantaged" or "distressed" community, the environmental benefits, and possible additional criteria per state rules. More details can be found here: www.rd.usda.gov/inflation-reduction-act/rural-energy-america-program-reap Good luck with your project!

    Just wanted U to know this video convinced to install my two PW2+ batteries INSIDE. I live in Massachusetts. Basement installations now require a fire-proof room. And that’s what I’m going to do since my primary objective is furnace operation during winter power loss. Who would want batteries cutting off when they’re most needed? Although stated operating range is -4°F to 122°F, recommended range is 32°F to 86°F. In a foot note, it states battery performance less efficient below 50°F or greater than 109°F. Keep those puppies INSIDE!

    • @kokosingsolar
      @kokosingsolar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question and we'll do our best to answer here. Please reach out if this doesn't completely answer your question! Enphase is transitioning many of its components to a new naming system. The components include the Encharge IQ battery (3 or 10), Enpower smart switch, IQ Envoy, Enphase combiner 3, or a third party circuit panel for solar branches. At Third Sun Solar, we also include an exterior battery disconnect for first responders, although it is not required for the state of Ohio. The new IQ8s WITH battery have all the same components although they have been upgraded specifically for the IQ8s. In the same order the components are as follows Enphase IQ batteries(3T or 10T), System Controller 2, IQ Gateway, and Combiner 4. The difference with the IQ8s is batteries are not needed if the customer would only like light backup energy in the event the sun is out.

    Every time I research these batteries I hear so much about grid down which is ok I guess. but I want to hear more about Time of Use. Does it make sense to get a battery for Time of Use? I know each location has different power prices and some places don't offer Time of Use however, can we not get a baseline example to explain?

    • @kokosingsolar
      @kokosingsolar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Craig, here in Ohio time of use rates don't apply. But it is something we believe is coming. Here's how it works: when the grid experiences peak demand, say during the summertime when folks are running their AC's and pool pumps the most, say electricity will cost 50 percent more during peak hours (2pm - 7 pm) than during off-peak hours. If your electric bill is $200, and that half of the electricity you need comes during those peak hours. In this example, your $200 bill would increase to $250. Your solar installer should be able to explain how this applies in your particular situation -- each home uses electricity at different times/ different hours. Thanks for watching!

    Is cadmium used in solar panels? Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) is a commonly used material in thin film solar modules. Cadmium is a heavy metal and extremely dangerous. ... In relation to solar panels, the CdTe is safe while encapsulated in the module, but if the panel is damaged and exposed to water, the cadmium telluride could leach into the water. also Cadmium poisoning may be caused by ingestion of food (e.g. grains, cereals, and leafy vegetables) and cigarette smoke. Occupational exposure to cadmium in metal plating, battery, and plastics industries may also occur. also CADMIUM POISONING Cadmium is used for many items, including electroplating, storage batteries, vapor lamps and in some solders. The onset of symptoms may be delayed for two to four hours after exposure. Overexposure may cause fatigue, headaches, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and fever. In addition, progressive loss of lung function (emphysema), abnormal buildup of fluid within the lungs (pulmonary edema), and breathlessness (dyspnea) may also be present. In some cases, affected individuals may exhibit increased salivation; yellowing of the teeth; an unusually rapid heart beat (tachycardia); low levels of iron within the red blood cells (anemia); bluish discoloration (cyanosis) of the skin and mucous membranes due to insufficient oxygen supply to these tissues; and/or an impaired sense of smell (anosmia). Individuals with cadmium poisoning may also experience improper functioning of the canals with the kidney (renal tubular dysfunction) characterized by excretion of abnormally high levels of protein in the urine (proteinuria), minor changes in liver function, and/or softening of certain bones (osteomalacia).
