i was at Dalby yesterday on the red route.. second time for me on my Ex-e. manage the full route on a fully charged battery.. last week when the conditions were much colder i ran out of duce at 17 miles.. all good fun even for an old git like me..

went for a ride on my rail and my buddy was on a new fuel exe. He couldn't keep up on the climbs, crashed coming off a rock drop and was out of battery when we got back to the car (20 mile ride). Just say'n.

Did you weigh that bike? The Santa Cruz website says 22.45 kg for the R build kit.

Stock tires are crap on this bike so I slapped on some 38 Marathon Plus and added puncture protection with Mr. Tuffy tire liners along with Slime tubes. I own a Trek Checkpoint and have not had a puncture since upgrading to my triple protection method. Highly recommend this bike with the triple protection method.

Coming from a vintage SantaCruz 5010c I had built in 2014, I bought a Heckler SL this summer and it’s difficult to look back. One of the most engaging, fun and fulfilling bikes I’ve ever ridden and has inspired me to totally up my game in riding frequency, duration and gnarliness. Well done SC! 👏🏻

hey this bike will be in low selling market for only special customers. motor is too weak to go in local e enuro race events. now they make new rail and new bosch gen 5 . too bad this should have bosch full power and 600 wh new baterry in. That will be awsome to change rail to slash :(

I bought one of these last month and its great apart from the brakes juddering and making a noise through the frame - even after cleaning/sanding they sound really bad after bedding in!

Nice bar and stem combo. Also the round spacers are fire. All this perfectly matches this semi aero shaped frame. Good job trek, you clearly did not cheap out on components

Can you fit a dropper seat to this bike?

Investors been riding the SL5 on Arizona trails for 2 years. It is superb.

Unfortunately the Trek SL5 (I own one) is not geared for climbing fully loaded and does not have capacity to install a winder range cluster. Suffice to say its a huge compromise when bike packing or touring. In hindsight Cannondale may have been a better choice

I upgraded to this last week from a Trek Dual Sport 1 that I bought 3 months ago. Night and day, this is by far the best bike I've ever owned.

Great review. I bought this bike yesterday, on sale, from $5300 to $4500. This is my first road bike and the first bike I've purchased since 1997. I never thought I would pay $4500 for a bicycle but I told myself that this was an investment in health, fitness, mental, and leisure. The bike is amazing. It's referred to as the AXS or ETap. It uses SRAM Rival electronic shifting. I prefer SRAM over Di2 because it's easier to use and the shifting is simple. I took it out yesterday for a test ride of about 10 miles. It performed amazingly. Carbon makes a big difference, and comfort-wise, it was great. The 32mm tires makes it even more comfortable. I am not any type of hardcore rider, I don't race, I don't do group ride, and I don't belong to any clubs. I just ride for enjoyment and cardio. I could have gotten away with the Domane AL 5 Gen 4 or any non-carbon fiber non-electrical shifting model for the type of riding I do. But I thought to myself, "what the heck." But I'm loving this bike and glad I went with Trek over the other brands.

If the US bike companys keeps this marketing strategy with worse bike for more money and a lot of marketing nonsense they will not survive. Companies like Canyon and the Chinese brands will take the market.

Is this battery easily removeble?

I see what they were trying to do here by blending the two models, but this just doesn’t get the mix right for me. I think I did a better job by buying my 2024 Emonda SL7 and strapping ENVE 65s onto it. Maybe Trek should have tried a recipe of aero’ing up the Emonda rather than trimming the Gen 7 Madone?

Half of that weight loss is purely the new group set. Older bike looks better and doesn’t have stupid aero bottles.

Hello Lucy, I am 70+ and am a cycling enthusiast. During prolonged riding, the arms especially around the elbow feels stiff due to holding on to the handle bar for long period of time. Is there a exercise or different posture or additional fittings that we can install in the cycle for alternative posture. Please advise.

I wonder about ZEB Select+, does this model have HCS,LCS settings? I am about to decide if go Slash 9 or Norco Sight A1 2024 and these settings are last things where to decide for me:) thanks
