Kato N700S Bullet Train Unboxing - Full 16 Car Set!
i have 5 of these, and they're great locos. 20 freight wagons... NO PROBLEM
Super powerful, you can tell
I have found something you may like It’s a N scale model that looks similar to the Thomas and friends characters of Donald and Douglas from the TV show . It’s called a Fowler 4F steam engine and it’s a black 0-6-0 tender engine who looks fairly similar . I have recently bought one and it’s arriving by December … well my grandad got it me as a Christmas gift from him to me . From eBay actually . Anyways if you want them to look like Donald and Douglas I recomend getting two of them to be together becasue in the tv program they were twins and there always was two of them in a double header formation . Meaning 2 of them up the front pulling some coaches or wagons . Anyways they have been made for many MANY years by different people . The first ones for N scale from Lima what are simple to come by . However are the worse ones and don’t run very well . The next is a company you don’t like … Bachman . Or grahamfarish as there N scale line is in the uk . They have been made twice from them . One as a older version and the updated one (what I am getting being the more modern model) Anyways from what I have seen they look really nice . And if you do end up getting two of them together I feel they could pull LOTS together It also tetnically would expand the Thomas collection too . Like that Dapol engine you got who looks like duck . These looking like Donald and Douglas would also help as tomix never made them Meaning we can add them to the roster of Thomas , James , percy, Toby , duck the Dapol pannier , Donald and Douglas the Bachman fowler 4f engines And Bachman is making both Gordon and Henry too . Filling in spots 3&4 So even tho you don’t like Bachman I recomend these models anyways cuz they seem quality enough as to where they have no faults in the working of them . Seeming to be the best thing Bachman has ever made in there N scale line up To find them go on eBay and type in “ grahamfarish N scale fowler 4F tender engine” And then you will get results of all 3 model types of it . Get the one that is with its box and that works . And if the first one turns out good when it arrives then get a second to go with the first to go together to pull longer . It’s realistic to have two together . May cost more but it’s worth the money to see how cool it will look once all done 😊 Keep smiling and never give up . Love these videos and genuinely the channel as a whole . Have a good day and bye ❤
@@MaxwellTheTrainFan Lots to think about 😆
@@ModelTrainsWow ye
This is an awesome set from Tomix. Both the model and prototype.
@@CMDModels1 Truth!
I wish I had the space for lots of track like that All I have the space for is the M1 set . And that’s what I am getting first And I intend to hopefully grab the V5 set to make a second loop inside it next year Then also to make it so trains can cross the tracks from one to the other without me picking it up and using my hands to swap the whole train to the other line . Maybe the X track would work . Who knows ? Anyways I hope to get my mission done . and perhaps a new engine maybe too . Anyways bye . Enjoy your day ❤
Then you will see, it will grow from there 😂
@@ModelTrainsWow it’s quite litterally a wooden table Getting the M1 track for Christmas from my mom apparently . And the V5 to add a inside loop and second controller Maybe a V3 to give sidings And the crossing X track to swap lines Tho that’s just my thoughts . And that it will all hopefully fit inside the M1 loop and on-top the table Tho that’s my head thinking . And I need money to begin with 🤣
@MaxwellTheTrainFan Money always seems to be the problem here 🤣
@@ModelTrainsWow always will be Forever more . If it were up to me I would have 15 engines all in a row and 28 more as stunt doubles 🤣
I have this Chicago Metra set in N scale, it’s running on my N scale layout.
Then you KNOW 😅
Model trains… WWWOOOOOWWW!!!!!!
Wow! 😎😁
Nice
I have a fact for you about toby here He acctually has moving siderods under his skirting on him Bachman may not be the best ever but they fit the smallest details in there models . I mean you can’t even see it unless you took him apart tho Bachman put it there anyways to give detail . And honestly that’s the coolest part about this model It’s something that the real Toby had and they replicated it on this model Tho something the real Toby could also do was remove the skirting on the sides and front and back of him to be more like a conventional steam engine for things like maintenance . Tho this model can’t do that cuz it’s all a mould it would be cool for Bachman to make a second Toby perhaps without the side skirting on to make it like the other variant of tram . Tho that’s just my thoughts . Anyways good review . And hope to see more of toby . Oh and Gordon’s Bachman model has been shown with its colour on earlier and wow dose he look good all painted up in his blue with red lines . Bye ✌🏽
Lol, this is correct. There are sidrods on Toby if you look underneath.
Just casually removed a part from a new model out of box 😂😂😂 Bro decapitated the front end 😂 Anyways good review . Tho shocked me that he just removed the smoke deflectors . I mean I know for the engines over in the uk where I live like flying Scotsman can do that from time to time . Can remove smoke deflectors . Tho I didn’t think it would happen to a USA engine 😂😂😂 Good review
AWESOME, EXCELLENT and PERFECT!!!!! Thank you for sharing and keep up the good work.
I think you need to account for Kato Shinkansen being 1:160 scale instead of 1:150
Great video. I really like your rating scheme. I'm really sorry to have to take you to task on the coupler thing. Just my opinion but returning the loco for that reason alone doesn't make sense to me. Get yourself one pair of micro-trains trucks. They are not terribly expensive. You can then replace the rapido trucks on one end of two of your existing freight cars. It is an easy task. You will then have two "transition" cars. (Rapido on one end, knuckle on the other.) I wish I had seen this video sooner. Since this video was posted 7 years ago maybe you have already done so by now. Again, just my opinion. Your railroad and you can run it anyway you want.
Yeah, I could of. And looking back perhaps I should have. But it was more of the principal of the thing. That plus this was early on when I first started collecting and this was one of my most expensive purchases, and I just didn't want to deal with it. I thought I could find the same model later for cheaper but alas, I have not. I have since however do have two converter cars now, one passenger one and a freight one.
A lot of effort went into that layout, but my mind rejects most of the rock work and mountains as not realistic enough.
@@genelane2243 Yeah, they definitely went for more of a cartoony vibe.
Do you now if this is DCC ready like the KATO model? Can you help me check? The two end units would have a small door on the under side for a lighting decoder, and the motorized car would be able to be open from bottom by sliding the plastic piece where you can slide in a normal DCC decoder. Please and thank you!
Hey, I looked but then again I don't really know what I'm looking for as I've never installed DCC. I also rather not have to open up my engine if I don't have to. So... I'm not sure? I couldn't confirm yes or no.
@@ModelTrainsWow No worries, if under the end cars you don't see a little door, then it looks like it's not DCC ready. I ended up getting the Kato version that I will just install my own lights into. Thank you!
How in the world do you get in there to maintain stuff?
There are secret hatches and people-sized tunnels where they need them. Some large lay-out also have "cherry picker" type equipment to allow a person to get above the layout easily. There are vids here on YT about an enormous layout in Germany (Miniatur Wunderland) that take you behind the scenes to see those secrets.
@genelane2243 Cool I'll check it out. Thanks!
I have a car jump start power bank with a 12V output. Can I use it to power up the Kato Power Pack Standard SX unit?
I suppose that could work but as jump start power banks are designed for short bursts of energy rather than continuous power supply.
@@ModelTrainsWow Thanks for your reply.
TBH i want a layout like your's i'm so jealous
It's different but it works 😁
Do you ever vacuum the carpet around and under the tracks?
No need for under, I have a little handheld one I'll go around the carpet with every so often. On the track, I have a separate vacuum car that does the job there I run once a month.
Love Tomix, I've got a set about 2.4 meter x 560 mm approx twin track and couple of sidings.. Bought the 700 8000 this week to go with my 2x blue and container train. I wish there were more videos about taking apart .
Nice.
Great video! I've loved Big Boys since I was young, and started HO model railroading when I was 8 years old. Had many layouts and changed over to N scale around 30 years ago. Back then I was buying all of the N scale Rivarossi Big Boys and Challengers made in Italy, and I have around 5 converted to DCC as well. I also like collecting the limited edition and quite expensive box sets like the Portland Rose, etc sold by Con-Cor.
Right on
Grayhound is the way to go looks great
My thoughts exactly, lol
GOD... I miss Johnny Cash.. RIP MAN IN BLACK
I remember him doing commercials for STP around this same time, but I'd forgotten about these.
❤😊 I love it and I want one one day
It's pretty great thus far! 😁
🤠🖐🚂💭
The Union Pacific greyhound paint scheme is real. Some of the steam engines wore that until they were replaced by diesels. 2 variations of it were made one had yellow lining, and the other had silver lining
Good to know!
Well, at least we have the old videos that the original up 844 was viewed in, but this I to think it's cool the up 844 in greyhound paint is cool and it has its new number 8444 that it wore from 1962-1989
What do you want for the original ?
Up for sale right now, take your pick: www.mercari.com/us/item/m95777142895/ www.ebay.com/itm/326265462469
for me its Greyhound with smokedeflectors and the normal one without cause the black and silver look great together, but silver and grey not so much
Great find! I've been looking for that one for under $200 for quite a while.
Yep, it took a while, but here it is 😅
@@ModelTrainsWowwhere did you buy it from?
@@mgar2112 Snagged this from Godlewski Trains
AWESOME!!!!!
You have am awesome mix of trains and countries, just the way I like it.
I like variety 😂 Many people, particularly Americans tend to stick to American trains only or even a specific time for "authenticity". You see some people's collection and they have 90% BNSF engines that all pretty much look the same. Where's the fun in that?
That's massive! And I thought the SCMaglev layout in Nagoya and the Heimwehfluh in Interlaken were big...
Ooo... I'll have to check that out!
Your camera is out of focus most of the time.
lol, literally the first video I made and realized that pretty quickly but wasn't about to redo it all. The quality vastly improves, especially the more recent stuff.
Take it apart and clean it really well on the inside. These can easily be fixed by cleaning up the pickup points and removing the excess graphite from the armature and spool, perhaps replacing the brushes etc. . Judging by the discoloring on the gears, it has seen quite a bit of use so it could be the brushes are just worn out. I had an older Marklin H0 loco do exactly the same thing and replacing the brushes and clearing out the old graphite residue made a really big difference. Nice stuff you got at the convention.
Good to know. I really like the look of this one, shame it doesn't work "out of the box" as well as my other Life Likes I like lots 😁
Besides the extra feeder joints, you could also take the loco apart and check if there's grease or oil on any of the contact pick up points. I bought a few older (40+ years) minitrix and arnold trains and I just gave it a good cleanup as oil and grease was all over the place. The seller probably thought s/he did me a favor to lube the whole thing a bit too enthusiastically. Once cleaned and lubed with moderation and the carbon brushes replaced, it's all great.
Yep, that's my next course of action lol. A full teardown cleaning. Risky... but what to I have to lose?
@@ModelTrainsWow it's not too difficult. I always take pictures along the way just in case. The good thing aboutb the older models is that they were built according to high standards. I have many locos from 40-60 years ago and all run well. That will be another interesting video to watch! Good luck
Great video! I always love going down there! I can’t wait for #1010 to be restored!
@@TheGs4_4449 Twas my first time! Probably the best setup I've seen for a train museum.

Usually cannot go wrong with Kato Nice looking engine. Thanks for sharing. Dave
Very solid, even the older ones, for sure
Seeing your lighted passenger car blinking on and off, make me wonder if its time to clean the track. Thanks for sharing! My only bargain loco purchase was a complete success.
@@aldimore lol, nice.
I wish someone could give me this bullet train or get me it or buy me it or I just buy it if I buy it it’s in Riyadh and the other 500 bullet train cheaper are in Japan
The 500 bullet train this is my dream bullet train. I wish I had one of these but they are too expensive. They are like $1000 for an 8 year old 500 bullet train
Yeah they can be expensive! Keep an eye out for a deal though, they are out there 😉
Have you considered adding some more feeder tracks/joints? It looks like it is sensitive to voltage drops? I have to say I don't know how I found your channel but I absolutely love it. Your take on model railroad is like nothing I have ever seen, keep doing what you are doing and be yourself!
Yeah, I was just experimenting with that actually. I think I figured it out, I moved a feeder closer to the crossover. And haha, thanks! You don't really ever see N scale with Legos, but for me I think it works 😁
@@ModelTrainsWow You can add multiple feeders from one power pack. Your layout is huge so voltage drops are to be expected.
@@rzezniqq Yeah I already got 3 on there. All was fine until I added that double crossover switch. The left side is fine but the approach from the right is slow because it's now super far from the feeder by the time it gets there. That crossover switch doesn't pass power so it needs to be powered from each side independently. I think I got it working now 😉
@@ModelTrainsWow where did you get that Lego railway Cannon? It's really cool
@@Abrahams_stuff Hmmm... I bought it years ago somewhere online, can't remember where lol. But if you want to know more, see my Lego channel video 🙂 th-cam.com/video/LvMbu7-ih7s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UASaFpzfWuBtASuY
Interesting concept, I only run DC and would like to try sound. This seems a great idea, but too susceptible to track which isn’t spotless. Have you considered a Kato soundbox, although they are expensive.
I find sound to be not so much worth it. It's cool in concept but it doesn't sound very good to me in real life, so it's not worth the extra cost to improve the experience.
The blue A4 locomotive
On a real metra train, the second level is open to the center of the train. Most of the seats up there face toward the inside and fold down like stadium seats. I used to love going up there as a kid. Loads of memories on these trains. They really nailed the window tinting.
Never been on it myself but I saw it roll by once when I was in Chicago lol
