These bikes will never get old eheh I use a 97 XR600 and I ride it every day to work and ride on trails, I cant see my self ever getting rid of this thing. You Sir are a beast hehe
There’s a 17 hp disadvantage for the XR yet he’s right there. Granted rider skill plays a big role but shows you that modern 450 are over powered for must people and riding.
Yeah totally sounds sick I got 2 xr600s so many people seem to not rebuilt these properly either unfortunately this is the kind of place a stock xr600 was made for dunes and desert racing no wonder you can pull away from your pack even though this bullet proof engine is clapped out nice riding
That was a cool ride-along! Your bike sounds great! I've got a 1981 XR500R that I'm trying to sort out. I need to find someone who knows these things in central Maine
As they say..."no replacement, for displacement" I had an '87 and a '97 600R. Both with suspension and engine upgrades. Loved them both, and ran the piss out of them. In '05, I drank the orange kool aid, and have 2 of them. Don't regret it...but I truly regret selling my '97 XR. KTM's are terrific....but there is just ....."something about XR's". I have talked to a lot of guys who have done the same thing, and feel the same way. I have ridden newer CRF's, that friends have.....great bikes! But.....like I said. There is just something XR's.
Since basically 2020 the used market went away here in western new york. You need a few grand set aside for when you find a decent specimen within driving distance cause people are keeping them or buying them more often than selling.
When the XR can stretch its legs it can leave behind the Modern 450's - You have great Skill in the Sand I think that's the Biggest difference - Rider Skill 😎👍
They are the Chinese replica of the rox pivoting risers, they have been holding up fairly well, it's been more than a year since I installed them and so far so good, as you can tell in the videos there are almost no turns so I can ride mostly standing up, but in a more tight trail or maybe a track they are probably not the best option as the rise is considerable and makes it more difficult to turn the bike.
I haven't had the chance to ride a 400, but I believe it really depends on where you ride them, maybe in the wide open stuff where you only use 4th and 5th the 600 could have an advantage, but in many other scenarios the 400 could probably be faster as I heard is a lot more light and nimble than the 600. I had a 97 250r (pretty similar to the 400 in general except the motor) and despite the clear difference in power, it was so light and easy to ride that you could go wide open the entire trail and not be as near as tired as in the 600, that obviously was a faster bike, but much more heavy and with different ergonomics.
Neither are faster than the other innately imo at least. The 250 and 400 can be slammed a little more if only just cause the smaller surges and vibes from the power are less tiring. One does tight twisties a lil better the other does open riding a little better. Don't ever sell that 400 thats one of the bikes that I let get away.
I have a 2000 400r with pumper carb and aftermarket muffler. No other mods. And I have an 87 dual carb 600r that is low hour all original. Up to 40 mph or so I don’t think one is faster than the other. Above 40 the 600 just starts walking away. The 400 feels so much more refined though. Feels like driving a sports car compared to a 3/4 ton truck when I ride them back to back. Oh I forgot, both have 2003 CRF 450 forks on them.
I really appreciate that! I been trying to improve my riding technique by watching videos and so, but it's really difficult to me to stay in the correct position and maintain a good posture as I'm 6'6" and I stay really cramped on the bike. But other than that I really enjoy riding and I always have fun and that is already really important haha. Thanks for commenting and watching! Take care!
I’ve had a lot of bikes and my favorite is my XR, just such a beast, easy to ride, tons of power, just great.
where did you get that handlebar? it's a 28 mm I think, did you only get the riser?
Watch out for the fence like a cheese slicer
600 doesn't even sound like it's trying hard.
"Guy on bike ride around alone" Fixed your BS clickbait title
There’s nothing like an XR.
Lucky bastards ❤

Rivero.
👍👍
What an amazing place to ride, where is it?
Yup why we can't have a modern push rod air cooled 4 stroke with good suspension blows my mind. Imagine a modern xr400 or xr600😱
Well a pushrod engine will screw it up from the start. That's why OHC took over.
@ekspatriat True but a modern push rod or ohc simple motor sounds great!
lets be fair... a modern 450 have about 10 more hp then a xr600... so that says something about the xr600
Only those of us who ride XR250's know why he sat through this whole ride.
I live my 97.

Modern 450s can't pay that power down without tons of wheel spin where the XR torque is smooth and just grips so good
HONDA old school ... eats every terrain and motorcycles ! Great Rider !!
Yeah totally sounds sick I got 2 xr600s so many people seem to not rebuilt these properly either unfortunately this is the kind of place a stock xr600 was made for dunes and desert racing no wonder you can pull away from your pack even though this bullet proof engine is clapped out nice riding
Oh my lord I can’t wait to get mine built!!!
Are you at the great lakes
A good rider on a bad bike will be a bad rider on a good bike every time, you got some good Sand skills, props.
Thanks!!
Thing was made for the dezert!
Where are y'all riding and what kind of camera setup?
En el aire bro
Esaaaaa
👍 XR is the best 👊

Where did you ride? nice xr
Shame there was a quad rider out there with ya, otherwise perfect video
Skill gap
Idk whats better the music or the eye-candy of the rippen

I have 18 EXCF350 but will never part with my 93XR650L with modded trans, kickstart and aloop.
I just picked up an 85 xr600 🤙
Where are you guys finding those mint older XR's? Are they easily found where you are?
Since basically 2020 the used market went away here in western new york. You need a few grand set aside for when you find a decent specimen within driving distance cause people are keeping them or buying them more often than selling.
Just got a 95 250R. Rebuild will cost about twice the purchase price. But I love it. Worth every penny
You got good eyes riding in this terrain. Some of those dunes can be misleading. Nice job!
XR keeps up with newer bikes for less than a third of the price.
When the XR can stretch its legs it can leave behind the Modern 450's - You have great Skill in the Sand I think that's the Biggest difference - Rider Skill 😎👍
@@rrivero7512 dale gracias 👍
Got to get oil temperature guage. Have them on my XRs.
Are those Rox pivoting risers? how do you like them?
They are the Chinese replica of the rox pivoting risers, they have been holding up fairly well, it's been more than a year since I installed them and so far so good, as you can tell in the videos there are almost no turns so I can ride mostly standing up, but in a more tight trail or maybe a track they are probably not the best option as the rise is considerable and makes it more difficult to turn the bike.
where is this place?
It's in Uruguay, thanks for watching!
How much faster is the xr600 vs an xr400? I have a xr400. I'm guessing it is really noticeable in the taller gears?
I haven't had the chance to ride a 400, but I believe it really depends on where you ride them, maybe in the wide open stuff where you only use 4th and 5th the 600 could have an advantage, but in many other scenarios the 400 could probably be faster as I heard is a lot more light and nimble than the 600. 91 xr250 is such a light bike its endless fun. Enough power to get out of any tight spots with ease
Neither are faster than the other innately imo at least. The 250 and 400 can be slammed a little more if only just cause the smaller surges and vibes from the power are less tiring. What did you change on this bike basically 😄
Mostly bone stock except for an exhaust and a FCR carb. Other than that is pretty much stock.
@@rrivero7512 A well-tuned FCR carburetor, better than fuel injection
Where is it
It is in Uruguay!
i don't think you give yourself enough credit here either!.. You are one hell of a good rider too!
I really appreciate that!
