EP41 : Come Fly With Us on Smithy's Southern Cross Replica Over the Illawarra
We've been really keen to show you what it's like to fly in our replica of Australia's pioneering trans-pacific aviator Charles Kingsford Smith's three engine Fokker, the Southern Cross, since its first flight in over 20 years last December. The majestic aircraft's been busy training up new pilots to keep her more up in the air and today we finally got a ride on her longest run yet out of Shellharbour Regional Airport, home of the HARS Aviation Museum, and over neighbouring Wollongong and Port Kembla. And what a nostalgic trip back into those early days of passenger aviation.

EP 40 :HARS RAN Iroquois 898 Huey Anzac Day Shoalhaven Flypast - Lest We Forget
มุมมอง 3435 หลายเดือนก่อน
Everyone loves a Huey and the Caribou too. Sounds of the Vietnam War evoked many poignant memories for marching ANZAC Day veterans below as our war-era DHC-4 Caribou 234 and Iroquois, ex-RAN Huey 898, flew low over five marches in the beautiful Shoalhaven region, 150 kms south of Sydney, Australia, a first-ever for HARS. What a perfect day. For HARS volunteer Carl Robinson, the Huey always brin...

Always breathtaking, our Connie in action. It takes a lot of work for our volunteer engineers, pilots and crew to keep the world's only flying Lockheed Super Constellation in the air. And what a busy day at Shellharbour Regional Airport with our Dakota (DC3/C47) and Caribou scooting around as Connie went through its annual inspection with a rigorous hour-long training flight. Not just one, but ...

The 22nd of July 2020 was a historic day for Australian aviation as Qantas' last Boeing 747-400 left Sydney on its farewell flight, headed south and low in tribute over its sister aircraft City of Canberra and a packed house of former employees and public at our Museum. On static display at HARS since its dramatic arrival on 8 March 2015 after 25 years with Qantas, ours was the 12th 747-400 bui...

It takes a lot of dedication to keep our Lockheed Super Constellation flying. Surely, the flight in early December of our Fokker VIIB replica of Australia's iconic pioneering aircraft, the three-engine Southern Cross and first across the Pacific in 1928, was the crowning achievement of another busy and successful year for our world-class aviation museum 100 kms south of Sydney, Australia. Special Delivery Santa. What a spectacular run for our ex-RAN 'Huey' 898 from the HARS Aviation Museum over to the Shellharbour Surf Club to deliver Santa Claus to their annual Nippers Christmas Party, young Aussies learning surf life-saving skills. Only minutes away from a dramatic fly-past over Australia's national capital to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the country's involvement in the Vietnam War, bad weather forced a turnback to our base at Albion Park for our two Caribous from that war. From WC, Now let’s fly her, she is a beautiful Bird!
Ah Ha! The truth is revealed. This is why Mount Ousley is fogged in so many times. Greta Thunberg reverse UNO cards x 4.
Wonderful collection with so many aircraft still airworthy, I am curious to know where the F 27 Friendship was obtained from. Surprised it is the only airworthy one in Australia.
Its been awhile since there has been a flypast over the Shoalhaven. I love the sound of the Huey you can hear it coming from a mile away. Great footage Guys.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I'm so glad I watched this 😊
Looks and sounds like an accident waiting to happen....
its already had an accident this is the rebuilt version
This flew over my house the other day. I thought is it a Ford tri motor or a Junkers 52....Oh its a Focker tri motor. Looks amazing and sounds fantastic 😊
Just magnificent - so elegant and majestic well done to all involved such an epic effort.👏👏👏
Don't think I could call it elegant but Beauty is in the eye of....
Thank you for sharing this very special video .
I'm so glad that I watched this 😊
I would give almost anything to get in the F/E's seat again. Almost 19 years as a F/E in the US Navy. It was a great career.
I would lov to see one of the old mirage III's flying again
so glad i was on the tarmac that day
Even though I’ve visited HARS a few times, I only just discovered your TH-cam channel. Love it, Thank you very much. All the best Roland
Great video, thanks to all involved!
The un-mistakeable sound of the venerable Huey, a life saver for us Army chaps.
What an awesome day.
Hooray!
All of these old relics are terrific to see in person. The sights and sounds and flights of all of them. However, that Super Connie is as beautiful as a classic airplane gets. With her four roaring R-3350s, she's the true "show-stopper" down-under. Seeing her fly the way she does, is as graceful as if she were in service carrying passengers. A truly magnificent airplane she is!!!!
spectacular
Have you ever flown the Connie over to Western Australia. If not why not ? You are quick enough to accept donations from WA.
probably because of the shear distance from nsw to wa. theres alot of risk in that in such an old aircraft.
As a former US Navy Connie Aircrewman it makes my heart glad to see this old gal in the air and hear the 3350s sing their song. My favorite time to fly was Night time and see the blue flame dance down the wings.
i have a gudgeon pin from it yay
Another great video guys..❤❤ keep up the fantastic work❤
Absolutely stunning work there lads!
The people at HARS do a remarkable job of keeping or aviation history alive. Well worth visiting.
Love the Tracker, wish they would fly at Nowra more often!
Beautiful takeoff
Hopefully Connie will be back flying,if not this January Tarmac Weekend then very soon after and then you will get to see it at Airshows Down Under Shellharbour on the first weekend in March 2024. Cheers
In another video here they captured an image that has stayed with me. You see the tiny Fokker at altitude flying by the moon. Awesome.
respect to you all love your planes
‘’’Why aren't your video views increasing? And not reaching people? ‘’’ The reason is 1. Your video is not being SEO properly 2. Your video is not reaching the right people 3. Not using video hashtags properly 4. Not sharing the video on social media There are a few more reasons. That's why your videos are limited to your channel. Can't get out In a word, your video is awesome. such videos are in great demand. If you do these things correctly. Hopefully, you will get a lot of visitors. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have. If I can help a wonderful person like you. Feel lucky. I will cooperate with you in all kinds. I am waiting for your reply,,,,,
Saw the Huey depart albatross and watched it come back in later in the day. I wondered what it was doing. Great work guys!
respect.
Such a nice addition! 😊
Our first feature-length episode takes you on a grand journey through some of our Museum’s most-treasured aircraft, starting with the amazing history of our iconic Boeing 747-400, City of Canberra (VH-OJA) and how the record-breaking aircraft came to HARS in 2015. We also remember …
Excellent restoration, gorgeous aircraft!!
The pilot flying it must figured he has lived his life.
The New Old Bus lives!!! Yet another reason I need to get to HARS, and an airshow. Some of those air-to-air photos are timeless. Well done team, she looks and sounds incredible!!
I hope every person who was involved with the restoration of this fabulous piece of Australian aviation history has the opportunity to be taken on board as a passenger for a tour of the Illawarra. 👍🇦🇺
Absolutely Brililant!!
Fantastic work!
They are truly lucky to have this plane after its crash at Parafield Airport in South Australia a few years ago. Good to see it fixed up and flying again.
So the 'Old Bus mark 11 VH-USU flies once more. the Spirit of Smithy & VH-USU Mk11 lives on, Sir Charles would be grinning as I am, well done, HARS.
Today Dec 8, 2023,marks two historical aviation events: At HARS at Shellharbour Airport the Southern Cross replica returned to the skies; whilst in South Australia the RAAF fairwelled the last of its APC3 Orion aircraft. HARS is now the only place in Australia where you can see an Orion aircraft flying. So come on down!
congrats to all involved. history. restored and fun.
Brilliant work. Congratulations on the restoration of the planes.
so good to see her fly again, what a long waiting and great effort.
