Stony Lonesome - The Ledges
This is the third and final part of a series of videos from May 27, 2023. I met up at Stony with a new group named Absolution Offroad (best group I've ever wheeled with) and a "new" Jeep, ready to test out all the new parts in earnest.
I just want to reiterate, as I've mentioned in my past videos, that climbing obstacles with a manual transmission (especially one with a 2.72:1 t-case still) is EXTREMELY difficult. The thing just won't stay cranked. I guess I'm just a terrible driver, who knows.
I definitely couldn't have done this (nor would I have had the courage) if it weren't for such a supportive group in Absolution Offroad. This will be a day I never forget. I hope you enjoy watching as I nearly sh*t myself several times when I thought I was rolling over for sure. Sketchy, sketchy!

This is the second part of a series of videos from May 27, 2023. I met up at Stony with a new group named Absolution Offroad (best group I've ever wheeled with) and a "new" Jeep, ready to test out all the new parts in earnest. Unfortunately, I was too excited to drive on this trail to get any footage of my own Jeep. I only got hung up a few times and loved every second of it. There is plenty of...

Testing my Upgrades

May '23, my buddy Creel and I went out to a local place named Swann Bridge to test out the upgrades. Everything worked great except for my terrible driving of a manual transmission. Build info here: revkit.com/jeepinbird/

Quick Jeep Update
มุมมอง 3132 ปีที่แล้ว
Unfortunately, I FUBAR'd my rear Sport axle that I've already invested thousands in with upgrades and repairs. I had completely given up on the Jeep because I was told I had to replace the whole axle housing in the rear for it to be truly fixed. Trying to save a few hundred dollars on parts, I attempted to remove the Adams Driveshaft and simply replace it with the factory driveshaft. Little did...
HELP! Unknown Sound on my Jeep JL
มุมมอง 1.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
UPDATE: I gave up when yet another set of gears started making an even worse sound. Decided it had to be the housing itself being f ed up so I've replaced the entire axle assembly. I started having a strange grinding sound coming from my rear axle early last year and I thought it would've been resolved after having practically everything replaced. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Do you have...
Iron Gap with Rocket City Wranglers

On Feb 19th, 2022, I tagged along with the Rocket City Wranglers group to Iron Gap. There were around 30 of us that split into three groups and ultimately made our way to new-to-me place called "Flat Rock". Unfortunately, I didn't get much video this time so here's what I did manage to capture.
Ox Locker Testing Attempt
มุมมอง 10K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I went to Iron Gap in north Alabama/Tennessee in an attempt to test my new Ox Locker I recently had installed in my 2018 Jeep JLU. It...didn't go as planned. SPOILER ALERT: I didn't realize the locker had turned off/disengaged. 🤦♂️ More about my Jeep: revkit.com/jeepinbird Music/sound effects provided by Epidemic Sound

Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT Tire 20,000 Mile Review
My 2018 jl sport is making this same noise. Everything in the driveline and differentials is stock. I'm banging my head against the wall trying to figure it out.
Google Maps puts me in Tennessee a good bit away from Waterloo, AL Searching for Rainbow Falls, I found dry creek trail in Tennessee north of Waterloo, AL though. That's probably it
Any Gaia GPS coords? Is there camping allowed there?
this reminds me of Uncle Doyal in the late 60's early 70's and his red jeep in Waterloo Ala. best fun in the world, back then there was no dirt roads he made his own, God I miss that man
How did the installation of the metalcloak fenders and the AAL fender liners go? You had the exact fender/liner combo idea I do.
I couldn't figure out how to do it so I took it to the local off-road shop and let them figure it out. Just so happened that the guy who helped design the AAL liners worked there at the shop so he was able to make it all work together. I haven't tried to take it apart to determine how it's working exactly so I can't help much there. I could try to do a video of it if you want.
What was the noise?
My gears in the rear axle were all hosed up.
Great job. Practice makes perfect and driving a manual on the trail can be tricky but it's an experience that every enthusiast should try at least once.
Five waterfalls are out there to be exact. Occasionally i take small groups and show them. Hidden waterfall is the best....
The Ledges is a good one. Kudos to those with a manual trans.
Appreciate it!
Do you still have the carrier? If so I have a question
The gate itself, yes, only because I haven't made it to the scrap yard with it yet.
Do you still have the part with the rubber stop attached to it that bolted to the bumper? Please tell me you do. 😂
rockcrawling in a manual is super fun but a rubi t case 4:1 is almost mandatory or really deep gear nice video
Your tires are not meant to be for rocks plus the air on tires should be less.
You're absolutely right. I'm now on 38" MT Baja Pro XS tires and have made it up this obstacle without issue. Size (and tread) matters. 😂 Thanks for watching!
I need to get down to stoney some time . Looks like some fun trails.
Yeah, it's an excellent testing ground for anything I change on my Jeep. There's a little something for everyone of all levels. Thanks for watching!
Rock crawling in a manual requires deeper gears to be smooth and have control 👌🏼 I did wanna see how you liked the ox tho lol
I've since completely replaced the rear axle with a Dana 60 with an ARB. The front has also been replaced with a ProRock 44 with an Ox Locker. I'm LOVING it so far. Works great!
Add a throttle control on your shifter… best thing beyond lockers and good tires.
Yeah, that's a good idea.
Someone needs an automatic
You ain't kiddin! Brutal!
Man hell of an update, last I remember you only had the rear ox locker. Just did my axles in October too, eaton rear locker and gears but that's a simple thing compared to what you've done damn. Look forward to seeing how the jeeps doing
Thanks! Yeah, I went crazy with it. I'll be posting a lot more videos this year. Some as a catch-up from last year and then whatever I do this year. Thanks for watching!
R u guys from here in Cullman Area? Am asking cause I'm working on a TOYOTA. ( NO IT'S NOT A JEEP ) GOD BLESS YOU. ONE OF YOU HAS A SCREEEEEEEEMING WIFE. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. ONCE I GET IT COMPLETED I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SOMEONE TO GO RIDING WITH....
I am in the Cullman area, yes. We don't mind what you drive, you're always welcome.

Oh, yeah I see that. Learn something new every day. Thanks for sharing. And thanks for watching!
Man that looked like a sweet adventure!
Thanks, Iron Gap is a great place to ride. Check out my "Ox Locker Testing Attempt" video to see more of Iron Gap.
@@JeepinBirdJLU will do. Thank you.
Jeep looks great, yeah manuals can be a bear in the rocks. Mines a manual and I'm still learning the clutch in technical stuff.
Thanks! Yeah, definitely a learning curve. I think it would help tremendously if I had a lower crawl ratio. An Atlas T-case is coming in the future for sure.
Dude, that Jeep is pretty damn wicked looking! I'm sure it performs just as good too.
Thank you! Yeah, I'm loving it so far. I'll be posting some videos soon that shows all that fun. Thanks for watching!
I made it fine through here with a stock Jeep Wrangler Sport. Gorgeous place.
whats up man! I have a D44 housing on the front porch to build for my 78 bronco. I'm considering the OX. I live in north AL huntsville and we did a bronco ride near where you are talking about. It was on the AL TN boarder. Anywany just figured I would drop a comment and check out some of your other vids.
Thanks for watching, man! Maybe we'll see each other out on the trails. I haven't posted anything in a while but I'm working on putting some stuff together. Good luck with the Bronco build! The old ones are awesome!
@@JeepinBirdJLU I tried to buy a '51 Studebaker Bulletnose on a Dodge 4x4 frame last week. Its just sitting in a field in North AL. I left my name and # on a paper plate with his neighbor - wish me luck!
@@aceprater5397 Hell yeah! Good luck!
These are the best all terrains in the rain hands down.
Good review video! 🤓👍🏻 I’ve been considering these tires for my 2013 F-150 4x4 When I got the truck used it already had Goodyear Duratrac tires on it, which work great off road, but are a bit noisy on road. And honestly I daily the truck and don’t do much offroading yet because I wanna pay off the truck first, and offroading tends to break shit lol.
Definitely break shit Offroad. Lol
@@JeepinBirdJLU 🤣🤣🤣
All AT tires are bad in mud, that’s why they make Mud Terrains.
Thank you.
It's the tires bro
That's what happens when you have a 3.6
Congratulations. You fooled another unsuspecting OX researcher into wasting time watching a video based on a wildly misleading title. You deliberately mislead the public with a clickbait title. This video is a flat out lie. All it did was show how unprepared and ignorant you are offroad. Nice. 🤬
5:00 and this is why this place is now private to members only?
Just south of it, yes. It's a pay-to-play area now so you can't just go riding anymore for free. 😞 And no, someone bought the land to make money off of it.
Dry Creek Beach is in Savannah, TN. Right?
Correct my friend. Actually it's all in Hardin co Tennessee which borders lauderdale co.
If you end up selling your OX Lockers let me know
Already sold it. Sorry. 😞
Where is this at in talladega ?
Sounds like to much preload on the pinion berings!
Definitely something wrong with the gears. I wound up replacing the whole housing.
e rated 10 ply tire 😬 cant see them riding very good or airing down to well on a lighter rig
That's a good look! 😍
Where is this at?
great vid
Thank you!
I would like to tag along next time, looks badass
Definitely. Iron Gap will be my first place to ride when the Jeep is finished.
My 4s on my wife's yukon xl denali are almost bald on the I side, less than 20k miles
Trim your beard and try next time . I think too much weight
They're quieter than all terrains. They're more like a passenger tire. Yes, not great in mud, yes they pick up rocks like CRAZY. I have the AT34s and it's about the same. Airing down with these is SUPER critical. Alabama here also. Where do you wheel? Road traction and dirt traction and mud that's less than 6 inches deep. They do great. They're quiet, just like everything you said.
Thanks for watching. I’m in north Alabama so a lot of my wheeling happens just across the state line in Tennessee. You?
Thanks for posting. I like these tires on paper and hearing your review is very helpful. I'm driving F150, FX4 and looking for replacement of OEM tires.
Definitely recommended. Thanks for watching.
"Balance"? Any tire can be balanced if done right. Your going to the wrong tire shop. I've run 17x17x40 Ground Hawgs and had them balanced.
What is the load rating on them?
They're E rated. They work great for heavy loads.
@@JeepinBirdJLU did you loose 8th gear? My Sahara is stock and I'm not planning any severe mods. These tires are 265 70 18 E rated for $75 a piece. Yokohama G015. 10 pounds more than stock.
It struggled after I upgraded to these, yes. Mine is a manual and starting off was really hard. I regeared to 5.13's and it made it much better, just couldn't go faster than 70mph without winding out the engine in 6th gear. For me, it was worth the trade off.
@@JeepinBirdJLU thanks, I will be towing a 3000 lb trailer. I will need every bit of power. I think a c or lower and Nillstein 5100's are in my future upgrade. It is a crazy price of $75 each new tire and with a set of four a $70 rebate. Only 6 left in my area. I have to pass on it. The weight difference is 10lbs per tire. I thought that was not significant.
Your dad looked like he was telling you…”don’t be a b!tch”😂😂
I have an OX locker on my yj, and I do believe that mine made a similar noise when it was first installed. My mechanic re-opened the pumpkin, and made some adjustments as the cable actuator was not working quite right, and the noise was not there after. Just a thought. Good luck with it .
I went with MTs again but man im still waffling on if i should of chose these
Do you find that these throw pebbles?
So very much so. They're really bad about doing that.
