Umi, great one. You do schools also?
Gold!
In this video th-cam.com/video/ENl4_Va-xqw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vvl5vLOmfRGTS2yX Alex explains at minute 5:00 how David Sturrock shortened fruiting age of cross pollinated varieties by grafting seedlings root stock into mature trees. Hopefully this technique helps.
8feet x 10feet
Good stuff here. Do you have a video of how the orchard looks now, 2025?
@umisfarm9419 Based on your experience what would you say is the ideal planting distance. Would you do 8X10 spacing again?
hello sir, do you have contact information? I would love to consult with you as we try this in Africa

Nhờ kênh chia sẽ cách xử lý kích thích ra hoa mùa nghịch đối với cây xoài cho mình với. Thanks to the sharing channel, please share with me how to stimulate off-season flowering for mango trees.
Potassium nitrate or paclobutrazol
Great details. Please provide rows orientation also.
@giovannifiorentino8947 north to south, that way as the sun passes east to west there is even light distribution throughout the day
@@umisfarm9419 thank you. What will be your thoughts about agrivoltaic with mango trellises? I’ve noticed that at noon trees dehydrate and maybe a little shade from translucent photovoltaic panels might relieve some of it. Or maybe it’ll keep them from flowering.
What is the maximum life time of these wooden poles on ground?
What's the maximum life time of these wooden poles on ground??
@realvardhan we'll see, i'm seven years in and still looking good, but my place is really dry. I've seen posts rot out from water and termites in 18 months, so...
@@umisfarm9419 since mango plant life time is very long so better to use standard post like concrete or Iron made posts.
@@realvardhan yes, but you have to factor in the cost and availability, i'm on a small island in the middle of the pacific, so it can be challenging getting things
What is the wood used here and life time of the wood please?
@@realvardhan pretty sure treated pine.
what is the tree and row spacing?
8 feet spacing on the trellis, 15 feet between trellises
isnt it difficult to prune between the trellis?
i can walk down the middle of the trellis to get the inside branches
You prune with hedger?
@giovannifiorentino8947 no, just hand pruner and saw
The trees look so health. What's part of Hawaii your orchard locate?
@@kvanly west Kauai
Appreciate the update. Grow dem fruits 😊
Is there a follow up video?
Have you thought about replacing wood trellis with concrete ones?
I would love to have cement posts, but I don't know about replacing posts
I noticed that when I air layer the clone tend to flower more than the parent. If you plan on cross pollination, air layer the two varieties and get them in a green house with blue flys and let them do the work. Hope this works.
How long before they start fruiting?
@mavismwiinga3446 the mangoes started fruiting the first year but they are not ready to hold fruit until year 3
@umisfarm9419 Thank You. Would it be idea to pant a variety of mangos on a same piece of land or it has to be one variety?
@mavismwiinga3446 I know people who have over 50 varieties on a half a re of land, so should be no problem
Are mealy bugs and scale because of ant infestation and the ants farming those pests? I've noticed if I get rid of the ants, the other farmed insects cease to exist.

Are your mangoes are from grafted or from seed?

Thanks for allowing us to join you on your journey!
A great orchard indeed , may I know average fruit produced per plant in kg. Per year, third year onwards sir ?
@bhoom2tika it depends on the variety, and we probably don't have the same ones. Keitt about 25k per tree. Manzanillo 20 k, rapoza 20 k, nom doc mai 20 k, white pirie 10 k. The trees can hold more, some have as much as 50 kilo, but that gets crowded and the fruits cluster up and rub on each other causing scratches
@@umisfarm9419 appreciated , great results
Can you mention which Indian varieties suitable for 8*10feet high density mango plantation?
Toooo much pruning. Find the video from Australia or New Zealand that I think was called “mango hedges” Here this major mango farm grows their trees as hedges following years of serious research which means let the branches from adjacent trees touch. And soooo much more scientifically proven correct things to follow for your beautiful trees and project. th-cam.com/video/dNozLuofoJ4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rXM9Y78Y3d647AxO
Great work indeed. I really look for your videos. Sir I’m an orchardist from India Lucknow my farm name is Hazara Orchard Laharpur. I'm doing ultra hi density and your work inspires me. ❤❤❤
@MohdFahadfaruquikhairabad I watched the videos on your farm. Looks great. I hope I can visit India some day.
Orchard looks nice!
From Philippines nice presentation could you share your production and management system specially on pest and diseases. Thanks
I think I addressed that in so.e of the videos especially the PowerPoint presentations
If you have a specific question I'll try to answer
,😅
Project looks great Come visit in india also we can collaborate
I would love that
Nice video. I just subscribed.
Sir,wt is the difference btw high density n ultra high density mango plantation?
It doesn't have a set number of trees. I say anything over 300 tree an acre is ultra
@@umisfarm9419 thanks sir
i think an appropriate distance between row to row and plant to plant should be 20 x 20 feet
For conventional mango orchards but this is for high density mango orchards
Sir please tell me wt is the distance btw plant to plant n raw to raw
The spacing of this field is 8x10 feet, but it depends on how you plan to maintain the orchard. If you will use a tractor I would plant 10x20 feet
@@umisfarm9419 Thanks sir
Hello everyone on TH-cam. I'm not an expert. I would like to know if we could do a polyembrionic tissue culture in the laboratory to produce a superior mango variety ? Thank you from Philippines
What is distance between 2 iron wire?
Bottom wire, i suggest 30 inches and 18 inches apart going up
Some types of trees become less productive if not allowed to grow to their preferred height. That's what I hear from some farmers anyway
Hello
Sound quality is very bad.
Dear Umi, I would like to get in contact with you. I am planning to start a mango farm
you can ask questions here or email umisfarm@gmail.com
Isnt the grass harmful ?
its been 4 years. do you have any regrets? ie will you change anything to density if you able to go back in time?
No regrets because it was a trial and I didn't know what the outcomes would be. I do think my trial was too dense, which creates problems with getting a tractor between the rows and needing more fungicides to deal with powdery mildew and anthracnose. So, I widened out the space between rows to allow more sunlight and airflow. I learned a lot from this project
@@umisfarm9419 great to have this reflection. If starting again could you say what pacing you would choose? Is there any other significant leson you could share?
@@umisfarm9419 What width would you recommend between rows?
Great information. Thanks for continuing to share the journey.
Great stuff, thanks for the inspiration and knowledge
What is current situation of the cultivation?
I think your plant is too high so have to Pruning emidiatly.
Some may be too high and i'm working on getting them lower, but i like the canopy 8 to 10 feet
Does this method suit for mango trees in my backyard?
Absolutely, check out youtube.com/@mangomenhomestead994?si=KCexv35YcXP65iWx
the post diameter ?
I used 3 1/2" and 5" posts
