    Just bought one brand new on eBay that came with the bushing install tool as well. $95.

      @ianpalm 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s pretty cool. $95 is super good as far as price goes. It’s harder to find them if you need a specific spec.

    Wow, the end result is stunning! I have a zircuti clip & backspacer for a folding knife that look great, but I'm thinking about using Whink to remove the current heat ano & redoing it myself to try to get a different pattern &/or coloring. I don't have a torch though, & I wanted to ask what you'd suggest to use if I plan to buy one from a hardware store or Amazon? Pretty sure my options are butane, propane, or MAPP if I go that route. But I've never even used a torch before. Now, I'm fairly experienced at moderate modding but I don't have an actual shop or anything, & I'm a grown human who has common sense & a couple cinder vlocks as well as an outside, so I plan to do this safely. But I'm wondering what to do in terms of fuel. Any suggestions? Great video, you get a sub from me, sir!

    • @ianpalm
      @ianpalm 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! Thanks for the comment. In terms of which torch I would go for the simple propane torch is what I use, the mapp fuel burns too hot for a good control. Plus getting the fuel is cheaper if you go with butane. The key is to go slow and keep it all uniform. The hardest part is when you don’t see any change for a while and want to dump heat into it but you just have to be patient. Good luck!

      Thank you! It was a fun one to film. It definity is a project you could brute force with simple tools but it would be tough. Thats why you gotta make friends with somone who has a lathe😂😂

  • @chevy6632
    @chevy6632 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you need to adjust some gears, the distance between to gears teeth's is the thickness of one sheet of paper. I mean for when you will set your auto advance that these lathe came with. By replacing the gears on the left side of the lathe you could set at which speed it would move to set a correct angle of cut, when making threads.

  • @chevy6632

    By the way I painted mine Burnt Orange and black. The chassis black and the legs and moving parts orange (Saddle , cross slide, tail stock))

    • @ianpalm
      @ianpalm ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a good color combo. We went with blue with some gold highlihgts for the letters.

  • @chevy6632
    @chevy6632 ปีที่แล้ว

    At 10m33 you ask about T slots, theses could be used to attach a taper attachment to the lathe if I am not wrong. It was sold as an extra. It would take controls of your cross slide and once adjusted, you could make many same shape taper object in a row without setting any angles anymore

    • @ianpalm

      this project hit a halt for us when our schedules changed and we actually want to sell the lathe in the state it's in. Which is fully painted and operable just without a motor.

    Find me crazy, but my Seneca Falls 10 inches lathe(1896 made) also had a lot of slack on the copper half bearing on both sides. And as it would have been a nightmare to remove one side of the drums to get the job done and I did not have any replacement's bushings(bearing), so I filled the slack(void) with metal epoxy. That type of epoxy can support oil, so since doing it, there is almost no more play at all. I left just a thin shim of multiple coats of wax before putting the two caps back in place and torqued them back in place. 24h later, I removed all excessive dropping on both side of epoxy, a bit of sand paper(very fine) 80w90 gear oil and it all went good. I have been using it for a year now and no problems at all. I only did the worst side, which was the one closest to the chuck. This summer I will do the other side. The caps have never changed shaped, the bushing parts touching the caps are also perfect shape, so basically, the epoxy filled all excessive worn gaps between to shaft the the inside of the cupper bushings.
