A shame they broke up despite future greatness from alumni, especially Them who employed Van Morrison during mid-Sixties when they had admittedly too few great singles and filler on two albums. Zombies featured both singer Colin Blunstone + keyboardist Rod Argent, hanging around somewhat longer (imagine replacing Van the man? It didn’t work) before unwittingly splitting. Small Faces gelled as quartet yet were done upon Steve Marriot’s departure for harder rock; the less commercial Faces took over with two veterans of Jeff Beck madness. Honourable mention: John Mayall despite obviously continuing pretty much until recent death. Aided by three famous guitar heroes, JM peaked in this fruitful era. Same as three picks…
