    The only thing forgot was where the pinion is pointing before disassembly bc the steering wheel is probably off in the truck it's installed in..

    • @fixtherustbucket
      @fixtherustbucket หลายเดือนก่อน

      Incorrect, the trucks steering wheel and wheels are dead on straight. If you were to purchased a used rack, there would not be any reference marks for the re-installation once rebuilt. These two videos were about rebuilding a rack not the installation onto a vehicle. Its not a bad idea, maybe I’ll do a video on this one day. For now there are plenty of videos out there showing someone how to center and reinstall the rack.

  • @Michael-yi4mc

    Finally an installation video that is step by step, instead of a time lapse explanation of installation is the reverse of disassembly by other authors.

    Having watched this video, it's clear you have 0 idea of the true meaning of a "rust-bucket". The rack had 0 "heavy rust" to be removed, you don't even know what that means. All there was, was VERY light surface corrosion. It was virtually pristine for being 24 years old. Try a 24 year old DD Michigan vehicle, than you can earn the name of this channel.

    For the upper control arm did the polyurethane bushings not have a sleeve? In the previous video It looks like you had to cut off the washer ends from the original UCA bushings and now using them upon installation but I don't see you inserting a sleeve only the bolts, is this correct?

    • @fixtherustbucket
      @fixtherustbucket หลายเดือนก่อน

      The kit I ordered did not come with sleeves for the uppers. Don't know if it was packed incorrectly or not supplied with this kit. The company never answered my email sent to them. I was in a hurry to get the front end back together. I ended up finding a local shop that took the measurements from the bushing and bolt and cut four sleeves for me. I thought I covered that in the video. My apologizes for not mentioning what I had to do. The upper bushings need to have the sleeves to perform correctly.

    Great video. Perfect amount of detail to help someone who has not done this type of work before. My only question is what brand of drills do you use? It seems you drilled out many spot welds. Did you have to change drill bits or did the one bit remain sharp enough to drill out all the spot welds.

    • @fixtherustbucket
      @fixtherustbucket 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I used two different brand drill bits, Milwaukee and Ryobi. My Ryobi bits have been great drill bits and have not failed me. Now they were purchased six plus years ago so I don’t know the quality of new ones yet. They have stayed sharp for me. Now with that said…. I have slowly broken most of the smaller Ryobi bits, hence having to use the Milwaukee bits. I have not used the Milwaukee long enough to really have an opinion on them….yet. I will purchase more Ryobi’s and hope they have kept the same quality. I did step the bits up while drilling out the welds. I never went smaller then an 1/8” bit. It was just easier on the arms stepping up bits while drilling out so many welds. There is a much more to come with auto body work. I am currently getting our 88 Ford Bronco body parts in and we will be getting started on that very soon. Give us a try and Subscribe to the channel! I appreciate your feedback and comment! Thanks, Chris, aka Fix the Rust Bucket.

    Question for ya I got 2015 Escalade with front end accident the steering wheel just keeps spinning with loud noise wheels are not moving it all looks intact Is there a way to rebuild the steering rack what broke is there rebuild kits

    • @fixtherustbucket
      @fixtherustbucket 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It could be one broken part/location or a combination of broken locations that are causing the issue. Its a bit hard to figure out not seeing it in person. I would start where the steering shaft exits the fire wall and work down. Your truck should be equipped with an intermediate shaft and a lower intermediate shaft, the universal joint could have broke inside the boot. That would give you a noise with no wheel movement. If not, then possibly the input shaft or steering rack has broken/stripped gears. Thanks for the question. I hope I was able to point you in a good direction to start looking. FTRB.

    Now I understand why repairing that component is so expensive and almost no one does it on their own opting for seal regenerating fluids. It is extremely easy to bite a new seal, and once you have it all installed you will have a fluid leak again. It is not something that I would dare to do due to the amount of time spent and the high risk of failure, but the process is very well explained.

  • @Airman..
    @Airman.. 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Can you explain how did you removed the body valve lower shaft seal?

    • @fixtherustbucket
      @fixtherustbucket 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I first tried a socket attached to an extension, that did not work. I then used my picks and taped them to long screwdrivers. The seals are not easy to remove, and you don't want to scratch any part of the inside of the "tube" that could potentially cause a leak. Here is a link to the Fix the Rust Bucket Facebook Page, I posted some pictures of the picks and seal after it was removed. facebook.com/fixtherustbucket This one was stuck really hard in there. I had to free up the sides first, then I was able to pick and pull the seal and white hard plastic rings out. This was for both of the seals. I hope this helps a bit more and helps you with yours.

    If you use anti-seize, you have to reduce the amount of torque that you apply to the nuts to only 70% of the recommended level of torque. So if the manual says apply 75 ft-lbs to the lug nuts, and you apply anti-seize to the lug studs (bolts), then only apply 55 ft-lbs of torque to the lug nut (that's 70% of the recommended torque for a dry lug stud).

    Great video! Are there o-rings I should replace on the power steering lines you show at the 38:40 mark? Also, looks like the Gates 348364 is identical to the FVP/Edelmann 8787 Rack and Pinion Seal Kit. RockAuto doesn't sell the Gates kit anymore but the stock photo is identical to the FVP/Edelmann 8787 kit.

    • @fixtherustbucket
      @fixtherustbucket 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, there are O-rings on the end of the lines where they install onto the pinion housing. It would not hurt to replace them during the rebuild. I did not have any at the time and the ones here still looked good. If you're going to rebuild a rack, it would be easier to replace them at this time then find a leak later. I should have pointed that out.

    Great video, very thorough. My only recommendation would be to use an O-ring lube when installing the seals and O-rings to help prevent damage on the edges. Plus, it helps get them started. Also, did you have any issues with steering wheel alignment? I am assuming the pinion is clocked to the rack to ensure the steering shaft locking bolt is in the right position. Lastly, the guide bushing spring, did you count the revolutions of the lock nut to make sure it had the same tension on the spring? How critical is spring pressure for the guide?
