Absolutely outstanding for a U band. Impressive af!

It's almost 2024 and this show still stands the test of time as an all-time great. What a sound! From a WVU Pride of West Virginia grad and long time drum corps fan, WOW!

Just stumbled on this video, I played in the Southerners in 1964-65 under David Walters Direction. With only 100 players in the band we still blew people away in the Lyndon Johnson Inaugural Parade. Love this music so much. It was so much fun.

My freshman year as a Ballerina, former Trombone player! Was amazing!!!

Our son and future daughter-in-law marched in this show. One of the BOA judges remarked, "Where has this band been?"

And not ONE wood wind instrument was heard throughout the entire show.

BLOW SOUTHERNERS BLOW!!

I was a sophomore at Troy and brought my younger brother to the game. He was so impressed with the halftime show that he decided that he wanted to match for the Marching Southerners, which he did from 97-99.

That's some REAL music!!

I marched in this show. This was one of my favorite songs to play.

This was the arrangement I did for Drum Major tryouts... I ended up on the 50 yardline out of two other Drum Majors.

Now JSU is more like a BOA band than The Marching Southerners.

Both of my parents met in the southerners and were in this show together. His amazes me. My dad is playing cymbals (tallest one) and my mother is in the flute section.

One of my favorite shows. Very great. The Mercedes Benz tech is my neighbor. Just got my new jsu flag to fly on my estate. Need a southerners too. No.matter how things change, we are still the best. 💝

Honestly....its hard to comment with tears in my eyes. What a display of talent and dedication to this wonderful American art form. How could anyone not be moved by these fine young people.

Oh. My. God. I’ve been looking for this for ages. I remember being in hs heading my band director talk about this show and how amazing it was. I didn’t get to see the southerners until 2003 when I was sophomore in hs but the way he talked about this show I couldn’t imagine how it was better. Then I found an audio recording about 10 years ago and hot damn was I happy to be wrong. This music is amazing.

Wow Wow WoW! brings back memories. I was a trombonist in this group. What an amazing time in my life. All i knew was that the rivalry of the band was bigger than the football teams. This was so much fun to be a part of.

Trombone, 98, 99, 00. I think I actually was playing baritone this year though. I miss it so freaking bad, still gives me chills. Malaga, firebird, Ami Sobuelos Barcelona....weatherly hall (isn't that what the band dorms were called?), doesnt exist any more. Phi Mu Alpha parties, oh yes!

Wow, in my day (Zenobia King Hill) Ballerinas would have been polishing boots for lack of precision! Band sounds great, but so much going on...girls in long dresses with rifles? Others with flags?
