How did you fix the wall cabinets to the wall?
I used 70mm screws and wall plugs screwed through the stretcher at the back.
Bijvoorbaad ben je al een zeurpiet.....
Hey Tom thanks for the video. I bought this saw second hand. Cannot for the life of me loosen the hex bolt to change the blades. I know I'm working in the correct direction and it is not budging. Any recommendations? If I can't change the blade the saw is no good to me.
Hi Unfortunately, this is a common problem. I think it stems from who even installed the blades at the factory and uses an impact driver. I have had several people with the same problem. My suggestion would be to spray it with a penetrating oil like WD40. Then, slide a pipe or something over the hex key to give yourself more leverage. Finally, take a rubber mallet and hit the end of the pipe in the direction to loosen it. If all this fails, you will need to take it To a makita dealership . They should be able to sort it for you at a cost. Hope this helps
@@TomMagicWoodworking thank you for your speedy reply. I was able to get it off with the allen key + multipliers + WD-40. It was really difficult! But I got there in the end. Subscribed :)
Glad to hear it all worked out and thanks for Subscribing and watching 😀
Hi Tom,edge binding is mandatory for mdf cabinets?
No not really as long as you seal the edge of the MDF well. Use serval coats of paint and you should have no problems.
@TomMagicWoodworking thanks for your quick response 🙏
Not a problem hope it helps. Thanks for watching
Well done just what i need a perfect explanation . You have made a old man very happy
Thanks for that 👍 glad I could help.
What sliding table saw do you use for this type of work?
I have got an Axminster sliding table panel sawI
I am about to start a DIY kitchen build using ply for the cabinets and mdf for the shaker fronts.. you have helped massively with these videos, currently working my way through your series' 👍👍👍
I'm glad you enjoyed the videos and if you have any questions feel free to ask. Thanks for watching
Hi what mdf pait you recommend please
For the undercoat use zinsser top coats Just a good quality timber paint.
Well done
many thanks!
Hi Tom. I have a project with MDF. I am having a trouble. I would be appreciated If you could help me. Thanks
It's not a problem. What trouble are you having with the MDF?
@TomMagicWoodworking I want to cover a MDF piece with vinyl covering using double sided tape. Tape does not stick to mdf well, especially edges. What product I can use for that?
@@TomMagicWoodworking I mean I know I have to seal the surface but do I have to sand it and would varnish work for that?
You could use a carpet spray glue or possibly a contact Adhesive
Yes, Varnish will seal the MDF or a water down pva solution.
I have existing painted doors 1950 4 panel but the hall is so dark I’d like to replace the top wood panel with glass but it’s inserted how do I go about it
Hi The way I would go about that is to Jigsaw out the 2 panels. As cleanly as you can but it will be covered up. Once the panels are out. I would fix a small moulding to 1 side of the door a bit like Architrave Then put the glass in then finally another set of archive on the other side of the door sandwiching the glass between the two. Be aware you need a glass unit, the width of the panel. I hope this helps thanks for watching.
wonderful build and wonderfully built :D
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching
Great video !!!
Im glad you liked it and once again thanks for watching
Hi Tom, hope your well, the first light you demonstrated you said it mains powered as well as battery, if its on mains power does it also charge the batteries. Of the tree lights I would pick the first one although it is on the big side, if your van is a Fiesta leaves no room for you tools. As always a great video, catch you soon Take care
I did hope that the mains light would charge the batteries at the same time but I don't believe it did. So either I missed something or Makita missed a PRIME OPPORTUNITY which is more like the case not thinking ahead a charger would be great idea.
Thanks Tom
No problem glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for the tutorial. Do you only paint the one side?
I would paint one side let it dry then flip it over and do the other side
Wet belt. Beware.
Yes, I have heard about this, but normally, an issue with higher mileage vans, I believe.100k plus
@TomMagicWoodworking eh no much lower. Many transit drivers take them in sub 50k for belt change and even then there are bits of rubber deposits floating in the sump.
worth knowing thanks
Video is very informative however I have been building furniture from 1990 and have dealt with so many repairs as well and I really hope you see where it is unwise to say to your viewers not to use any glue. It is very important to apply some glue and reasons 1 ) the perfect way to joining any two materials is by applying a adhesive substance to hold because wood swells and it also contracts with heat or moisture 2) after moving a piece of furniture a few times in gets weaker and or it will break or open up the joints whenever more weight is applied and I could go on so, love the video just that issue I with it.
Hi, thanks for the comments, and yes, glue would help. No question. But equally, nearly every kitchen cabinet firm in the uk only uses mechanical fixing to hold the cabinets together. thanks for watching
Fantastic video, thank you so much 👏😸
I'm glad you liked thanks for watching
Hi there, great video very handy tips. Can i ask what paint youbused for the bathroom cabinet and did youbuse MRMDF
Hi, I used the same brand of paint for all the cabinets, including the one in the bathroom. Unfortunately, I can not remember the name of the brand it was for my local B&Q DIY store. Basically, just buy a good quality timber paint Most are moisture resistant. I did not use MRMDF As a Rule in bathrooms, I would normally use it, but the cabinet in the bathroom was high on the wall and would have very little contact with moisture if any. Thanks for watching
Great tutorial. Thanks for sharing. One question, though. I'm assuming, having fitted the drawers, runners, and doors, you then took everything apart to paint. In my experience, knocking up the units is the easy part. The sanding, painting, drying time, and repainting is the time-consuming aspect of the project.
Hi yes you are dead right after mocking everything up to make sure it worked. I then stripped it all down to paint which I did not show. I have since made a video showing how the painting is done for anyone interested. Thanks for watching
Hey Tom, thanks for the great video. You mentioned in the comments using 18mm mdf, was that bog std or did you use MR? I’ve built some airing cupboard doors out of MR and they’re pretty heavy but also noticed the quality of mdf varies so much. The Medite stuff I’ve seen isn’t stocked locally to me and some of the available MR is hard on the outside but like Weekabix on the inside 😂
Hi, it was a little while ago now that I built them, but I think it was all standard MDF. Basically, it was what I had in stock in the workshop But yes, the MDF quality does vary a lot. Thanks for watching

brilliant video.. can i ask where you got your corner clamps from thank you

Hi if you still have the Makita saw, could you possible measure the height of the handle from the bench when the saw is in the fully open position please, ( I'm just a small guy) I can't seem to find that measurment anywhere. Thank you.
Hi, yes, I do still have it and use it every day. The measurement from the bench when the saw is fully open is 730 mm or almost 29 inches. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching
@@TomMagicWoodworking Thank you.
Great Build. What thickness do the mdf sheets have? What would you recommend for larger cabinets?
Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The MDF I used in the video was 18mm thick, which should be fine even for larger cabinets. Thanks for watching
I was wondering how did u paint the cabinets in the previous video after they have been assembled, any thoughts on that?
Hi exactly how I demonstrated painting in this video is how I did the cabinets. A brush and a small roller that's it rubbing down between coats
@@TomMagicWoodworking Would it be easier to paint them all before assembling them? Or should we be assembling first please?
Yes you can do a lot of the painting before you assemble the cabinets. The only problem is if you are screwing them together from the outside. You will need to fill and sand down the holes making it look patchy!
@@TomMagicWoodworking Oh I see, I think I will do one of each and see which works best. Thanks for replying! Great video, very helpful.
I made some chevron cutting boards today and realized that the second glue-ups are all end grain to end grain. Just wondering how your boards are holding up after 2 years? Any glue joints failed? Thanks Tom!
Hi all mine are fine main thing is to make sure the faces being glued up are dead flat and square and use titebond would glue. thanks for watching
Hi Tom, A good way to make the cabinet doors with just basic tools to hand. Plenty of good tips and advice always good to know. Your workbench draw fronts and doors look amazing. I'm thinking of re vamping my workbench in a year or two and I like what you have done I will probably go the same way as you in my workshop. As always a great video, catch you soon, take care
As always, I'm glad you liked the video. Good luck with revamping your workshop. What i have done there was a little bit expensive, but I think it was well worth it for the finish. Thanks for watching
Hi Tom great video! What drawer rails did you use in the video? Sincerely, Lasse
Hi the drawer rails I used in the video came from Amazon here is a link to them amzn.to/4eiJCEW thanks for watching
@@TomMagicWoodworking thanks!
Hi, tom, greetings from Texas. You make building those cabinets so easy.
Hello across the pond .I'm glad I can help and thanks for watching
I know what im thinking that vacum is much louder than the mitre saw wow
Very true, the vacuum is loud but very handy I use it all the time
Great video, many thanks.
I am glad you liked it! Thanks for watching 👍
Ive just bought this saw and am returning it. The cuts are wavy, i think due to the 1.6mm thin blade. My 18 year old bnq pro brand mitre saw is much more accurate. But much louder!
Hi, yes, this saw has a few problems. The cheap build is the biggest. As I'm sure you could tell by my review. I was not impressed with it either. Sorry you've got to return your saw but thanks for watching.
HiTom, I am looking to build a few cabinets myself. I am looking to buy a cheap table saw. Can I just switch the sawing blade to make the grooves for the back panel? Should it be 6 mm or which thickness? THanks for your help!
Hi, in the UK, we can only get 1 thickness of blade. To form your groves for the back panel, run your material through once, then move the fence. And run through again, giving you 6 mm width. Hope this helps thanks for watching
just what I needed. thanks
Glad I could help and thank you for watching
Care to indicate the type of coarse screws you used?
Sorry I forgot the brand but they were MDF screws which all have a coarse thread. Thanks for watching
Handrail for staircases is usually around 65mm across and that is the way its placed on the saw to cut the angle cuts. 50mm just isn't deep enough for cutting handrails which rules this saw out for me.
Yes that is a good point and one I forgot to Mention, thanks watching.
I bought a Mikita and it’s seems to jolt everywhere, even when I don’t put a lot of pressure on it. Is it faulty ? Or is this normal!
I have to be honest. I use mine nearly every day, and I have never noticed mine doing it so I would think you have a faulty one. Thanks for watching
Just bought one, mine is very jerky, definitely couldn’t sand with one hand 😢
I have to be honest I have not had a problem with mine maybe don't put as much pressure on only thing i can think to suggest
How did you get to finish it in white or grey?
I painted the cabinets with a good timber paint. I used a brush and a roller
Thanks for you....❤❤❤❤❤✌✌👍👍👍👏👏👏👌👌👌👌👌👌
