As a KC Royals fan, I absolutely support the decision to not send Alex Gordon to score in game 7 of the 2014 world series, which is asked by Hosmer around the 38 minute mark. I mean, Brandon Crawford is one of the best defensive SS. The SF Giants is a great defensive team. While Gordon is a fast-runner, there is no reason for me to believe he can score against that great defense. If Gordon tried to score, he will probably need a security guard with him everytime in Kansas city.

What we have in baseball as it has developed since the 1980s is unique in sports. We have a category of highly paid, very famous and highly celebrated players who NEVER EVER have to come through in a tight situation late in the game when the game is on the line. They're called starting pitchers. Imagine an athlete who is paid tens of millions of dollars and yet never faces a really clutch situation at the end of the game because he is always gone about an hour before then and has already taken a shower and is watching on TV in the locker room. Don't tell me any modern day pitcher can ever compare to pitchers even 30 years ago because when the going gets tough, they're out of the game.
