    Hi Roger, quick question, where did you get that suit from to hook and latch the hair into?

    • @RogerWyatt
      @RogerWyatt ปีที่แล้ว

      I made it. It’s pretty easy. The mesh is from JoAnns. I bought muslin to practice on. Make sure you don’t make the elbow and knee too tight or you won’t be able to bend. However, make the suit pretty close so you aren’t latching a lot of wasted space.

      @@jamessalsman_official7884 It's not weaving, just sewing. Easy to learn. Because the seams are all covered up, it doesn't have to be pretty. I think the material is referred to as "cargo netting" at the fabric store.

    • @RogerWyatt
      @RogerWyatt ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t use a boot because I have a 4” heel. Men’s boots aren’t made for that and would have been super uncomfortable. I made the base wider to improve the stability to reduce the worry. I am going to add a rubber sole on them.

    Great video- It's helping me figure out how to assemble my kit from Jim. The thing I'm super puzzled by are the harness rigging buckles just being cosmetic and velcroed on. They weren't part of an actual strap setup in the on-screen armor?

    • @RogerWyatt
      @RogerWyatt ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words. Here's the thing I learned - it needs to LOOK like what we see on the screen, it doesn't have to FUNCTION like real armor. When I started, I had the idea to make it as realistic as possible. As time went on, I realized the truth. So, if you want to use Jim's kit and straps and buckles, they are cosmetic. You can use car floor mats and cut rubber straps and buy the aviation buckles and then attach them. However, getting in and out of the armor is hard enough, no need making it harder. Use the straps to cover up the actual straps and then use the buckles as the greeblies they really are. You will look 100% screen accurate. I think the only thing I've done differently is buy a pair of the lower buckles and have the screw mounted to the sides.

    • @RogerWyatt
      @RogerWyatt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the delay. The nails are 10 penny. They go all the way through the wood block. I drilled out the holes first so the wood block wouldn’t split. I put a piece of plexiglass on top so the hair wouldn’t snag and another wood block on the bottom to cover up the nails. I think I spaced them around a quarter inch apart.

    Great video Roger! But how would you recommend I strap a set of armor made from 2mm craft foam, cardboard and 3mm foam pvc? I'm debating using elastic straps with Velcro, or nylon webbing with quick-release buckles.

    • @RogerWyatt
      @RogerWyatt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it depends on space. Buckles are easy to put on, but you have to have space to hide them and still access them. The same is true of velcro, but it can compress down more. You probably wouldn’t need to triple lock Velcro on something lightweight. My armor is heavy. Having trooped with it for almost three years, it’s held up well. Only one part is a pain in the ass for me when I put it on.
