New sub! My PS4 is fixed!
OMG thank you! I couldn’t find my problem and when i watched your video, it had the same sound ! So i found the same situation with my disk reader the flex cable was unseated!!!!
Most controllers (A and H) use this terrible design, but the latter has poorer quality membranes
jesus christ your camera is pure garbage
i know im two years late but the link for the conductive film is broken. anyone have a new link or model number that im looking for?
Hi, Very Good video, thx a lot I have a problem and I would like to know if you could help me. My Play 4 pro does not read discs, it seemed that the discs did not rotate, so I disassembled it and I did not see anything strange in it, so I decided to change the disc drive “Kes-496aaa” and now it tries to rotate the disc, but still does not read them, and I do not know what to do, what could it be?
I gave it a try and 1. there is no need for hot air, as soon as you start adding new solder the old connector goes off super easy on its own, 2. ribbon model 259t0 is a 1:1 replacement of the original SA1Q42A looks to be the same as well but I haven't tested it, no need for cutting anything (edit: don't buy it, aliexpresss copy is faulty, it does not work, it's different than the original with the same model number, they have messed up the copy) 3. use a connector with the correct number of pins - they sell both 4. when reassembling, pop out the triggers and put them in last - I wasted 30 min trying to close the case with triggers in place hahaha
Hey could you help me out on how to remove the connector without hot air? i don't have a hot air station
@@CropDudia480p pour lots of flux, get old school sn60pb40 solder and just touch it a bit with that fresh solder it will just flow off on its own easily
There actually exists a second-revision LeapPad Academy with a Rockchip SOC and Android 10 pre-installed. In those revisions the recovery menu is now stripped down to a factory reset prompt asking the user if they want to wipe data off their LeapPad. It also has the data partition permanently encrypted so there's no way a rogue user would be able to get through it without logging in.
This seems...shockingly responsible for LeapFrog? Including an easy to access (and presumably documented) recovery menu for their devices so they don't get chucked? I have to imagine this tracks with them becoming a "software and services" company rather than a "hardware" company. Keep those tablets in-hands.
@@roastymike5438I presume so. I did manage to boot GSIs on the new revision LeapPads which is good news in terms of refurbishing/recycling them as basic internet appliances.
Id of taken one look at that PSU and thrown it away 😂
Well I mean....if you wanna short yourself on the FULL repair experience you can do that 😂😂
I got this for my little one as a gift. I've been trying to get this to work for a while now. I did the steps you gave, and it rebooted it. Now im back the activation code screen.
I took a big risk trying this on my broken H model, knowing there was a high chance of breaking the board... and sure enough I tore up 7 traces haha. Second time ever soldering so definitely a learning experience...
I've done this several times since this video with both iron and hot air and....while I haven't torn any traces yet, hot air is absolutely the way to go. I just wanted to show that it's possible with an iron. Sorry for your loss. :(
Do you know how to get past the activation screen?
it was funny :)
When I connect the ps2 controller to my PC adapter to test it, the computer doesn't recognize the pad. Do you know what could be the problem? It's not the adapter because the PC recognizes it by itself as a generic USB controller. But when the dualshock is attached, it disappears from the device manager. I know the pad works and is receiving power because if I push the "analogue" button, the red LED lights on.
Every single one of H series I came across does not work -_- if they were plain black I'd just dump them to garbage but all the pearl white are H series...
like para que se compre una camara nueva y nosotros los repuestos o un nuevo mando
One thing they overlooked is that the data partition is unencrypted, so a determined creep could just make a dump of the EMMC and pore through whatever it is the previous owner stored in it. It's a double-edged sword in terms of data recovery though, especially if there are priceless memories on the tablet and a parent would like to have those recovered somehow. My friends and I have done a lot of work on these tablets, and unlike Nabi's SE tablet which ran on much the same hardware, this one has kernel sources available so anyone could port a custom OS to this thing. Heck, I even ported TWRP to both the Epic and the Nabi SE in case anyone's interested.
Creepy.....
I actually remember running into your work when I was doing the research for this. You went DEEEEEP into the rabbit hole. Funny thing is that even after the reset I ended up just getting my kid a Galaxy A tablet because this was just too underpowered to be worth my time to fiddle with. Just glad others were able to get some use out of theirs and not just chuck em.
@@roastymike5438lmfao I did more homework on this thing than I ought to do. My ultimate goal was to come up with a way to repurpose them in case a child grows out of it, saving them from the ewaste bin.
what flex part number should i buy to this same case? (the flex is solder to the rigid PCB)
I am trying to follow your step and it’s not working for me when I hold the power button and volume up button
Thank you 🙏
Even I have the same controller which is the "H model" having the problem. The D-pad's up & left button and L1 & L2 does not work while the other buttons are functioning
This is the classic symptom of the flex PCB failure. You did nothing wrong... it just happens. But you do need to replace it now.
I replaced analog but angels going everywhere 😢

❤good work 👏
Great instructions, purchased this second hand and was about to toss it. Thanks!!!!
Great video ur video help unlock the leappad
😂
Man, I wish I listened to you and not try and use the soldering iron to get the pins off... I accidentally pulled all of pins off the board lmao
The absolute worst part of learning repair is the increased damage you do during that learning. Or as @Tronicsfix says, "fixing it until it's broken".
Thank you!
Thank you for making such a brilliant video. Not a single other video on here talks about the drive mechanism or repairing it. Took me hours trying to figure out how the magnetic spindle pulley was supposed to go haha Everyone's always just ,,replace and throw away the old part" but soooo many old parts still work perfectly and just require a but of work. Replacement is not repair!
Thank you for saying this! I don't have a lot of time to do repairs and even less to make videos so I try to make stuff that isn't already well-covered. Glad it helped!
Life saver tysm
Hello. I have a sttrange problem. I have an H-type controller and i need to replace the flex ribbon. But instead of a soldered on connector, it has a 19-pin connector on the circuit board with 2 small tabs on the sides that needs to be pushed upwards in order to remove the flex ribbon. Normally there's a number on the flex ribbon (SA1Q43-A and such), but mine seems like a hybrid between the SA1Q43-A and a R45-0380. On the corner there's written 0285A J. I understand the SA1Q43-A has 18 pins, so that one's not compatible. The controller itself is as good as new. In fact, i can't remember ever using it. I can't find the correct replacement. Does anyone know more about this or have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
The 18pin ribbon works fine. The left pin isnt used so you need to put the 18pin ribbon on the right side of the 19pin connector. Works fine
@@sergedna Awesome! I'm going to order one. If it works, i get to experience using a brand new controller for the second time, lol! Thanks man!
How did this go down? That controller really sounds like it's a really good after-market copy.
capo capo
Omg thank you for your video. I was having trouble resetting my leap frog epic, and I came across your video. You are a life saver
I ask about the value of the capacitor?
Ty
Thank you for this video, i wasn't having luck resetting a leap pad academy until i came across your video!!!!!!!!!!! 👍
Thank you so much
This also works on a Leappad Academy if you forget the password thank you sooo much!!!!
Tried this on leappad platinum and can't seem to get the reboot come up. It just flashes up the leapfrog logo and goes blank again.
Has leapsearch removed content? After a factory reset we are now missing all the Pixar videos that used to show up. Not actual movies but clips
Thank you
Thank you it works on leappad academy 😊
Pressure sensitive buttons. I think that is what you meant.
Also I'm confused - these aren't crimped they're push-in, no?
Sorry for the very late reply - the original OEM connector/flex is permanently crimped. The replacement is push-in.
@@roastymike5438 no they are not. I have two genuine controllers that i got with my ps2 that has push in ribbon cable connectors (zif connectors).
What's more fun is all the ribbon cables I've seen on every video looks different lol There's no reason that I can see that they couldn't use a PCB. The pads and the button rubber are both carbon-impregnated. The rubbers are conical so when you push harder, the cone flattens out and increases conductivity which is translated as pressure. Just watch some of the cheaper ones - if there's a break in any of the pressure sensitive pads, it's an on/off switch and won't work right.
Typical corporate cost cutting, I'd imagine. Cheaper to have a flex as opposed to a PCB? Ultimately I think it's the breakdown of the carbon that kills the functionality and I 'm not sure PCB vs. Flex would have prevented that.
good video thanks! Just wondering why my model H controller has a 19pin connector, and i can only find 18 pin flex pcb's
you only need 18pin the first pin on the left is not necessary
Does anyone know how to do this for the older version the Leappad Ultimate, my son is autistic and this is his favorite thing ever I purchased 2 used on eBay and the seller doesn’t have the passcode nor was it factory reset.
About the same I'd imagine
Is my tablet just wierd or why did it only do screenshots
If it did a screenshot then the tablet is already powered on. You need to do this from a powered off state.
Thank you so much!!! I just brought one second hand and was having a hard time. Thank you!!!
Happy to help! Buying second hand saves money and saves resources!
