No the gov should say if you want to build a park in the uk you need to pay tax. Us corporrations need to learn if they want business in the second largest English speaking territory they need to pah their way.

Definitely visit Paultons. It is really well run, and such a unique, family run park.

Thorpe park probably have some of the best operations now! Better than towers at least. And hyperia is probably the best coaster layout wise (outside ride to happiness of course) but it’s more stylised than themed. Kinda like icon in a way.

I could imagine Labour offering to make sure the theatre tax rebates applies to Universal shows for example as well. I think the next big event for this might be in the autumn budget, Reeves does need to squeeze in some good news in there. An announcement the government will set aside a few quid for investment in local infrastructure could well happen.

You may find the July decision was based on some initial promises from the then government, and the change, may have necessitated a renegotiation. The whole 'if you don't give us what we want' scenario is classic big business negotiation, as someone who has done training on this for a large company I can tell you it's part of the playbook 😀 I wouldn't be too concerned, all the other positives outway that one so it's still watch this space but I wouldn't get hung up on that

Whilst I want the park, it shouldn't be at any cost. USA is already taken over the UK, all cashless transactions go through USA, Morrisons is USA, 5 Premier football clubs are USA, F1 is USA, Cadbury is USA, Deepmind AI is now USA. Might as well bring the flag here and celebrate July 5th "Taken over by USA day". If the incentives need to be better than the other countries that have a park i'd fight back. I think its pretty obvious the UK has a higher taxation than most countries.

Yeah, I’m not worried about that at all. Incentives are just a normal part of huge outside investment like this. They’ll get something out of the Government for sure. It’d be a huge PR/economic boost for Labour.

Bedfordshire council said that Wixams station is due to start construction next month and, if Universal agreed to the park, they’d basically have to, to a point, restart the station so basically, they’ve gotta make it clear that the park is happening by December or else the council will have wasted money

I know an archaeological trench evaluation has already taken place on the site. This is usually a condition of a planning application, I haven't found out who has done it yet or what the results were, but I'll keep asking around!

I have a question . Is this project has things to do with some taxes and the inflation in the UK ??? but I think there will go with a yes because we have informations about it with gouvernemental document of some kind that as been signed and also post on the internet

Best way to view this is that until things are signed and budgeted, it isn’t happening. That way if it does go ahead, it’s a bonus.

You missed a couple of bits (explained in my end of July update). 1- previous government did NOT approve the request of financial support. 2 - MERLIN already said whatever is offered to universal, they want the same 😊

With the state of the country at the moment... this government and the way the future looks... I wouldn't blame Universal for pulling the plug.

I really hope this project goes ahead, it'd be brilliant to have a world class park in the UK - imagine the theming!

This was inevitable, universal will be expecting gov to fund all travel infrastructure upgrades at a minimum. I just hope the government doesnt tie itself in a knot. Tax increases expected in October so the government might be a bit nervous politically about allocating large sums to support a US company to build a theme park. The business case and projected revenues for government should make it a no brainer. Bear in mind the government will be receiving up to 20% of all revenue plus all the other local and national taxes that will be due, not to mention the employees paying tax. Unfortunately this country (alongside other democracies) lacks long term vision or strategy for anything beyond the 5 year election cycle

Definitely sounds like to me they’ve made the internal decision to go ahead and now it’s the game of posturing to get an even better deal, as any business would. If the base internal decision was a no, they surely wouldn’t bother negotiating anything with the government

There was an article in the Financial Times back in June where they interviewed Page Thompson and he said then that a decision to go ahead would be made by the end of the year, so that hasn’t changed. I think people were being optimistic that an announcement would be made after the consultation with residents. This all seems like normal procedure for a company thinking of investing millions into a theme park. And Labour won’t want to lose this opportunity for the UK, they know the huge benefits of the theme park going ahead. I don’t think we should worry too much.

I will give it to the end of the year and if nothing is confirmed this project will go ahead and i would say that's it.

When the French government were negotiating with Disney I believe there were some tense negotiations before DLP got the go ahead. It’s a little pressure tactics to get the government to offer decent incentives. And they know they are going to have to offer something for it to get built. For example foot the infrastructure bill or most of it.
