Parson's Ghost @parsonsghost5112
We've been really busy, and HOT! A friend was having some issues with her 2013 VW Tiguan, and taking it to a dealer for repairs just wouldn't make sense. Why was it losing coolant faster than a sieve, and snapping and cracking so loudly while driving that it could be heard inside the house? Well, it turned out to have a broken PLASTIC factory water pump, and a worn-out CV axle.
In the midst, while waiting for parts, #toptech and I went camping with the Ford Maverick as tow rig! Plus, the Jeep Patriot found a new owner, a great guy who works for the @edmontonstingers1505, so stay tuned for more on that!
Thanks for watching, cheers!

I've been in that position before, taking things apart in the wrong direction. That pump comes out after removing the intake. Some can slip the old cog belt back onto the pump, not me. Yes, Ford engineered the console lid to fail prematurely at the latch by molding in inadequate plastic retainers for the screws that sandwich the inner liner to the outer console lid. Realizing their mistake, they compensated by creating a convenient catch tray immediately below the work area in the rear of the console compartment to safely place the 9 small parts that will be removed to make this repair. Good old Ford: Always looking out for the customer and the service technician. NOT! I'll check the local U-pull lot, but I expect that I will end up engineering my own improved latch from velcro, magnets or some sort of stretch cord and hook...

Ha! I lie like a cheap rug! All modern vehicles are crap to work on. I mean come on.. Who puts a starter under the intake manifold? Some North American and Euro cars have that engineering “feature”. Freinds don't let freinds buy a modern VW...plastic waterpump!... Friends advise friends they cut their loses and sell or trade in for something better... Anytime a driveaxle boot is cut and allows water to get in for a length of time its just better to replace with new or reman... noise or not...best way to check the shafts is to drive it and check for noise in turns...just spinning it back and forth can lead to false replacement as they all make some noise or have play once driven.... And adding to all the fines VW has had to pay in the past years they are a far cry from a quality car company... And an endless money pit as they age... Good luck with the repair.

When you buy a larger spool of twine, don’t just hang/place it on a shelf in a hot garage, keep it cool in your basement or place it in a bucket of water and retrieve it every time you need twine! While I agree water is not the best solution to this issue, the twine being plastic will now have a liquid barrier that will slow the decay down from the heat and the air that will dry up any oils that are in the plastic.

You could absolutely be correct about the throttle body, it's a really really REALLY (lol) common fault and would definitely induce limp mode. If it's a CVT issue, you'd probably know right away, they tend to fail in a pretty loud spectacular way. Sounds like it might be worth checking out! Should city bus fleets, and fleets in general, shift their budgets away from replacement and towards repair and maintenance? Like I hear UPS does or once did? and if so, what percentage of a fleet maintenance, repair and replacement budget should go to the first 2? They might want to know in Grafton NH. I think most government fleets err on the side of replacement, aggravated by the onset of green tech like electrics and hybrids, outside of the smoggiest cities, but fleet replacement does make it easy for me to get a surplus moving bus with which to move near Antelope Oregon. But I'm thinking there might be an ideal budget ratio.

Not sure, that's over my pay grade LOL. We do operate the average oldest transit bus fleet in North America here, including Mexico. We still have '02s chugging around, but the goal is a max of 10 years at which point the returns diminish.

@@ShopKatIndustries I can see variations for single buses, where one might blow a major part and not be worth fixing, but for whole fleet averages, I would set a repair and maintenance budget and a replacement budget and therefore a ratio between them and stick to that ratio, and I believe most fleets are too heavy on replacement, though it might not be true of yours.

    • @ShopKatIndustries
      @ShopKatIndustries 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

So is there any such thing as a halfway practical Rolls Royce carpooler? I'm very interested in radical small towns like Antelope Oregon, Colorado City AZ, Ferndale MI, Maywood CA, and especially Grafton NH. Though I think Rolls Royce was not helpful to Antelope.

The kid sounds must be on the video because I don't think my housemate's grandson has arrived yet.

Might you want to test the resistance on the old element before getting the new one?

I thought about it, but couldn't find the spec.

@@ShopKatIndustries You could ballpark it using the amperage draw label for the whole dishwasher and ohm's law, but my guess is that a burnt one would read infinity. The label might be a bit high in case the element was supposed to be on at the same time as something else, so 90% of the draw label should work as an ideal.

Ebay sends things like bowl gaskets and primer buttons direct from China for a song, but it takes a month or so. The packages say air freight, but I guess customs takes the time, as much as the faster ships.

I hear the older John Deere tractors are worth more than newer ones because the newer ones are hard to fix the electronics.

Once you've gone to the trouble of taking out the carb, which I usually try to avoid as I've said, it's usually worth cleaning out more than the main jet as there is usually an emulsion tube under it and often an idle jet, which effects full speed mixture if clogged. Once the carb and the little wires are all out and ready, it's usually worth cleaning all 3. I'm not sure I would have used a parts washer, depending on time, but I would have done a bit more cleaning.

With that many parts missing, it looks to me like you will have to start collecting mower junk, and therefore figuring out where to store mower junk.

I would value that aluminum deck, especially for the light weight but also for the rust resistance as I mow lawns with lots of obstacles where light weight helps me maneuver more than self propelled would. Out on the farm I use magnesium deck 2 stroke Lawn Boys and have a classic, 2 horse Buttercup Lawn Boy, but would love an aluminum deck mower in the city where the 2 stroke is loud and smokey. When free parts become available I might try to swap that 5hp out for a 3.5 to save even more weight even at the expense of power, but I hear Briggs is lighter than Tecumseh. But I would consider that light deck worth time or money to try to fit a handle unless aluminum decks are a dime a dozen up there when they aren't around here. I wonder If it would be worthwhile for me to try to bolt a 3.5 Briggs to one of my green Lawn Boy 4, 2 stroke decks for use in the city? Ever try cutting out part of the front skirt on a push mower for use against brush? though I wouldn't waste an aluminum deck on that. Also these filterless and somewhat expendable push mowers are good places to test graphite in oil, in far less quantity than Project Farm.

Nice show. I used 8th inch angle iron in my grill. Works great. Don’t know the metric Conv. If our grass gets that long we get snakes That will make those new blades dull. 😂😂😂🥓🍰

1/8th inch is about 3mm! We had snakes on the acreage, just garter snakes. I tried not to mow them but once in a while they would stick their head up...

Someone got their monies worth out of those blades. It looked like you got the mower going just in time. You could lose a small child in the grass in the backyard.
