    Dear MTT, cool system! Just wondering about the, let’s say, ‘necessary gap’ to avoid the train overlap? Otherwise said, like you showed when the caboose on the straight route is standing in front of the sensor, the sensor of the diverging route doesn’t flip the switch. Would it be necessary to indeed have an insulated block in front of the sensor to prevent such interaction between the two routes. Further, this kind of sensoring really looks promising, especially to integrate blocks and routes as a true model of automatic train control. Cheerio

      There are three methods to trip our Dwarf Controllers: Coil detectors if you already have coil switches installed, mechanical (like tortoise types) and DCC. In these case you would know which way the turnout is turned. Sensors wont give you that info.

    Great video, Jim, and delighted to see the upgrades to the N-scale LED board products. A couple of questions: first, for the dual row board, is there a CV setting that selectively turns off one row - as for the “bedroom side” of a 4-4-6 sleeper - while leaving the other row on to light the passageway? Second, some Kato observation cars (20th Century Limited, California Zephyr, Olympian Hiawatha, for example) have some built-in lighting structures at the back that prevent installation of either the 144mm or 124mm products (too long, won’t fit). Is the 106mm product intended to be used in those types of cars, or should the even shorter N-scale caboose board be used? Looking forward to trying these out soon.

    • @ModelTrainTechnology
      @ModelTrainTechnology 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We'll put the separate control for right and left side on the wish list. In the installation videos you might see that I remove all that extra "framework" that Kato installs and yes, we use a shorter board but the N-124 will fit - and we put a separate LED in the back observation area - powered by the Mains on the N-124 board.

    Crossing gate coming down far too late. That gate should be in the fully down position before the train ever gets to the crossing. Are there additional sensors that can be placed further back to trip the crossing signal in advance to have the gate go completely down before the train gets there? As well as an additional sensor after the crossing that will work in conjunction with the sensor built into the crossing signal to hold the signal on a little further after the train has fully cleared the crossing? Just isn't working to an actual prototypical crossing signal from my viewpoint.

    • @ModelTrainTechnology
      @ModelTrainTechnology 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Of Course! We could not place the sensor any further away in either direction due to track and other obstacles in the way. We were a guest at another layout - as stated in the comments section. This was a temporary setup so that was all we could do. The point was to show the moving gate - you could place sensor 500' away if you wanted.

    • @HolidayDecorator
      @HolidayDecorator 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ModelTrainTechnology Thank you. Glad to hear that. I've looked at your site but sometimes I'm not sure about the sensor setup. So before I would invest in signals for my indoor layout, which I hope to be starting on sometime after Christmas, I just want to be certain what I'm planning for signals for my layout will function as I would expect, and not end up with something that wasn't as reliable or expandadable like the crossing signals/gates I bought many years ago. Those were a pain to get working the way I wanted, and even then, the sensors were magnetic reed switches that many times proved to be unreliable. I like what I see of your signals, just wanted to be sure I could set them up with additional sensors, as your sensor system seems to be far more reliable than those old magnetic reed switches I used. Thank you again for the quick reply on this.

I have been contemplating how to light a full roundhouse with pit and overhead lights and I was going to have to use about 48 switches for the pit lights and another 48 switches for the overhead lights plus switches for any outdoor lighting on top of 48 switches for track power on each roundhouse track. This product could handle everything but the track power switches and simplify all of that wiring and I would be able to control the brightness of each section too without another whole dimming switch for each section. So each board is addressable and each board controls 16 separate lights? Is this Digitrax compatible so each board can be accessed from the throttle?

    So this could be used for a double track situation and it will only detect the far track as long as there isn’t a train stopped in front of the sensor on the close track? Then a separate sensor could detect the close track and not the farther track? Would I be better off putting a sensor on each side of the double track if I can fit it?

      For double track you would want a detector on both sides of the track for the reasons of physics - the sensor can't see through the car. However, because these are precision detectors you can easily isolate each track.

    I model in N Scale and have 2 questions First, is the detection system infrared or based on a light source. Secondly, can I use the same signal box circuit to control 2 led signals, one on each end of the track block.

      "Infrared" is a wavelength of light. "Infrared" detectors commonly used in Model Railroading are almost 99% reflective - that is they measure the amount of light bounced back (or interrupted)by an object. This type is very susceptible to changed in ambient light, and thus, are problematic. Our detectors do use invisible light but they measure distance, not reflective light and thus can be used outside, inside, in a completely darkened tunnel and they still work flawlessly. Yes, our Signal Controllers can power multiple Block signals simultaneously.
